A major dasappointment, and expensive, too. Waited 20-minutes for our reserved table. It's ready. No, not yet. OK,now?. Wait, maybe. Front desk staff poorly trained. Waiter brought water. Then disappeared. Finally took our drink orders and eventually got around to food. Steaks are always superb but the side dishes are ridiculously priced...and the table too small for four people with anything beyond a main course. We were prepared for a high cost meal...not our first time...but likely, our last. Bob's Chop House is superior by a wide margin. Then, to top off the evening and add insult to injury, valet parking charges $8.00 . With a $400+ meal, you might think they would validate? This was not a corporate outing. It was my wife's 70th birthday and we could afford the meal, thank god. But for that price, one would expect superior food and service across the board. It missed!!!
Ok the meat is amazing but the place is way too busy, weird location (in a middle of clinics and health providers). Dinnerware is industrial and not very good at embellishing the experience.
So if you're a carnivore that doesn't mind a pseudo-fancy ambiance then go for it but you need deep pockets because it's not cheap.
Won't repeat unless I know I am not paying.
We decided to forgo doing Thanksgiving dinner at home this year and chose to have it out. It was a nice experience with my children and I would consider doing it again though I wonder if it was the best idea to go on a holiday where I wasn't the only family with the same idea. I think Ruth's Chris on another night would be a better experience than the chaos holidays generally produce. Overall though, a good experience.
This was our first time to visit the Del Mar location. Lovely place. Beautiful view. Unfortunately, food was not up to the usual level of expertise and service was horrible. We ordered the crab stack which was way too spicy. Both of us had steak and lobster. Great price but the steak was not as tasty as some other locations. Lobster was jus okay. The potatoes were very dry and tasteless. Had a difficult time getting a glass of wine and when we finally did, we were almost done with our meals. Maybe just a bad night?
Ruth Chris in Del Mar lacks atmosphere, esp. if you are seated upstairs. Known for it's steak, our rib-eye was sitting in butter. The chef really overdid it. The lobster bisque was thin and lacked any substantial pieces of lobster. The apps were good, spicy shrimp and crab stuffed mushrooms, however, the scalloped potatoes and the Brussel sprouts were dry and tasteless. Very disappointing dinner all in all. At the end of the day , this is a chain restaurant, but for the price, there are ten restaurants in San Diego I would prefer.
Service was excellent. Food was good, albeit more expensive for the same quality that you can find elsewhere. But the noise level was unacceptable. The noise was not generated by any music, rather it all came from people trying to talk over the din. Upon leaving the restaurant I felt hoarse and exhausted rather than relaxed and satisfied.
I come here 5 or 6 times a year. I can usually be guaranteed a fine consistently prepared meal. The tuna appetitizer was excellent as always and I enjoyed my crunchy wedge salad. This time, my filet was disappointing in that it still has a tendon running through it, which I had to work around. I ordered it medium rare and it was cold in the center. I don't like to complain so I decided just to take it home so I could dissect it later and warm it up a bit. The garlic mashed potatoes and creamed spinach were also spot on. There was a generous serving of shoestring potatoes. I wish they were not quite so toothpick thin, because the taste of oil was more dominant that the potato. My expectation was #2 pencil thin, which I believe would be more french fry like. I tried the berries and cream and was disappointed. There could not have been more than 8 to 10 quartered slices of strawberries swimming in cream. It was a pitiful end to the meal.
A waste of money! Had reservations for an anniversity dinner and still had to wait 45 min. Manager apologized for the wait an said he would do something "special" for us. He then disappeared and we never saw him again!
Our server Michael was very nice but the evening continued to go downhill. My $50 Petit Rib Eye steak was very tough and chewy. For this problem our two vegetable sides were removed from the check but of course we still paid for the steak I could not eat!
Since I had booked this evening as celebrating our 43 rd anniversity I was anticipating some small complimentary desert and mention of our special day. Nothing was said or done. We left disappointed and disgusted .
There are much better restaurants in the area where they provide excellent food and service.
The bar is pleasant and Chris the bartender was very personable and attentive. The only
good part of the evening!
Asked for my steak medium. When the steak got there it was purple in the middle. I ended up getting sick and was in bed the entire next day. Place is good, ambience is good. But for the price you pay, they should cook the steak the way you want.
I get it, I could have asked them to cook it in for longer, the alone makes me rate them low. Their doneness should be spot on for the lords you are paying.
Fantastic experience! The food is already great but the staff made the entire experience that much better. We were celebrating my son's birthday and they made him feel turning 11 was such a special event. He has numerous food allergies and aside from giving him assurance on food safety, they decorated or table with Birthday confetti! Our server, Rebecca was phenomenal. We even had the opportunity to see the kitchen and meet the pastry chef (Diego)that made his special dessert. Tomahawk was delicious!!
We will definitely be back!
Came for birthday and restaurant week, food and service were great for the most part. Only hiccup was the appetizers took a long time to come out and the kitchen accidentally almost sent out entrees first but it was fixed. Plus our server gave us a dessert off the normal menu for the birthday too!
I came here to celebrate my birthday. The food and service were great. I ordered the ribeye and each piece just melted in my mouth. It was the best I had ever had. I made the reservation through an email link sent by Ruth's Chris which stated that I would receive a "reservation reward." However, when the waiter brought the bill, the reward was not applied. So, while I had a wonderful dining experience overall, I felt that it was false advertising on Ruth Chris' part to send an email promising a reward when there was none.
Steak was excellent. Sea Bass very good-not great like it usually is. Seated in back of restaurant. I do not like the seating choices-how this dining area is laid out. Way in the back
Waiter was great.
Sides and salad were great
Coming back during breeders cup-made reservation months ago-we'll see what table they offer.
