Ruth's Chris Steak House - Del Mar Ratings and Reviews
Everything was fabulous, as usual!!!
We prefer to be seated in a certain section of the dining room and they save that info in their guest history so we don't even have to ask.
My family is always quite pleased with the extremely high quality with the food and service.
We highly recommend this dining experience!
All was well until the busboy spilled an entire glass of water on me. It also got into my purse, which was next to my chair. He gave me a couple of cloth napkins, but they are not absorbent. I began taking things out of my purse to dry them and spill out about 4 oz if water sitting in it. The manager came over to inquire if my iPhone still worked (it did). He sent two unordered deserts to the table — cheesecake with ice cream (weird). My ice cream came with a hair garnish. The manager then came over to see if we were satisfied (my silk blouse and pants were soaked and I wanted to leave) with the free deserts. I replied that my ice cream had a 2” brown hair and that had we wanted desert, it would have been chocolate. A piece of espresso-chocolate cake arrived. My husband, who hates coffee, took a bite and was grossed out. Manager again. This time, the unwanted desert was lava cake - again only one serving with one fork. And the manager came back. When I told him that we just wanted the check, he looked at me as though I was an ingrate, and haughtily informed me that he had comped our sides. So ... my clothes had to go to the dry cleaner, my wallet is ruined, I left without half of my steak which was boxed up on the now wet table, covered with 5 unordered and unwanted deserts, and this guy is acting like he saves our Valentines Day dinner by comping us $22 of food. Not hardly. And no apology from anybody except the busboy.
We were pretty pleased with our experience this time, however were disappointed at their unwillingness to allow us to PAY MORE to upgrade our steak in a combo they had. Our meal had an 11oz filet, so judging by the price of the individual filet vs a more expensive cut of meat, we should have just been able to pay the difference and get the cut we wanted. Seems a logical move to keep your LONG time customers happy - but they fell short this time.
The upstairs dining room felt crowded and unappealing. The waiter took my wife's dinner order and forgot to take mine. He just turned around and left. Later when serving our meal he upended the lamp on the table. Luckily it was battery operated and not a real candle. At the end he brought the bill and a ballpoint pen that was out of ink.
The food was good. However, we both had the petite filet and my wife's was not tender (felt fibrous). Everything else was up to the standards (for food) that we expect from this Ruth's Chris. Nevertheless, prices have escalated and it's becoming not a good value for the money.
Great evening for my mom’s 80th birthday. We at upstairs and it was a very nice setting with excellent service and food. Our waiter was also very helpful in suggesting some activities for us while we were in town. We took his advice and had a fantastic day!
The restaurant has become dilapidated and unkempt. Bathroom was disturbing to go into, wood on mirrors peeling off, dirty paper towels everywhere, a buzzing noise from the electrical that resonated motels in he slums...I felt like I needed to wash my hands again after I left the bathroom.
Our server was irritated by us because my wife was pregnant and not ordering alcohol, and due to her reduced appetite we shared some appetizers and salad and he gave us a disdaining look.
Steak was good as it would be expected when bathed in butter.
Place needs to close, remodel or get new management. Won’t go back.
Food was great. No complaint.
8 oz fillet mignon was beautifully done. Acorn squash soup was tasty.
Service was not great. It took 20 mins to order drinks, took another 20 mins to take our orders.
I noticed people next table arrive after us and left before us.
It was pretty crowded for the restaurant week.
I will not go back there for a long time.
Went to Ruth's Chris for restaurant week. It was busy, as the date was also during the Torrey Pines open. We had difficulty getting seated, we arrived 15 mins before our reservation, but were sat 20 min after our reservation. Seems a couple of tables were sat before us, one even by the waiter himself. Guess he liked his regular customer. Once we were sat, the evening went flawlessly. Service was exceptional, food was perfect to order. The restaurant week menu is a great value for enjoying Ruth's Chris. We look foward to this event twice a year and typically enjoy going to Ruth's Chris.
Excellent service from Shane and his sidekicks!
Our party had a great time!
Bread was warm and delicious.
Great venue, beautiful dining room, menu selection was vast.
Medium well 6oz filet had some burnt spots it most of it was tasty.
Mash was good, maybe a touch too much butter.
Mushroom crabcake was on the salty side.
Cheesecake and vanilla ice cream was a great pairing.
Run, don't walk for dinenr here for restaurant week - it was wonderful and a great value for $50. Frankly we'd be disappointed the last few times we'd been there and were pleasantly surprised. I choose the crab stuffed mushroom appetizer and could only eat two of them - delicious. Nice choice of two filets, salmon and chicken. My filet was the best I've had in ages.
The food and service was incredible! We always share our meals and the staff was so very gracious at splitting everything for us. The au gratin potatoes are always a favorite. And the bread pudding dessert was amazing. Of course the steak is always the best. Thanks for another great dining experience.
We've been regulars 21 years, mostly special occasions. We loved it and have raved about it, with great reviews. Service began slipping 2 years ago. It became slower and they forgot to provide the complimentary dessert and we had to ask them, which is embarrassing, since they ask in advance if it is a special occasion. Since food and service had been excellent, we came back. We wanted to give it a third chance. Our server, though friendly, was very slow, sinking to the point of ignoring us. We had to refill our champagne glasses several times. He initially charged us for the dessert, the size of which shrank to tiny. The bill stated "birthday dessert" with charge. Call this minor, but it was outrageous in our view, as we have been loyal patrons and have given them at least 5 thousand dollars over years. The portion size and quality also declined. The filets were same weight as listed; everything else was smaller. Chop salad was reduced to half size. For $ 17, there should be more than 3 bites. Vegetables were wilted/practically no dressing. Sides good but smaller. Salt level was ridiculous, but we did not want to wait another 30 minutes for a redo, so we put up with it. Prices are up about 20%. We would have been happy to pay for good food and service. We paid because we had to.
We were upset and spoke w/ the manager. I used a bad word, and apologized. Manager seemed nonplussed that we had a bad experience, after we described it. We mentioned one good thing: the bus woman was outstanding and should be promoted. She was far more attentive than our waiter. There were no attempt to comp any part of the meal. The manager could see how upset we were(wife crying). This is resting on laurels. I'm sure they still have a good reputation. Many rich executives on expense accts were there. Perhaps a big corporation took over (often results in decline). It is unlikely we will return as we do not want to risk having another bad experience spoil a special occasion.
