Ruth's Chris Steak House - DC - Convention Center Ratings and Reviews
I have never been to a Ruth Chris restaurant that had as bad of service as my colleague and I experienced. It was so bad that I sent a message to my friend that works at a Flemings to share with him my awful experience. We arrived about 10 minutes early and instead of waiting, we opted to sit at a table in the bar. The bar has zero ambiance. The tables and chairs reminded me of perhaps a banquet set up at a hotel. After about 10 minutes, someone finally greeted us and asked us if we'd like drinks. I ordered wine and my colleague had a Hendricks on the rocks. Despite the fact that we were sitting right next to the bar, drinks seemed to take forever. So, we ordered a seafood tower. The tower arrived and there were no plates to put any of the shells on. So, we threw the shells on the table. No one seemed to care. Our dinners arrived on tiny plates. I ordered 2 lobster tails and my colleague had the sea bass. There was no lemon or anything that came with the meals. The sides that we ordered were mediocre. Au Gratin Potatoes and Brussel Sprouts. They were not hot. We ordered more drinks from someone else because our waitress never came back to the table. Then, we had four friends arrive to join us and they wanted drinks. They went up to the bar to get drinks because no one came to our table. My colleague and I ordered another drink from someone else again and had to go to the bar to get it. Then, when we were ready to go, we had to go to the bar to ask for our check. We never saw our waitress again. The service was bad. The food wasn't worth the money. The entire experience in this particular Ruth Chris completely sucked. I dine out all of the time and this was by far some of the worst service I have ever received. I did leave a tip, out of courtesy only, but it totally was not worth it. I'd never dine here ever again. I am sorry that we chose this Ruth Chris. We should have gone to Del Friscos.
My Mom & I go there frequently & the entire experience is always enjoyable & I usually rate 5 stars for everything. I love the lamb- it's ALWAYS perfect and my mom usually gets the Sea bass -which she thought was absolutely delicious. The seating hostess and the bread guy was super pleasant. However our table hostess this time - unlike EVERY OTHER time was less than desirable. Not egregious but not great and border line rude. She was efficient but we felt she didn't go out of her way to be pleasant or helpful. We found her very short and course -she smiled but that was overshadowed by the sternness in her voice and the impatient manner in which she would always suggest after literally 5 seconds that maybe she should come back "when we've decided" and we felt rushed. My mom (a nondrinker) was having difficulty deciding her beverage...after literally about 6 seconds the hostess suggested that she'd come back. Then When I was deciding on my wine choice I couldn't remember what I ordered the last time I was there and I knew the one I was asking for I hadn't had before -so after 2 to 3 seconds - again she suggested she'd come back. This time I said no & I asked to try it first - I didn't like it and tried another, thankfully I liked the next one because she didn't bring out a tester serving but a full glass. And it went on like this for the rest of the dinner. My mom felt the tension so much that she wouldn't even ask for anything else so as to not infringe on this hostesses time. Which is how we both felt. So now I'm slightly annoyed because my Mother is feeling uncomfortable so I have no problem asking for what we need and do so. I almost could understand if the restaurant was extremely crowded but it was not and she didn't seem to have a problem spending SEVERAL minutes at a time with the table adjacent to us. 1st time but not happy at all about this experience & when I come again if I'm seated in her section I will ask for another hostess.
As always, the food was good... especially the steaks. Wrong veggie was brought to the table. By the time the correct replacement arrived we were almost done with our steaks. No apology or offer to comp.
Wine list is good. Roth cab complemented our steaks nicely after it was opened and breathed a bit.
Service got a little slow as other diners arrived. It was obvious ( we had on hockey shirts) that we were going to a 7:00pm hockey game. Waitress should know that hockey shirts mean attending game and the time it starts. The valet knows the times! We missed the first period.
The best thing about this Ruths is the proximity to Verizon Center. Food next. Then the valet ( he's awesome). Service is always a little weak.
This restaurant is very nice. Our waitress, an oriental lady, would not shut up about the appetizers and bite size food for appetizers. Even after we told her 3 times we did not want that. Then when we ordered, a ribeye, she argued about how we wanted it cooked!! She was very rude. The only service she was nice about was refilling our water and a soft drink. After that she turned it over to someone else. As SOON as we finished she had the goy come and clean out table off, asked if we wanted dessert. We said no and she pulled our bill out and rudely dropped it on the table. For a dinner that was at $100 her behavior was totally unacceptable.
This visit was the worse experience I've ever encountered at a premiere restaurant. Our server was not very attentive to my wife and I and almost nonexistent (slow). She also unilaterally decided to upgrade my ribeye steak order to the most expensive steak on the menu, the Tomahawk ($100+) and at my expense; which I wasn't disclosed until the bill arrived. Sadly, the steak and our side orders were all over cooked. To add insult to this injury, we were seated next to a large party who were very loud and often complained about the server's slow delivery of their bread and appetizers.
The food was great as always. Steak was cooked to perfection! The restaurant is in major need of a facelift though! For the price
It should be an "upscale" experience. The cushions on the bar stools were torn and the restaurant just looked outdated. Time for this Ruth's Chris to spruce things up a bit!!
The food outstanding. The $35.17 special was perfect for a D.C. date night. I had the crab stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer (was not included in the special), those were not that great not enough seasoning and little crab. There were only 4 large mushrooms, I'd consider them a small plate not quite an appetizer. I personally would not get them again. The staff was friendly and considerate all around, however we rarely saw our server and had no clue who he was. The ambiance of this restaurant was not something I expected for a D.C. steak house.. I wouldn't recommend this steak house outside of restaurant week.
I asked for a medium well steak, it came back medium. I asked for it to be cooked alittle more, it came back crispy. The manger said he would go get me another one. 10-15 mins went passed he still is not back. I asked the waitress to see what was going on, she came back and went to the table beside us. She didn't gave me any update. Finally the manger is back with a steak that's bleeding as soon as I cut it. I just told him I didn't want it. The waitress finally comes back with the check.. We were so disappointed we left without our dessert we asked for, the waitress then ran out the door to give us the dessert! I was not pleased with dinner!
I would not recommend this particular Ruth Chris location (Metro Center - 9th Street, N.W., Washington, D.C.) to anyone. The food was not served per our request, the red wine was COLD - 55 degrees as admitted by the Manager, and the service itself was not adequate.
They need a sommelier to teach the staff about wines and most certainly a better Chef!!
Service was very slow...we tried to order drinks at the bar...weren't even noticed. Our waitress Natasha (?) was rarely seen until the end. We had to order drinks from another waiter. We were told both the bar and kitchen were backed up. Will not go to this location again...
This restaurant was convenient to the venue we were attending, but that is about all I can say. The chairs felt like we were going to fall through them. The food was average and considerably over-priced. The lights were dimmed to hide the dirty floors and stained utensils. And the timing of salads, apps, and entrees was very rushed.
