Ruth's Chris Steak House - Columbia Ratings and Reviews
The truth of Ruth’s Chris is you’re paying for the experience. The staff is attentive and respectful, as well as incredibly diligent in making sure your evening goes well. The food is very good, but there are many other restaurants that provide similarly high quality and good tasting food for a fraction of the cost. Referring back to my prior statement, Ruth’s Chris isn’t the best value out there but overall is a very good choice to take that special someone in your life on occasion.
I had the worst experience ever at a Ruth's Chris restaurant this week. My college aged daughters and I have celebrated Valentine's Day with a lunch or dinner since they were in the 7th and 8th grades respectively. This time we chose Ruth's Chris because they have awesome lunch options. When we got there we were informed that they were not offering the normal lunch because of the Valentines Day holiday. So at 11:15 am our choices were only from the dinner menu. (i.e. Steaks, chicken, fish, etc--NO SANDWICHES) Rather than accommodating us, the manager suggested that we get up from our seat in the dining room and sit in the bar area and order from the "bar bites" menu. This is despite the fact that we were essentially the only ones in the place at that time.... I have eaten at the Charlotte Uptown location for years and have spent thousands of dollars there with my family and business associates because of their dedication to customer service. The Columbia location obviously does not understand or value that concept.
We arrived at the time of our reservation (8:15), but we were not seated until after 8:45. The restaurant said they had no record of our reservation through OpenTable.
Most of the food was very good, but my steak was average.
For a special occasion (mother-in-law’s 80th birthday), the wait was surprisingly long and the service overall was less than we expected from Ruth’s Chris.
Will think twice before returning.
Took my daughter after daddy/daughter dance for special date night. Got seated at 7:45. Waiter Tony was awesome! Steaks finally came out at 9. Both steaks ordered med well but came out well well done. Tony apologized and sent back. Second time filet was even more well done then first time. Todd the manager came out and apologized and comped the meal for our inconvenience. Also a date across from is was wearing very provocative clothes where her entire breast were revealed several times and made my daughter very uncomfortable. Also lots of F words coming from that table. Was not the experience or the memory Inwas trying to create w my daughter. I have been here several other times and had no issues. Not sure if I would go back again? Tony and Todd were very kind and at least they tried thier beat to right the wrong.
Have eaten at Ruth's several times and this was my only somewhat disappointing experience. The steak was not up to standard, the shrimp and grits had sauce poured over it and the normally great Au Gratin potatoes were very average.
For the price you expect a wow factor, and on this occasion there was no wow.
Unfortunately this was the first negative experience I have had a Ruth Chris Steakhouse. Our party consisted of four people, there for a business meal. Our wait time, most likely due to a large party in the back, was almost one hour. Service was lackluster at best. Water was refilled but as a group we were hardly checked on the entire dinner.
Food for two of the three was undercooked. The last steak was overcooked. Lobster add-ons were not great, although Shrimp was out of this world. Sides were great as usual. Creme brulee was terrible, hard and cold.
We discussed our experience with the Manager, he was apologetic but didn't make up for it in any way.
With so much great food in Columbia, we'll save money next time and go to some of the surrounding resturants that ended up being much better.
My husband and I dined as we were traveling and passing through Columbia SC, we have gone to your restaurant in Pittsburgh several times. It has been awhile since we have eaten there so we made a trip there. I was very disappointed when I ordered a cocktail which was pricey and was brought about 2 Oz's. Of the drink in a shaker. My husband actually thought it was an initial pour and they left the shaker which wasn't so! Our bill was over $250 which is not a surprise however I probably would have ordered another drink or 2 if we weren't price gouged for the cocktails.
This was our first visit here, so we were excited! $300 down the drain. Worst dining experience in years. Hubs and I both ordered steaks (of course). Hubs medium, me med rare- both came raw. Server acted like we were at fault. Sent them back, mine returned still raw in the middle. By that time (there were other issues w our meal that caused my salad to come w the steak- and more!), we weren’t hungry any more and asked for food boxed and the check bc had to hurry to pick up kid. Server then disappeared for over 30min and we had to track him down. Hubs and I both had stomach issues after. Will not return.
I enjoyed the food, as it had been years since I came to Ruth Chris for restaurant week. Would like more choices for the specials, as there was both the Prix Fixe and a seasonal menu, and I would have loved to mix and match the two to pick the things I loved from each.
All food was good, except the bread pudding with the Prix Fixe. I thought the dessert would come out warm, but it was cold, bready, and hard to eat. Other than that, the rest of the food was good, even the au gratin potatoes, which I've never really liked until I tried Ruth Chris' version.
We chose Ruth's Chris my birthday. Birthday was noted on the reservation. The hostess even asked who's birthday it was when we arrived. Nothing 'Special" was done. The website states that if you tell them it is a 'Special" occasion that they would arrange a "Special" dessert. This is the 2nd time OpenTable was used and was told it was a "Special" occasion and nothing was done.
The food and ambiance were very nice. The food was delicious. But we were disappointed knowing our request was ignored.
My husband and I went to Ruth’s Chris steak house to celebrate our anniversary and birthday. Our food was delicious, our server; Ken, was excellent and attentive to our needs. We enjoyed the menu provided during Restaurant Week. It could not have been a better choice. The petite fillet was cooked to perfection and the whiskey bread pudding was oh so yummy. I highly recommend this restaurant. We plan to visit again.
Ordered a medium rare ribeye. Received a well done ribeye. Manager was called to table. He ordered another ribeye medium rare ribeye for me. I got back a beyond well done ribeye. Left the restaurant without getting an steak at all. Also ordered the fried lobster appetizer and got a glazed broiled lobster appetizer. In a nut shell the service and kitchen management were horrible . This is coming from a regular diner at Ruth Chris all over the nation.
Filets’ were “normal” for Ruth’s Chris-i.e., outstanding. Gumbo excellent and authentic. Balsamic tomatoes and mozzarella salad was very good.
Waiter up-sold me on fresh sea bass as “the better option today” when I selected salmon to begin with. That was disappointing; seasoned and cooked well but fishy taste. Bread pudding on the dry side. Out of local brewery beer featured on the menu. Red wine was superb
The service was very commendable. The restaurant staff was understanding and accommodating when my date's arrival was delayed. The valet service performed a wonderful "recovery" for me when I mistakenly left a present in my vehicle. Also, Ken, our server, was very prompt, courteous, and sociable. I will request him upon my next visit.
