Ruth's Chris Steak House - Chicago Ratings and Reviews
Overall, the food was good but not great. There was nothing special about the steaks. What was most disappointing was the service. We saw our server only three times - drink order, food order and to give us the check. Some of our food was delivered cold and we had to get the busboy to help us since our waiter was no where to be found. For the price, there are a lot of other options in the city. We will not be back.
Super busy but that’s expected for a Saturday night.we had an 8:15 reservation and had to wait about 20 min.the staff was friendly and competent.fun night out with the family.very kid friendly.in a town of many great steakhouses Ruth Chris didn’t disappoint
My husband and I went to Ruth's Chris as a special treat to ourselves for Thanksgiving dinner. We don't live anywhere near downtown and really don't go downtown for dinner very often but, this time decided to do something different and since the weather was pretty agreeable and I had never gone to any Ruth's Chris even though, I have seen them in many of the cities in which, we have visited but, for some reason we, simply just had not gone. Oh, I know, the reason we had not gone is because my husband said that Ruth's Chris was overpriced. So, I was really looking forward to my first but, not my husband's first visit to Ruth's Chris. I don't mind paying more or going a little farther if, it turns out to be worth it. The atmosphere was somewhat disappointing and just ok. The bathroom had no tissue in the largest stall which is usually dedicated at least, in part as handicapped so, special attention should be paid to that one at least. The service from the wait staff was outstanding. Most of the food we ordered and we did order quite a selection even though, it was just the two of us, was really quite good but, the lobster was just awful. I even enjoyed the bread pudding which is not, one of my favorites. When you pay the prices that you pay at Ruth's Chris you just don't expect that something as important, at least to me, as the lobster to be such a disappointment. I would go to another Ruth's Chris restaurant before I would write them off completely and would recommend Ruth's Chris to others because, as I said before the rest of the food was very good but, I would definitely warn them against ordering the lobster. In conclusion, I do look forward to my next visit to a different Ruth's Chris in possibly a different city. I would even though, I would not recommend the lobster to my friends and family I would give another Ruth's Chris a chance to make me love their lobster as much as I loved the steak which, is something that I would not have said about other steaks
This restaurant is overrated and not up to other places with the same name elsewhere. While the food is good, it is very overpriced. In particular, the wine list is outrageously overpriced. I had a modest Zinfandel that was 400% over the price one could buy the same wine at almost any store. Why must a place like this gouge its customers. Also, it is a cramped place with tables on top of each other - not a pleasant atmosphere.
My husband and I enjoyed a great meal here for his birthday. The service was great, the atmosphere was nice and romantic. I would say we sat upstairs if you are unable to climb the steps you will want to let the host know when you get there.
The food was amazing! We had the Porterhouse for two it was huge perfectly cooked and didn't need any add-ons. We wanted to try several sides which are all served family style the brussels sprouts and Mac & Cheese we so delicious. The broccoli and baked potato weren't anything special but still cooked perfectly. I will be returning to try a few of the other items on the menu. This place is worth every penny.
Our experience was a little disappointing actually. I think this particular Ruth’s Chris is way too lax with their dress code. My wife and I like to dress up and eat at nice places and we don’t mind paying $100 a plate for good food and a nice atmosphere.
It ruins the mood and ambiance when the guy sitting at the table across from you is wearing jeans and a t-shirt and his buddy is wearing his favorite sweatshirt. Unfortunately, they weren’t the only ones and we felt over dressed (sport coat, no tie).
We love Ruth’s Chris but I wouldn’t recommend this particular location for special occasions, business meetings, or any other occasion where you’re looking to impress someone. Same great food but lacking the usual class and professionalism of the other Ruth’s Chris’ we’ve visited.
The quality of the food was fine, what you'd expect for a steakhouse in Chicago. But even for a River North steakhouse the prices were high, somehow more expensive than Gibson's or Sullivan's even though this is a chain. But the main complaint was that they were disorganized - had to wait 20 minutes for a table despite having a reservation (that we called to confirm), and they brought the wrong food to our table after ordering. Not something I'd normally complain about but given the price you'd expect these basics to be taken care of
I had a lovely dinner here with my son. The steaks we ordered, a cowboy ribeye and a filet, came perfectly prepared. We both ate every bite. We shared the amazing sweet potato casserole. Yum! We also had the brussels sprouts and they were also delicious. They were tiny sprouts and tender with small pieces of bacon and maybe some honey combined for a great side dish. The only downside was the "mocktail" (non-alcoholic), which my son ordered, since it came full of alcohol. Not Good! He is adult but does not drink. My raspberry cosmopolitan was very good. We will go back.
Unfortunately our table wasn't ready when we arrived. Had to stand at the hostess stand while it was set. Then we waited almost 15 minutes to see our server. I had to ask for water during that time. Server was nice but brought out the wrong drink first for my husband. There was a large group sitting next to us which seemed to take up the attention of the servers. Food was excellent but not sure we'd go back after this experience. It was a Sunday after 8:30pm when we were there and we felt like an afterthought.
Our waitor was just okay. He was drinking wine while service us he was at the bar. Our service could have been a whole lot better. Our steak was burn we ask for well done but, not burn so, Martine told us that we shouldn't get off the grill because it would be burn that we should just cook on top so, it wouldn't burn we said ok and it still came to us burn and very dry. I have been come there for several years and never got a waitor who wasn't attentive. Next time, I will ask for Jason and Eric they was great waitors. Martine thought we wasn't gone to give us a tip because I didn't add it with the payment therefore, he came and charge us addition $10 saying he miss charge us and I have to pay on another tranaction. We did leave him a tip in cash. I don't put tips on my credit card. I just thought that he was stealing from me just because I didn't put a tip on my receipt at the time I was paying our dinner bill.
Had a little trouble getting seated even with reservation, but the food was simply outstanding. Melt in your mouth steaks were just what we were looking for. Beverage manager helped with serving and made some great suggestions as to wine and drink choices. She made the difference as far as service was concerned.
