As someone who works in the industry and knows what to look for in good food and good service I found it was outstanding, food was amazing and our server was beyond brilliant. It was my partner and I's first Valentine dinner together and we vow to come back next time we come to Calgary.

My wife’s 50th birthday party and the lobster bisque is what she wanted. We were seated quickly, to a nice table with a view and sprinkled with birthday confetti (very thoughtful touch) Martinis were perfect, followed by crab stuffed mushrooms and the lobster bisque. Crab cakes and a cooked to perfection filet. We enjoyed a nice red wine with dinner and finished up with a shared creme brûlée. Excellent service, delicious food, validated parking. A perfect evening, felt welcomed and we will be back.
This was my first time eating at Ruth Chris' in Calgary. It did not disappoint! My favorite is the one in Las Vegas but it was nice to be in downtown Calgary as the Christmas decorations were still up. Also it's always a highlight to go to the top of the Calgary Tower!
The ambiance is beautiful at this restaurant and the hostess and pleasant as well as the service staff. Our waiter was a bit slow with our coffee and bill, but overall it was a friendly environment. Our steak was delicious, done to perfection but i found the side entrees to be heavily doused in butter. The desserts are divine especially the chocolate duo!
We were sat in the most far back room where fireplaces are on the TV's and not much other 'ambiance' to speak of and while the evening was lovely, once we walked to the bathrooms and around the restaurant and saw how beautiful the other areas were with either a huge fireplace or a view of the city.... it was disappointing to know we had drawn the card that sticks you in a back room... Other than that, everything was nice.
We have been coming to Ruth Chris since the day it opened and we have seen staff, managers and food change. We usually always come for New Years unless we are away on vacation. Our disappointment at the end of the night was that they removed the Chocolate Sin cake from the menu. The adding of new cuts of beef were a plus but the removal of some side dishes and the changing of desserts were the down fall. I know most places change their menu but signature dishes should always stay.
We come for the steak and it is always amazing. As it was New Years the service was okay. We had to send one of our side dishes back as it was cold. It came back a second time, not much warmer. We were disappointed that the Chocolate Sin cake was removed off the menu and replaced by a Chocolate duo (which was not as good). You should really bring that dessert back. Or go back to the original three chocolate layer mousse as that was a great signature dessert.
Overall we would still come back.
The ambiance of this place was incredible. We were seated in the fireplace room, which was an amazing setting. Our wait staff Eric and Aaron were fantastic, thorough, and a pleasure to deal with.
Food was delicious although there were issues with the cook of the steak and the potatoes. These were addressed promptly and a manager was notified, which is where things took a bit of a turn south.
My steak (ribeye) was ordered to a medium cook. While absolutely delicious after getting towards the middle of the steak it was closer to blue rare. When my steak was returned (within 5 minutes), it was back on its sizzling plate, still rare, and i was told by who I would assume was the manager in question, that the plate is 500 degrees and that I should have cut the steak and flipped it in the plate for it to continue to cook “it’s a Ruth’s Criss thing”. With the original steak being on the plate for 15+ minutes I would hate to have seen it on its initial arrival. Also being our first visit to the restaurant, if that is indeed “a thing”, some guidance from the wait staff? They were aware this was our first experience there. The AuGratin potatoes as well, delicious, but undercooked..
The waiters were fantastic, the atmosphere was divine, the feeling of being brushed off when something wasn’t quite right left a bad taste.
Perhaps the manager who came to the table could take some lessons from his wait staff on how to deal with people in a pleasant manner..
We were seated in a small event room that offered great ambiance. There was 6 or 7 tables for two that allowed for some pleasant banter amongst all. You knew the individual meals were good, because, well for me the banter became very secondary to the flavour of my meal. All the other guests must have felt the same, there was no interaction between fellow diners other than the tinkle of cutlery and murmurs of mmmmmmmm this tastes great.
Most restaurants would have their B-game staff on for Boxing Day, but not Ruth's. We were shown a high level of service from the greet to the meat. Our waiter was informative and helpful as to appropriate sides for our steaks. And such steaks! After going nearly mad from the intoxicating smells of plates passing behind us, our own tantalizing slabs landed sizzling before us. Every bite was a revelation of what a good steak should be.
We had a wonderful time celebrating my birthday at Ruth's Chris! The restaurant is beautiful, and the service is excellent and professional. The waitstaff are knowledgeable and able to provide great recommendations. We really enjoyed the food and no one went home hungry! We would be happy to come back for another special occasion, or even just because.
This past December, I sent a PRIVATE NOTE to Ruth's. I didn't post my review then as I hoped Ruth's would respond, but they haven't. I'm left feeling they don't care about our unpleasant experience. So, I’m posting my review now, in hopes they'll take our experience into account . “My friends and I came to Ruth’s Chris last night to continue a holiday tradition (started in 2016) and to celebrate a birthday. We also had a birthday dinner at Ruth’s this past summer. All previous experiences have been amazing. Last night however, was a disappointment. The meal was amazing. The ambiance etc. All wonderful as usual. The gentlemen who took our food order was really terrific. But, the guy who took our drink order and served us was terrible. He was bartending and serving us. He took what should have been a really pleasant evening and made our group feel as if he was annoyed and put out that we were there and that he had to deal with us. He seemed irritated when my friend couldn’t decide what drink to start with. He would interrupt our table without saying pardon me and respond in a rude and short tones to things that we’d say. He really came off as if he couldn’t care less. I realize we were sitting in the Lounge, but we have been patrons of the Lounge previously and had a really nice time. In addition, we felt like he was rushing us. Then I realized why, as we left the restaurant – he was rushing out right behind us. So, I guess we were a roadblock to a pleasant evening that he had planned? Sitting in the Lounge, it’s not that we expect the same level of hand and foot service we’ve had in the dining room certainly, but we do expect to be made to feel welcome and treated with respect and above all genuine kindness at an establishment like Ruth’s Chris. I felt I needed to say something because your restaurant should be made aware as to how your customers are being treated and that we left feeling badly about our experience. Thank you for your time.“
