Ruth's Chris Steak House - Bethesda Ratings and Reviews
We eat out 2x a week in Bethesda/Chevy Chase at the best restaurants so we really want to like Ruth Chris but we have now had 3 bad experiences in a row. We don't go often because every time has been a disappointment. This time, my husbands steak was cooked wrong so we had to send it back - now this is supposed to be their specialty so how they can not get that right is unfathomabble. Then they sent us 2 cold side dishes! Then the waiter spilled a glass of red wine on the table. So I was assuming they would do something to compensate on the check - and they did nothing. It's a shocking lack of customer service. No wonder the place was half empty on a Friday. They need a new manager badly.
Maitre'd staff quite unfriendly and made us wait, despite having a reservation. I shouldn't have to wait 20 minutes when I have a reservation. Food was standard steakhouse fare you've had dozens of times before, with nothing really "special". Nice dinner out, but nothing spectacular.
I've been to Ruth's Chris at least a dozen times. Most, if not all, of my experiences were excellent! This one was just poor. I asked for medium-rare but I got medium-well. I likely saw my waiter five times..which means I barely saw him the entire night. This dinner experience was so very disappointing.
While the food is not particularly adventurous and the end of the day it's just a steakhouse, it's one that does its core job extremely well. The steak was excellent, the service perfect, and while the wine list was quite expensive it was also fairly standard for this level of restaurant, and it was of high enough quality that you can't help but be satisfied. If you've got the money you can't go wrong here.
By now, everyone knows that Ruth's Chris Steakhouse is one of the truly great places to go for a steak dinner. Not only is the beef excellent, but the service is simply outstanding, so very attentive. While the wine list is not the best in town, it does have a nice selection of wines by the glass and by the half-bottle. One interesting note - the menu lists the calorie count of all selections - the information isn't what you always want to know, but I think it's very helpful when making a choice between dishes. All in all, a great dining experience - I'll definitely be returning.
Best steak I've had in a while. Perfectly cooked and tremendous flavor. Also, we got the Osso Bucco Ravioli for and appetizer and it was absolutely delicious. In addition, salads were very crisp and fresh. Had the cheesecake for dessert and must say the creamy texture was unlike any other cheesecake I've tasted. Will definitely be going back!
We did like this place in general and the food was good. The waiter had a great personality although two major "oops" occurred on his part. 1) He didn't bring my husband's wine with his meal and we later had to ask for it and 2) There was an entire piece of our order missing. I expect if I am spending as much money as I am that those things wouldn't happen. At least not two things in one meal. He was very nice and apologetic however. As far as the food goes, if you haven't experienced anything better a "good" review may seem surprising. However, we hail from Dallas where some of the best high end steak houses are. We have actually gotten better steaks/meals with a better ambiance (believe it or not for a bit less money.
Wine list was pretty reasonable, probably about double retail which is lower than I expected for a high caliber steak house (many charge triple retail). Steaks are amazing, can't beat the porterhouse for two ($86 a la carte). The sides are of course very large so people can share.
Waitress was all too rehearsed on her lines - app's she recommended, the 500 degree plates, etc. We get it, the plates are hot. Try to put a little enthusiasm into your recommendations. She was quick with the drink refills though. What was really annoying was they kept seating people with young kids directly next to us. That early in the evening (5:30 or so) there is plenty of tables to space people out. I don't need small kids interrupting my evening, that's why I left mine at home! The mashed potatoes are good, but worth $8? I don't think so. Cheesecake that I took home for dessert left much to be desired. Steak was very good, perfectly cooked, but that's really the only "impressive" thing. Next time we're going to Morton's...
Vistited Ruth's Chris Steak House as part of the Bethesda Restaurant Week. The restaurant was busy but not overly noisy. The staff were friendly and attentive and service was very efficeint. The waiter knew the entire menu well and possesed a good knoweldge of all types and cuts of steak. The wine list was extensive - although typically overpriced, but did offer a few very acceptable wines by the glass. The Prix Fixe menu portion sizes were well balanced and food quality was excellent.
Well worth a visit if on a special offer, or for a celebration if you feel like pushing the boat out (come with a full wallet & empty stomach). I'd definitely recommend this place to my friends.
Overall a disappointing experience. The onion rings appetizer was good, but the tuna was overwhelmed by too muc pepper. The meat was overcooked: what was supposed to have been rare and medium rare arrived medium rare and medium, if not medium and medium well. the worst was the side dishes: the grilled tomatoe was neither here nor there, flavorless for sure and these guys should learn how to cook potatoes au gratin. All this for a rather hefty price; I do not mind paying a lot when the food is good. My first and last visit to this restaurant. Next time, I want to go to a steakhouse, I'll return to Mortaon's or another reputable steakhouse.
Normally I find that this Ruth's Chris is wonderful, but on this night, my steak was overcooked in places and just right in others. More a function of the shape of the steak, but still... Also, the sauteed spinach with garlic had no garlic. And then waiter was unable to get our dessesrt order correct. Usually I would use this restaurant for a special occasion, but I'm glad we didn't have a special occasion on this night!
very pleased with my dining experience on sunday. Our server was very nice and informative on all of the questions that my girlfriend and i had to ask. The food was superb and the atmosphere was perfect. I would say that the food is reasonably priced. Some portions were a little small, but most of them were plenty. Overall, i can't wait to go back and enjoy another feast there. BEST steak i've ever had!
