Ruth's Chris Steak House - Bethesda Ratings and Reviews
I had five clients at the restaurant for dinner. Overall the food was fine, the problem was service.
Service after the entre was delivered virtually disappeared. Desert menu's were very slow to come, and once ordered the desert itself was even slower. After prodding one of our waiters desert and coffee finally arrived, only when the check arrived did I realize one of my guests never got the coffee he ordered, the waiter did take it off the bill.
This was embarrassing for me, certainly will not use this location again.
We were treated well by attentive staff who paid special attention to the birthday girl. But for the hefty hefty price, a few food details disappointed. 2 filet mignon ordered medium rare came back medium at best. One of the salads was so overdressed with such a strong mustard dressing that it literally cleared out my sinuses. Not edible to most. Would have returned it but it would have embarrassed my kids. And the chocolate lava cake was almost all cake with virtually no lava. Once again cooked just a bit too long. This meal is all about great ingredients but their preparation should be flawless at this price point and it just wasn’t. Still a good time was had by all ....
I've always loved Ruth's Chris but this past experience was unfortunately not a good one. We started the meal with calamari which was so hard and chewy it was inedible. We sent it back and got a crab stack which was nice. For my entree I got the chop house salad which I love and my husband got a steak and baked potato. The Steak was delicious but his baked potato was cold and tasted like old microwaved potato. He sent it back and was given a new one which did come hot. The manager never came over to apologize or ask how or meal was and when the bill came there was no compensation (the crab stack actually cost more than the calamari and we were charged the higher amount). From a restaurant like Ruth's Chris I expected a little better service when things went as negatively as they did. I'm sad to say I won't be back.
This is a great restaurant!!! The way finer dining should be. I have been to this Ruth Chris' on several occasion. The food is always exceptional. The service is usually excellent. On this one Sunday night, they were clearly not prepared to handle the crowd they had. To the credit of the managers, it seemed as though every staff member made an attempt to keep all guests happy not an easy task in Bethesda Maryland. I saw two managers running from table to table, pouring water, clearing tables, etc. etc. I think they did a great job. I will be returning!!!
Steaks tasted as if they weren’t aged properly and had my whole party going straight to the bathroom when we all arrived home. Brussels sprouts were burnt and as the night traffic picked up our waiter became less and less attentive. We had to send the lamb entree back as it was way over cooked, to the point of well and we asked for medium. Then it came back rare. Not as good as other Ruth’s Chris’, was a disappointment.
This is our "go to" place and we went to celebrate our anniversary. The prep for us was fine but unexpectedly the steaks came out wrong, the sides were mediocre and the manager just kept apologizing. He said he deducted one of our drinks from the check - he did not. We called him back. I think it was just a bad day for the server and/or the chef. We will probably go to another location.
Food is always good here. The steaks were perfectly cooked and well-portioned. The sides were very tasty and plentiful! I chose a creme brulee for dessert (it may have been free for my birthday) and it was delicious. They decorated the table which made it quite festive. Very nice evening.
I had informed the restaurant that I would be celebrating a 20th anniversary. I requested an intimate table if at all possible. Though there were several available tables . . . we were sort of stuck at a two-top that felt like we were sitting in a hallway. Oh well.
We go to this Ruth's Chris maybe 6-8 times a year. We think the food, especially the beef, is fabulous. But this visit, the drinks (extra dry martini and cosmo) were presented beautifully but both were watery. We've NEVER had watery drinks here. They also seemed slightly smaller. For us, excellent cocktails and excellent food are of equal importance particularly when paying this much for a meal.
We wonder if this was a substitute bartender or if this is a new cost saving way to do business. We will probably go one more time to see if this was just an off night.
Our dining experience at Ruth Chris was not a good one this time. Our daughter treated us to dinner for our 41st anniversary . After taking our food and beverage order our waitress did not come back to the table to ask if we needed anything or it everything was ok. we did not get our side orders until we were nearly finished eating dinner and our beverages arrived near the conclusion of our dinner. We have not frequented Ruth Chris in awhile which probably explains why we frequently dined at the Capitol Grill for a good steak dinner and good service and ambience where the service has always been exceptional. What's more, the manager realized that we were waiting long enough for service and offered to give my daughter a large desert to compensate for the lack of good service. This was a Monday evening at 7:30 pm and the restaurant was not crowded so what happens during the week or the weekend??? Is the service this bad. Really disappointed.
Our dinner food for the 3 of us was all really delicious... the crab cakes, my salmon (with a kind of Korean marinade), and my husband's steak were are excellent, plus very tasty side dishes - the roasted brussels sprouts, the corn, sweet potato casserole, were all yummy. We had fine service throughout; my only small disappointment is that they no longer have their hallmark bread pudding, the replacement bread pudding was ok with a choice of delicious sauces, but the basic pudding was not quite as tasty. We ate early so the noise level was moderate, our booth was very comfortable. A fine restaurant experience all around.
We went to Ruth Chris to celebrate my mom's 91st birthday, which I noted on the reservation.
When we were seated they had sprinkled birthday confetti on the table which was a nice touch.
They also sat us at a table close to the front so it was easier for her even though she's in a wheelchair.
It was quiet enough that we could have a conversation and my mother could hear us and not have any conflicting noise around her.
She enjoyed her dinner which was most important and the rest of us did as well.
The only negative is trying to find the Valet Parking because there are one-way streets around the restaurant so we had to drive around somewhat.
We went to this restaurant for the first time for Restaurant week and had the dinner pre fix menu. It was a good deal for me since I don't eat red meat and was able to try the salmon on the pre fix which came with choice of salad and of dessert. The Caesar salad was delicious as was the bread and butter. The cheesecake was decent. My husband enjoyed the petit filet.
I was so excited to go to Ruth's Chris steakhouse. I heard such amazing things about the food and couldn't wait to try it. I must say I was so disappointed. The waitress was nice, but not attentive. We went more than an hour with an empty glass of water, until my friend got fed up, caught her attention and asked. The food was also disappointing. For a steakhouse, I was surprised that the steak was what they got wrong. I asked for medium well and it was definitely well done. My friend asked for a well done Steak and her steak came out like cardboard. I don't know if it was a busy night for them, but I will not be going there again.
Stinky water glasses, dry chicken, and slow service was my impression for this location. Previously, I have been to the one in Gaithersburg, which was like a completely different high-end restaurant. We will spend our money for better restaurants just across the street next time.
Do you really need to call your paying customers to let them know that you have a dress code? Do you really have to give attitude at the front desk so that we can get a table even thou we have reservations? Food was above average but the attitude just too much.
Restaurant week in Bethesda gave rise to annual friends' birthdays gathering. The filet was very tender and tasty, cooked perfectly--sides were small and fairly standard steak house fare. House salad was pretty in presentation, but overwhelmed with dressing. Ultimately the salad and entree choices were very limited with one dessert --tho a nice cheesecake offering. Unfortunately, gaining the check and awaiting return of credit cards became a long wait as they had a packed house and were hustling, not aware that despite multiple requests, we were stuck for maybe 20 minutes with parking meters running out after 2 hours.
I have been to several Ruth Chris restaurants and generally really like them but this was one of the worst food experiences I had. I took my team of 13 out for a dinner. My filet was over cooked. Most (not all) of my team seemed happy with theirs. The restaurant itself seemed out dated.
The first half of our dining experience was less than stellar. we were seated at a large booth with confetti on the table - this obviously gave everyone a chance to say "who's birthday is it?" as they approached the table - it gets old after the first 2 people.
Then the server almost immediately passed us off to another server - which would have been find, except that second server didn't want to give us the time either. So partly perhaps because we said we were ordering from the Restaurant week menu - but even with that, adding in other items off the menu and drinks - we felt like we were being shafted for ordering off the special menu.
We handed back over our dirty bread plates and then they were never replaced and bread wasn't brought out 'til we were well into our second course.
Wine wasn't brought to the table until we asked somebody after we had finished the first courses.
By that point i was ready to leave.
But we stayed and the food was very good (Lobster bisque, petit filet, + cheesecake) and the wine was very good (Davis Bynum pinot noir). The manager comped our dessert, but i'm not sure if that was because it was a birthday or because the realized we had some service issues. Either way, nobody ever stopped by our table to apologize and we were supposed to have dessert with our "restaurant week' menu anyway.
I was just so frustrated with the lack of service that i'm not sure I'd return.
