Ruth's Chris Steak House - Austin Ratings and Reviews
Great place for a steak. It isn’t cheap, but reasonable for the quality of food and the setting. It is noteably quieter than similar steakhouses in the area and great for a couple looking for a tasty meal while focusing on each other. We were there for a date night with my wife. I didn’t make special arrangements before hand other than clicking “date” on the open table reservation. There was some subtle heart confetti on the table which added a very nice touch.
First time dining here for a special Anniversary dinner. This is not a kid friendly restaurant yet a group with small screaming children were sat by our anniversary table. We asked to move. Then we had the most underwhelming dinner of our lives. Filet didn't even look like a filet it was flat and salty and lacked flavor. Eddie V's and Steiner Steakhouse much better. The lamb chops were covered in salt the first time and were remade and the second order all 3 lamp chops were cooked at 3 different temperatures, rare, medium and too well done. Manager and Executive chef both apologized and did take it off our ticket but this is unacceptable. The lamb chops lacked flavor and were mostly fat. The sizzling hot plates are stupid and because there is hot oil it pops. So hopefully you aren't wearing nice clothes otherwise you will have grease stains on you. Gimmicky and unnecessary. The wine list is marked up 300+% . 2012 Jordan retails for $50 and you can get 1 glass here for $52! Thats ridiculous. The only great thing about the evening was we sat in the lounge and they had a mediocre live jazz band (bass, piano, vocals). We will never go back. Not worth the $$$
Worst dining experience ever. We came to celebrate my husbands birthday. Three of us ordered filets and none were cooked properly. We asked for them to be cooked more which they did and were still not correct. We were treated very rudely and told to leave. Never visiting again. When you are paying $$$ for food you expect to get what you want.
Our reservation was not honored. Asked to wait in bar that was freezing. We came for the obstetrics and there was none left but tails. Not the same. The Chateau Simard was well priced and our server Rachael was delightful. Still this was our annual holiday family outing, always at Ruth’s Chris and we were very disappointed. We will not be going back.
Parking and valet was great. Arrived about 30 min early and checked in with the hostess. We were told we would be seated when they were ready for us, so we went to the bar. About 5 min after our reservation time I went to the hostess and asked how much longer until we were sat. She then told us we would be sat after it seemed like she realized they forgot about us.
Our waiter was knowledgeable and nice. My steak did not come with the added toppings. The manager came by and apologized for it. At the end of dinner asked for a cup of coffee and the check. All I received was the check.
We arrived 25 minutes early and were seated right away. Service was great. We asked for hot chocolate which was not an available beverage, but our server found a way to get it for us. 8 of us had 3 shared meals and 2 full meals. All was served hot and delicious without confusion.
My family and I made reservations here for Christmas Day however they were running behind in their reservations and we were made to wait at least 20 minutes. But we made it work by having some drinks in the bar. Upon sitting at our table we were told by the server that they were out of quite a few items but we weren’t bothered by that either. Our server, Tanner, was AMAZING! Really nice guy and totally made the experience for us. Because when it was time for the food all of the steaks weren’t cooked to our order. Med rare became well done, medium came out medium rare... etc. Management was very gracious and comped the steaks for us. We’re chalking it up to an overly crowded night.
We ate at the Austin Ruth's Chris on Christmas Day at 4:45. The food was as delicious as it always is at Ruth's Chris. The problem on this occasion was the service. It was very obvious that the restaurant is not used to handling the crowd that was there for Christmas dinner. Every table was full and continually turning over from our arrival until our departure. Our server was harried and kept apologizing for mistakes being made. He was certainly pleasant enough, but he was unfamiliar with the menu and overworked to the point of being unable to give us the attention that Ruth's Chris is famous for. Our drinks took too long to arrive. Our first courses arrived promptly, but while our plates were still half-full, our entrees arrived! His clearing of the table was sporadic - we had a party of five, and most times, plates were cleared only in front of some of us. In terms of service and attention to detail, it was not what we have come to expect from Ruth's Chris restaurants. We did not blame our server, though, because the management obviously placed him in an almost impossible situation. With most everyone having a reservation for Christmas dinner, the management should have been totally prepared for the numbers of diners they were to serve on that holiday.
Hard to give this restaurant a bad review after so many great steak dinners, but when you ruin my Christmas Eve dinner with family, sorry- have to let you go RC. This has been our family favorite for years for Christmas Eve dinner. Booked a table for 6 at 7:30. Arrived on time and told there would be a wait. Bar area had been turned into dining area, so there was no place to sit and enjoy a cocktail. Not that we could get a cocktail! Only two bartenders, and they both ignored us completely for 15 minutes—no eye contact or acknowledgement that we were standing there trying to order, until finally my nephew yelled out “hey can we get a drink!”. Ten minutes later we had drinks, but no cocktail napkins. Bartender spilled part of my drink on counter and disappeared without handing me a napkin or wiping it up. Once again ignored completely. Hostess returned and asked if we would like to be seated immediately in the bar area. Uh NO! It’s Christmas Eve. Black tables cloths, cold, no atmosphere. Told her we would wait. Well 45 minutes plus later with no drink refills, we were finally seated in the back room - another add on I suppose. We have always been seated in the main dining room. No atmosphere here. Manager came over and told us to enjoy three free appetizers on the house for the wait. Seriously? Where were we going to go? I contemplated ordering 3 $105 Seafood Towers! Our waiter Clint was polite, but running in circles. I think we finally had appetizers at 9:30. Service definitely not up to the standards this restaurant has always offered, especially on holidays. Sloppy holiday planning on restaurant management’s part. We won’t go back next year. There are plenty of great steakhouses in Austin. Sadly, RC seems to be struggling to compete.
We had a party of 8 gathered to celebrate my father’s 88th birthday. Guests ranged in age from 3 to 90 so we booked a 5:30 reservation, assuming we would be out in 2 hrs easily. We were there over 3 hrs! Service was painfully slow. Ordering process, food delivery, desserts out at 2 different times with about 10 minutes between them. Even getting the check was slow. We spent over 900.00 (including tips) for a great steak dinner with horrible service. So very disappointed as this was not our first time at Ruth’s Chris. Won’t be going back for a Special Occasion again.
I made a Thanksgiving reservation for 2. We just moved to Austin from San Diego a few days ago, so this is one of our 1st dining experiences here besides Uchi. The place was emptying out at the time we arrived 7:30ish, we were seated at a table by the exit door in the back room on the left. It was freezing there, please never let them seat you at that table in the colder months. We had to put on our jackets to eat dinner after waiting 15 mins to have our order taken. There was also a large group that was super loud in the room singing kids sing along songs, like even the adults. Onto the positive (singular) The food was good and consistent, I’ve been going to Ruth’s Chris since I was probably 15 years old with my family, I’m now 36 and it’s always been consistent.
The fact that they sat us in the freezing cold exit door table just kind of ruined the whole thanksgiving dining experience for us, we just wanted to eat as quick as possible and get out of the place.
We dine out a few days a week for dinner, so hopefully this isn’t the Austin norm. Will most likely dodge the Ruth’s Chris going forward. Cheers
Another great visit to Ruth's Chris! I can't remember the last time I had a bad dinner here as its pretty consistent. I had the surf and turf with the ribeye and 2 lobster tails and it was great as always.. My girlfriend had the filet and we shared a few side dishes.. It was on Thanksgiving as well and all the servers were great! Our main server Megan was great and really funny..
You can't go wrong with Ruth's Chris!
A very mixed experience. I first dined at Ruth's Chris more than 30 years ago when they first opened in Houston. It was different with the sizzling plates and robust service. I've been to this location several times in the past 5 years and I just do not love it. From the second we walked in, all of the staff knew our names and greeted us accordingly - a very nice touch. The waiter was very friendly, informative and professional. He took our orders and the team approach from the staff began and things got off track. The appetizers were fine and served correctly. However, when the main courses arrived, the steaks were each served to an incorrect person. As the plates are too hat to touch, the steaks had to be reshuffled. In the past the waitstaff at steak houses have asked us to cut into the meat to see if it is the correct temperature. That did not happen here. Mine was slightly over cooked and was tough. Throughout the course of the meal we were invisible to the waiters. It was very disappointing.
I think there are better options for steaks in Austin. This may have been out last visit to Ruth's.
Their cooling and heating suck! They crunch you into a space. My fam went here for a special holiday meal and the put a table of 8 next to the door, did our split meals super sloppy, no hot butter plates if you share and attitudes are weird from servers. This sucks compared to the same chain in Cancun, Vegas, Atlanta, Seattle, Miami or the like ... bartenders can be good but if you stay longer than waiting for your never ending wait for your bill, they ask you to move off the bar to ‘other area’ even if you just spend $250!
