I made a Thanksgiving reservation for 2. We just moved to Austin from San Diego a few days ago, so this is one of our 1st dining experiences here besides Uchi. The place was emptying out at the time we arrived 7:30ish, we were seated at a table by the exit door in the back room on the left. It was freezing there, please never let them seat you at that table in the colder months. We had to put on our jackets to eat dinner after waiting 15 mins to have our order taken. There was also a large group that was super loud in the room singing kids sing along songs, like even the adults. Onto the positive (singular) The food was good and consistent, I’ve been going to Ruth’s Chris since I was probably 15 years old with my family, I’m now 36 and it’s always been consistent.
The fact that they sat us in the freezing cold exit door table just kind of ruined the whole thanksgiving dining experience for us, we just wanted to eat as quick as possible and get out of the place.
We dine out a few days a week for dinner, so hopefully this isn’t the Austin norm. Will most likely dodge the Ruth’s Chris going forward. Cheers
Another great visit to Ruth's Chris! I can't remember the last time I had a bad dinner here as its pretty consistent. I had the surf and turf with the ribeye and 2 lobster tails and it was great as always.. My girlfriend had the filet and we shared a few side dishes.. It was on Thanksgiving as well and all the servers were great! Our main server Megan was great and really funny..
You can't go wrong with Ruth's Chris!
A very mixed experience. I first dined at Ruth's Chris more than 30 years ago when they first opened in Houston. It was different with the sizzling plates and robust service. I've been to this location several times in the past 5 years and I just do not love it. From the second we walked in, all of the staff knew our names and greeted us accordingly - a very nice touch. The waiter was very friendly, informative and professional. He took our orders and the team approach from the staff began and things got off track. The appetizers were fine and served correctly. However, when the main courses arrived, the steaks were each served to an incorrect person. As the plates are too hat to touch, the steaks had to be reshuffled. In the past the waitstaff at steak houses have asked us to cut into the meat to see if it is the correct temperature. That did not happen here. Mine was slightly over cooked and was tough. Throughout the course of the meal we were invisible to the waiters. It was very disappointing.
I think there are better options for steaks in Austin. This may have been out last visit to Ruth's.
I really want to love Ruth's, my engagement dinner was there many years ago, but it's been going up in price and down in quality over the last few years. On this recent visit, I ordered a larger filet and, while it was very tender, it was under seasoned and the cut was not as good as it should be for $45 (it was not flat but rather tapered on one end leading to an overcooked piece). The bread is not as good as it used to be. The sides are a mixed bag, some are good, some not so much. I did have an excellent seafood gumbo to start, but it was also bit under seasoned. At least the service was great. It's just not the outstanding choice it used to be, now it just feels a bit over priced for the mixed quality.
