Ruth's Chris Steak House - San Antonio (Airport) Ratings and Reviews
In the Battle of the steakhouses it’s sometimes hard to chose. Glad I chose Ruth’s. To begin with the food was prepared as requested. This is my experience with the better steakhouses.
What enjoyed so much was the abscence of loud music. Yet the restaurant was lively with a great attentive staff.
We were seated promptly and the service impeccable.
My DH and I went there for our 25th anniversary. It was absolutely wonderful. The waiter was there for our every need . The food was great. It's expensive, but we go out to a place of that caliber very seldom due to the cost.
Because it was our anniversary, the hostess sprinkled rose petals on the table, which added to the experience.
I would give them 5 stars. It was lovely. As for the cost........ ??? It is up there.
My partner and I were celebrating our 17yr anniversary and dined at Ruth Chris and had an excellent experience. From the hostess to the servers they all were very nice and told us Happy Anniversary! Our dinner was amazing! Can’t say enough about how delicious all of our sides, salads and desserts were, our steaks literally melted in our mouths. We will be back for sure.
I will never dine at this restaurant again. For the record, I am not normally a complainer. We had reservations for 8:00 pm on a Sunday night. There were about 6-8 tables seated in the entire place. I was looking to order a Napa Valley Cabernet for under $100. There were several listed on the menu, but each time I selected the bottle the waiter would return to our table and let me know they didn't have it. After the 4th attempt, we gave up on wine and ordered cocktails. I ordered a manhattan which was not made to my liking, and had to order additional vermouth to correct it myself. Our friends ordered the Porterhouse for 2 and roasted brussel sprouts. The waiter was too embarrassed to come back to our table to inform us the were OUT of porterhouse steak AND brussel sprouts, so he sent the manager. She was very apologetic and offered my friends 2 T-bones for the same price as the porterhouse for 2. The food was adequate but it was most certainly not a $350.00 meal (which is what we paid, not including the tip). I was extremely disappointed.
Ruth's Chris doesn't disappoint. Top-shelf steak. Unfortunately they had to 86 the Cowboy Ribeye...but the T-Bone surprised. Au Gratin potatoes packed full of flavor, but under-cooked, so they took it off the bill - despite the fact I ate all of them. Prob my 5th visit to this store over last 8 years and I'll be back.
This is an expensive high end restaurant. With exception of Frank (one of our waiters) it appeared the entire staff was training. It is really unforgivable that a place that specializes in steaks can't cook one correctly. We eat at this restaurant 3-4 times a year but I don't think we will be back. While not horrible the service and food we received was like one might receive at IHOP.
Our server Michael was perfect!!!! Went for restaurant week lunch and a fun date with my husband of 42 years. My craft cocktail- a Pomegranate Smash was divine(bourbon)....I will be back for that drink. My husband's white wine was delicious. He had the crab BLT which was nice, and the zucchini fries were over the top. I had the Prime Burger...very good meat. The chocolate sin cake for dessert was also superb!
This review is based on 2 dining experiences. The food was consistently amazing both times. The steak is phenomenal, so far my favorite steak in SA. You can't beat the 500 degree plate the the steak comes on cooking in butter! In regards to service, the first time I went we had a waiter named "Frank," who was AWFUL! If it was for service alone I would not have gone back. I had to ask for drink refills 4 times and wait 30 minutes before I even got a refill, EACH TIME. The restaurant wasn't even busy, yet frank was a very rude stand-offish waiter, not what you expect for a well known steakhouse. The second time I went on a busy night and had Derick who was a great waiter, extremely attentive to his tables, did not have to ask for refills or wait at all. I will definitely be asking for Derick and NOT Frank from now on.
Friday lunch with my dad. The food was luke warm, not hot, but edible. Our waiter was nice, but would disappear for extended periods of time, but it seemed normal, because the other tables in our section did not get very good service. The corner we were seated in was exceptionally noisy, there was a table with approximately 6 people, 3 tables with 2, and a family with 3 adults and 2 noisy and uncontrolled children (not at all the restaurants fault). Everything echoed in the seating area. I had a party of 2 and had to yell across the table to be heard. Horrible experience. The food tasted good, but I can't stand the ambiance. Horrible end to a busy week. I should note it was Restaurant Week, and hopefully the poor service and noise level are a direct result. I was unaware of this at the time I booked my reservation. Will not be returning anytime soon.
Overall enjoyed experience just a few issues experienced. Too much dressing on Ceasar salad, waited longer than expected to have server to ask if done or box the leftovers. Noise level louder than expected. Did not have to yell to converse with dining partner noise from other tables were noticeable, expected noise to be more muted.
