Rusty Scupper - Baltimore Ratings and Reviews
We went for dinner Friday night since it was close to our hotel. We tried the Maryland crab soup, cream of crab soup, crab cake dinner and crab stuffed trout. All were delicious! We both ate every morsel of the bread and I especially loved the dipping sauce! We tried the Smith Island cake for dessert. It’s a huge piece of cake that’s tasty but not worth the $16 price. I enjoyed more The biscotti ice cream that came with it. We will definitely return on our next visit. The views are absolutely beautiful of the harbor.
This place is just amazing. From the food to the staff. My significant other and I enjoyed every part of our meal from the bread to the appetizer to the entree to the dessert. I will recommend everyone to eat there. Due to the high price point, this would be for special occasions or a date night.
This place made my husband's birthday so special. The atmosphere was beautiful. The food and drinks were delicious. They gave a complimentary slice of birthday cake for my husband. It is also wheelchair accessible. It was our first time but will definitely go back again.
Other than the view, this was a very disappointing experience. The food was not prepared well and was heavily salted. The vegetables were over done, the salmon was overdone, the mashed potatoes were not fresh. The coconut shrimp was average at best. The seafood chowder was the only thing that was enjoyed in the whole meal. If you are looking for a view you might enjoy it but if you were looking for good food you will be terribly disappointed
Went for the Sunday Brunch and it lives up to the expectations. The mood is set when they quickly seat you and explain the many stations and options you will have. Nice live music and a beautiful view. Everything was delicious! The all-you-can-eat brunch includes a large hot bar, a raw bar, made to order omelette bar, plus dessert bar. An alcoholic drink and drink/coffee is included in the price. I get the sense it's not frequented by locals but for this out-of-towner it was a wonderful way to close a celebratory weekend.
I wanted to give this restaurant a better review, but the food was below average. I ordered a Caesar salad, but it was wilted. Our server was very apologetic and served me a new one. Then, I ordered the mahi mahi which turned out to be a let down. It taste like water. It was blackened but unseasoned. My boyfriend's Rockfish was good but when we got home he got sick. It was from the squid risotto. The waiter was great. The view was beautiful. The restaurant was nice. But a restaurant is only as good as the food.
Our server Briannna was very helpful and professional. The stuffed trout was perfect as were the oysters and salmon. Loved their bread and salads. A true Baltimore gem. We had reservations but arrived early and were seated quickly. Beautiful views of the inner harbor. Love it!
Due to the fact it was our anniversary something special seemed quite right. I had ordered flowers ahead and had them delivered. Called the day of just to verify they’d be at the table. And the staff did not disappoint. Everything was set up at the table and I think my date was quite impressed. The food is always fantastic and our waiter was excellent. For sure recommend especially for any special occasion. Much phrase to the rusty scupper and all the people involved making our special night absolutely flawless.
Because this was a special occasion, I was expecting to pay well for great food. And that is what happened. My food was excellent! I appreciated that the waiter offered me soup to taste (at no charge) and brought a second chowder when one person's choice was mistaken.
The others noted it was noisy , though I didn't think it was overly loud. However, I did have to ask the waiter to repeat almost everything he said and still did not quite catch everything. While the wait staff was attentive (though he did forget a requested refill), he also seemed a bit pretentious for us.
All in all it was a very good evening for our special occasion.
We were extremely disappointed there beer taps were broken so you would think they would have stocked up on bottles and nothing but cheap domestics. For a seafood restaurant horseradish would be a important condiment especially when eating oysters. It was terribly bad and tasted like flavored grass. The atmosphere was nice and most of the food was ok.
3 of us dined and each of us had something wrong with our entree. Food took a long time to arrive. Service was so-so. We often had to get the attention of random servers passing by when we wanted something. Their excuse was a party of 17 had them behind and rattled. Manager did come to table and take off the first round of drinks and gave me his card. Ironically, something I ate there led to gastrointestinal upset later that p.m. I’ll not eat there again.
We had Thanksgiving dinner at this restaurant. The reason why I gave the food four stars is because some of the food was cold probably due to people leaving the lids open . At times the buffet lines were long and hard to move around . Overall, we enjoyed Thanksgiving day at this restaurant.
Torn as to my thoughts on the Rusty Scupper. I think my thoughts are best summed up as, it is a gimmick restaurant.
They have enough positives, like the location on the water and even the the lack of competition, that it makes you over look their may flaws. Right now I would not return. I have mostly a blah thought of them.
But... this is where the gimmick comes in... in a year, I'd likely be willing to return. I'll forget about the over priced completely average experience and try it again because of their location. I will try again and just hope it is better.
If you are looking for exceptional, don't bother. If you are looking for a place that may some day be as glorious as the history on their walls represents... then maybe give them a shot.
Also, just another small note, the windows out over the harbor, have a significant glare at night. I don't think there is much they can do about it, but even though we had a great seat the view wasn't much to look at.
Our dining experience was a little out of the ordinary. We came with our family for a business meal. We brought along out 4 year old, who may have been the one going above the ambience level. He sung a birthday song to a nearby table with his new guitar. Very family friendly though. This restaurant offered a delicately unique menu offering vegan and gluten free options. Their oysters were on point. The staff was very attentive. Not completely aware of all the surroundings, i.e. drinks became empty once, and the server unknowingly spilled the sauce from the empty bowl of mussels. There was no need to point it out to him though. He was well trained on the menu and had great service. We were more casual then the tables surrounding and he treated us all the same. The specials are worth trying. Each bite of everything we had from apps to dessert was phenomenal. We are huge foodies and know good food! The espresso was over priced but perfect flavor. We tried the suggest scotch after dining, a great selection. We also showed up to dine early from what we had reserved but they got us seated, no problem.
