Rustico - Ballston Ratings and Reviews
Rustico seemed great. I was looking forward to eating there after moving to Ballston recently. Unfortunately, it was a little disappointing. I ordered the lamb ravioli and the sauce was strange and it was overpriced for what I got. The service was a little slow and inattentive. People who ordered the pizza seemed to be enjoying it so I maybe I will give it another chance in the future.
This is one of our neighborhood favorites but tonight was pretty bad. We sat on the patio, which was very full, and our service was horrible. We never had full water, our appetizers came and we had no silverware, our dinner came out and the entire order was wrong, we never had our drink orders refilled, we had to track down employees for service, basically just one thing after another. But when the night was over we never received an apology for the poor service or anything.
We always get the chickpea crust pizza and I think it was a bit burnt this time, but still good. We requested a table outside and we got the last one. Service outside made it confusing for the waiters who weren't sure where to take our food at times. They also keep forgetting to give us small plates... but overall it's a nice casual dining experience where the pesto rolls and other appetizers are small but delicious and not too expensive.
Love love love the chickpea crust pizza! Second time I had it this time was a bit burnt so not thrilled but was still good. Carrots for sides was very tasty and rissoto tater toys delicious as well! Always a safe go to spot in the neighborhood. Great outdoor seating!
Wonderful meal, knowledgeable and friendly server, extensive beer and wine selection. Our teenaged sons loved it as much as my wife and I did. Lamb ravioli and strip steak w chimichurri were the favorites of our table. Burrata and prosciutto salad was excellent as well. Will definitely go again if in the area.
The food was good and the $15 lunch box special was as good value. The cheesesteak, creamy tomato basil soup, and lemonade were good. The caesar salad was not very good. When I entered, I thought it would be noisy, but it was fine. I recommend this restaurant. This was my second time eating there.
Wasn't too happy that the server gave us a $30 bottle of beer as a recommendation without letting us know the price. It's a common courtesy to quote the price when it is that high. They have a good selection of beer and wine, but make sure you ask the price if you seek the server recommendation.
My family and I received a $100 gift card to eat at this restaurant and the food was not savory. We had no idea what a lot of the things on the menu were. We were a party of 6 and they sat us in the middle of the place right next to the server station which was loud and we could watch the servers on their phones instead of attending to the customers. The server took my mom's plate with her hot tea bag on it and to get another one, the server told us we would have to pay for a whole other tea bag. The "tots" were made of ricotta cheese and tasted nothing like a tater tot. The crabcake had a lot of breading and you couldn't taste the crab at all. It maybe good food, but not our style. We had a lot of food leftover and did not choose to take any home as leftovers. Very expensive for the tastiness we received.
This place wasn't that great. With a limited menu, I expected more from the actual taste in food. The waiter was also really bad. Immediately blamed the kitchen for messing up his other table's food 4x (made us feel real confident about our meals...) but really he wasn't on his game. The ravioli came out slightly colder than it should. I will recommend those risotto tots though and the mussels. But basic things were missed like no mussel fork, or silverware in general, when they were brought out or a spoon to twirl my pasta with.
The beer selection here is incredible. The food was also pretty tasty. I had the half chicken. It's a bit pricey for the quality of the food. And the service could have been a bit swifter and more attentive, but it was a Friday night so I'm giving them a bit of a pass. The waiter we had was knowledgeable about the beer list. Overall, I'd definitely recommend Rustico for a date or a nice evening out.
We arrived and went to a busy bar to wait on our friends. We received immediate attention and aid in picking one of hundreds of beer choices. Dinner was excellent (seafood linguini for 2 and pizza for 2 - gluten free). Restaurant was busy and a little loud, but that is what you should expect on a Friday night at 7pm if it is any good.
New favorite pizza place! Loving in Arlington for over 30 years, I've finally found the best pizza in Arlington that is delicious and gluten free. My boyfriend and I ordered the chickpea pizza crust to try because we figured it would be healthy and wanted to try something new and it was so delicious! Moist, doughy but also crispy = perfect pizza crust! We got the ricotta/spinach pizza and the crispy Brussels sprouts with pomegranate. It was perfect for the 2 of us. We sat outside on the side and it was very romantic with the candle light, prob a bit too dark, maybe they turned on the twinkle lights after we left but it was quiet and we could hear ourselves talking which is nice and in contrast to the interior bar area. There was quite a large beer selection and wine list but I don't drink so I was shocked to hear they didn't even make non-alcoholic drinks. Also our server might have been new because we had to ask for utensils but the rest of the service was great.
We went to Rustico for Sunday brunch. The service was poor. We were seated for some time before anyone even stopped by. I ordered the breakfast sandwich, which was unimpressive and tasteless. It was described as egg, bacon and cheese on a brioche bun. It arrived cold. The cheese was what appeared to be a prepackaged slice of orange cheese thrown on top of the sandwich. It was not even close to melted. My son's French fries were good. Nevertheless, I will not return.
Our party of three all ordered different items and were thoroughly pleased with our choices. Diner #1 had the Lunch Box option of Cubana Sandwich, Vegetable Soup and Harvest Salad; Diner #2 had the Lunch Box of Brisket Sandwich, Tomato Basil Soup, and Salted Beet Salad; Diner #3 had a Burger (requested only cheese) and Fries. The burger was cooked to medium perfection and arrived as ordered. We also shared two dessert choices of Pumpkin Cheesecake (recommended by our waiter, Thank You!) and the Chocolate Cake. Everything was delicious and ample servings, and we were all very impressed. The restaurant was not very busy when we arrived at noontime, but the place began to fill with office workers. We were all happy to have been seated in a booth near the bar area. Will definitely return to try the Happy Hour, awesome beer list and cushy looking bar seats!
The food runner accidentally switched my steak with my friend's (medium well versus my ordered medium rare). I asked specifically as they put the food down, but the food runner clearly had no idea. I didn't cut into my steak until my friend had already started eating, so we switched afterwards but I mentioned to our waitress what happened - especially since I asked as the food runner put my plate down! They were super nice about the whole thing, offered to make a whole new steak. I declined but they made one for me anyway and took half off both of our steaks! Such great customer service. I will definitely be back! Food was great - I definitely recommend the strip steak and the mozzarella whipped potatoes!
Our first visit. We were pleased with our choices. The risotto tots are super and plentiful! The pretzel bites were okay; wouldn't order them again. Decent house wine for $5 before 7pm and extensive beer list. Bacon burger, beet salad and chicken sausage pizza (very good crust) were all thumbs up. Noise level at 6:30 on Saturday made for easy conversation -- a plus.
This was my second time here. First time food and service were great. This time, we barely got any attention from our server, and the food was very disappointing (pesto rolls were small, overdone, didn't taste any pesto, our pizza was not very tasty). I really liked this place the first time and so I am very disappointed to be leaving a negative review. The only consistent thing between the first and second visit was the lamb gnocchi, this was very good both times. Maybe this was a fluke, or I simply ordered the wrong menu items, I haven't decided if I will give it another go at some point.
Brother-in-law was in town and we decided to try something different -- Rustico in Ballston was convenient for our daughter and her toddler who was meeting us there. Prior to arrival received a call explaining how we would be seated since we had 5 plus a high chair -- a nice touch. It was a mid-week dinner, so we had no wait, right to our seats. First impression was not too good since the waitress was not attentive and hard to drag down. The food made up for it: Brussel sprouts were amazing, as was the calamari. The other nice feature were the half portions so if you filled up on your early courses, you didn't need to bring home a huge doggie bag. Overall, a very good experience and would travel there again.
The weather turned out to be very warm for a February afternoon and they were very accommodating when we asked to sit outside. It was clear they weren't planning on seating anyone outside, but after we asked, they wiped down the tables and other people started requesting to be outside as well. The food and service was great!
Absolutely fantastic! From the quick-service the Fantastic waiters and the entire meal! One of the waiters even brought out extra feta cheese because he said I have to try it with the 10 ounce strip really nice touch! Very big portions we had to bring leftovers home! Highly recommended for a romantic evening a birthday party or even a get-together or going out to dinner.
I love this place! Been here 5 times over 3 years, every time I'm in DC. The beer list on tap is curated by a god of beer. Every one I've tried (dozens) is complex, interesting, amazing. I fell in love with sour beers here and had to get an oak barrel to try making some. Beer tasting heaven.
