Rustico is the quintessential neighborhood pub on the edge of Old Town Alexandria. The menu features seasonal, hearty American fare from a wood-fired oven and grill, including pizzas and rotisserie meats, along with other rustic cuisine using the freshest local ingredients available. There’s also no mistaking Rustico’s love for barley & hops! The bar’s focal point is a custom galvanized inverted T bar with 30 brilliant taps book-ended by two massive coolers holding more than 400 different types of ales, lagers, ciders and stouts.

Rustico Ratings and Reviews
Loved introducing Rustico to my colleagues. I travel to the Alexandria area for business and always try to include Rustico in the plan. I have loved everything I have ordered. The grilled Caesar is always a favorite. The pizzas are delicious. I went with the mushroom burger this time. Yum! My team had mussels, pork sliders, pizzas and everyone was thrilled. Thanks for a great experience.
Made a Friday evening reservation on Open Table for 7pm. Got a call from the restaurant at 6:20 that they did not know why Open Table allowed my reservation, and they had no tables at 7pm. After some discussion, it was determined that they could "make it work" for me at 7:30. My group of 3 arrived at 6:15 and were seated immediately as there were several tables free -- so I have no clue why they said they could not accommodate us at 7pm!! We have eaten here many times, but we have not been in the last couple of years. The food has gone downhill. We were all disappointed with our choices -- basket, chicken, and burger. Throughout our dinner, servers tried to remove our plates before we had finished. Once finished, however, it was difficult to find anyone who wanted to take our plates away -- and no one offered us coffee to dessert options -- they just put the check on the table!!! Too many good choices in Alexandria to go back to Rustico again.
Delicious! This was our second time here. We came for brunch today and it was awesome. I had the eggs Benedict which came with a side salad as well as the potato pancakes. It was ALL so good.
My husband had the risotto tots which are always amazing. He also had the biscuit and gravy which was also good.
Everything here is fresh and made from scratch. The service was good.
We sat on the patio because it was beautiful out. I loved that they had picnic tables. This is sure to be a go to
spot for brunch.
The good food and vast beer selection is now no longer worth the mismanagement and bad staff. We've tried: it's nearby, it strikes the right menu balance for our family, and on point for price. But the service is terrible. Always. Every time. Preventable mistakes that spoil the evening.
Tonight, at the outset "we're under staffed so we appreciate your patience," said to a 1/4 full room. They were out of a major menu item, announced after the orders went in. The salads were missing a key ingredient. The app was forgotten and then arrived only after the mains.
Once would be a bad night. Twice would be bad luck. Three. Four times of this, it's just bad management. The owners either don't care about their investment or are just that bad at running a restaurant. Fire your Manager. Retrain them. Do something. Either way, there's too many other places, offering too many interesting menus to put up with this.
I'm done. I surrender. I'm tired of it. I won't be back.
Host seated us promptly. Ordered mussels - very small size and void of any flavor. Had to ask wait staff three times for a seafood fork only to find out they did not have one (English should be first language in a restaurant). Server did make a concession and had the chef whip up some sauteed garlic spinach because asparagus not on the menu (although it was on the web menu).
Unfortunately my friends and I didn't have the best experience and it was our first visit. We waited FOREVER for our food. I actually left my table to inform the hostess we were still waiting for our food after placing the order almost 40 minutes earlier. Because we were talking and laughing we hadn't immediately noticed how much time had passed. We were a party of 4 and didn't order anything overly complicated and restaurant wasn't very busy. The food was good and the waitress friendly but she should've been more attentive. We were given a free dessert to share for the inconvenience but the manager never came to our table to apologize.
I have been to Rustico many times. I have sat inside, at the bar and outside. I took a dear friend for lunch/brunch this past Sunday to celebrate her birthday. The food was terrific, as usual, but the service was a little slow. Our waiter was VERY slow in taking our order. He was very slow at refilling our glasses. He was very slow at taking our plates and bringing dessert. And he was very slow at bringing our check. We had to move from our table right across under an umbrella because we were both starting to melt from the sun and the heat. It's one thing to enjoy eating outside, but it's another thing to start to suffer and have the suffering prolonged because our waiter "forgot us." I tipped accordingly. Our server was Thomas M. You definitely want someone else if you are in a hurry! We were there for OVER two hours!
I love Rustico for it's wonderful pizzas and fantastic beer and hard cider selection. My husband is a beer geek, but I love hard cider. It is refreshing to find a restaurant that provides us both with a selection, although there are many more beer options then hard cider.
Rustico is a neighborhood place that offers outdoor seating for a nice day. Menu is quite limited bu they make pretty good thin crust pizza and burgers. Their salads are also nice.
On my most recent visit, the service left a lot to be desired. The server seemed disinterested, rushing about and barely making eye contact. Our salads didn't arrive for quite some time and I noted the next table, who sat down after us, got their entrees before we got them. Then our entrees arrived less than 3 minutes later so no spacing. At least they did, in fact, remake our orders and deliver them at a reasonable pace thereafter.
Overall, best for sitting outside and enjoying the weather with a decent meal.
We go to Rustico almost every week but that is likely to change. The food has gone downhill and tonight the service was really slow. I suspect it was the kitchen and not our server but nevertheless it was crazy slow. The normally reliable Rustico burger was ok but the fries were drowning in grease. My daughter's pizza was terrible. I had to ask for napkins to wipe the oil slick off the top. It was a new low for what has been our neighborhood go to for the last few years. I guess it's time to move on.
The menu Open Table is totally different than inside the restaurant. They were supposed to have woof fish and a filet. They had neither. And the waiter swore the salmon was Alaskan wild caught even though the menu did not specify. I should have known better. But I trusted him and it was terrible!
Had a wonderful server, think he was actually a reservations/ front person named Alan who knew I had hip issues and was so kind and helpful !! My husband and I already love Rustico, but Alan was superb !! Can't wait to have Bruce meet him~ my friends who we brought in June will be back as would my friend last night !
We have been to Rustico numerous times in the past 2 yrs. it is walking distance so we very much want to love Rustico, but sadly we are consistently disappointed. We had reservations, arrived five minutes early and were seated immediately, after that it was all downhill. Restaurant was not busy. Waitress did not show up for 20 mins. People at next table sat down and left while we waited. We we endured. After finally placing a drink order, took much to long to arrive. Ordered 3 meals including 2 burgers. Should be easy. Both burgers resembled hockey pucks complete with burned buns. Beet salad is different every time we go. This time it had no citrus or onions. We want to love this place, but it's getting hard.
We dined outside this time and were presently surprised that the service was excellent. That seems to be a somewhat rare thing at many restaurants, and understandably so, as the distance and doors between you and the kitchen, bar and drink stations is usually considerably longer than those dining inside. I tried a pizza special they were running (prosciutto and arugula). It was fabulous. I enjoy the extensive list of good tap micro brews. They also have an extensive list of bottled beer as well. The wine list is just big enough that my dining partner can find something appetizing as well.
The appetizers of chicken wings were enjoyed by my date, and I absolutely LOVED the Baked Feta dip and pita triangles, (so much so that I brought the unfinished portion home in a doggie bag!) We each ordered burgers, a Mushroom Burger and The Rustico, and were surprised at how quickly they were served and delighted at how perfectly they were cooked and delicious they tasted. We opted for wine rather than beer this trip, but we're looking forward to sampling some of the beers from their extensive beer menu. We definitely will be going back!
We had a bit of a difficult time with a few elements of our meal. We went there because we love the gluten-free crust and I have a low-gluten diet. Unfortunately, although we ordered the chickpea crust, we were delivered a regular crust pizza although we had triple checked with the waitress on the type of crust we wanted. We did assure her we did not have celiacs. The waitress came back to check on us after a while and we notified her of the problem. She promised us a chickpea crust pizza to take home at no charge (which was delicious).
The only other issue was that we sat outside, which was lovely, but a smoker (he may even have been an employee), kept walking upwind of us (pacing between the front of the door of the restaurant and the street corner) and everyone in my party is very sensitive to cigarette smoke. I asked him to move downwind and he did before finishing his cigarette and going back inside.
