About Rustico

Rustico is the quintessential neighborhood pub on the edge of Old Town Alexandria. The menu features seasonal, hearty American fare from a wood-fired oven and grill, including pizzas and rotisserie meats, along with other rustic cuisine using the freshest local ingredients available. There’s also no mistaking Rustico’s love for barley & hops! The bar’s focal point is a custom galvanized inverted T bar with 30 brilliant taps book-ended by two massive coolers holding more than 400 different types of ales, lagers, ciders and stouts.

Everything was fine although we had eaten a quarter of our food and got to go boxes. We left our food on the table to use the restroom and told our waiter we'll be back and when we got back or food was gone.

Great location on the edge of Old Town, Alexandria with a warm, friendly atmosphere. The mosaic decor throughout the restaurant adds an upbeat vibe. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive. The salmon with risotto is wonderful. The two pizzas we ordered were crisp and tasty too; try the pizza with the pulled pork if that's something you might like, you won't be disappointed. The beer menu is, for me, the real winner with approximately 400 beers to select from. I selected a sweet chocolaty malt, followed by tangy Belgium beer. Because we caught the end of happy hour, the bill was extremely reasonable, which made my husband happy.

Great pizza and fabulous salad. Waitstaff quick and attentive. Sad to see the manager visiting tables all around us checking in to see how everything was but not checking on in us. Why? Because we only ordered pizza and salad?? Not good on his part!

First time I remember having to wait for a table when I had a reservation, but ready within the 10 min they predicted. Friend's steak got overcooked first try and manager came out to explain delay - that they were refiring...nice touch. Always enjoy Rustico.

If you are a fan of rare and out of this world craft beer selections look no further. Their beer menu both tap and bottled is extensive. The restaurant is beautiful and their amazing brick oven pizzas pair excellent with their sophisticated dishes and starters. The Hungry Traveler gives it 4.5/5

Just posted this review...will be hitting yelp and others as well. Best regards.

We have been going to this location at least twice a month for at least two years, and the service has always been ok to great...never bad. However, after our last visit, we will never be going back. As always, we had a reservation. It was busy when we walked in the door and we checked in. Then two walk-ins came in and were immediately sat. After that, there were no tables available and we were told it would be 20 minutes.

Now, I worked in the industry for 20 years, and sitting walk-ins ahead of those with a reservation is a big no-no. If a walk-in comes in, the host should first look at the book or computer to see if any reservations are coming up. You can't seat a 4-top walk-in at the only empty table when a 4-top is scheduled to come in 10 minutes. In our case it was worse - we were there and checked in and the walk-ins were still sat before us. Look if you can't handle reservations, don't take them.

Okay, so stuff happens -- the problem is that the response from the host staff was atrocious. Merely saying "honest mistake" and "it's no big deal" and telling us we just needed to wait 20 minutes is unacceptable. The manager was nice enough but appeared to be more of a back of the house guy who could care less as to what is going on out front. They really need someone to watch over the front, especially the host stand. This level of incompetence and disrespect was too much for us to stick around despite your petty offer of free apps. There's just as good or better service and food right around the corner.

Family/friends and I got together for a Sunday brunch. The food was absolutely delicious. We sort of picked and tried off of everyone's plate. The food I was able to try were the donut holes, eggs Benedict, French toast, and the breakfast pizza. Absolutely great dishes.
The service was a bit slow considering it was mostly breakfast items ordered.

Came here for brunch. Food is definitely overpriced. Had chicken and waffles. The waiter said it was a whole chicken breast, but it was not, it was fried pieces of dark meat chicken. It was just ok, not too impressed.

Hostess didn't greet us, but waitress was great. It was my first time there, I tried the beef brisket which was just ok, also had the hot wings which had a good flavor (would've loved them if it were made with organic chicken), and I had the risotto tots which were good. Lastly for dessert I had the cinnamon doughnuts which were great.

Overall good with one exception, did not need to know from the wait staff that the 'kitchen believed the fries are too salty and therefore our food order will delayed'.

This is our go-to place in Alexandria, for a casual pizza and beer night or a multi course meal with wine. The place is perfect for both!

Needed room for 6 in Old Town. A little off the beaten path. A little bit of a TGIF atmosphere, but friendly servers. Slow at first but then service improved. Napkins are folded in a cool style. We had really good truffle fries and autumn salads. Pork was undercooked and so we were not charged for that. Table and seat were clean. Glasses and silverware were clean. Brussels sprouts were tasty.

We were in a bit of a hurry as one of our guests was en route to Reagan to catch a flight. It was hard getting the attention of our server at first, but once we shared that we were on a tight timeline, he was able to expedite our service, food, final bill, etc... Thanks so much for your help and attentiveness.

Rustico in Ballston is one of my favorite neighborhood restaurants, so I was excited to visit the Alexandria location for a big brunch with friends. The service and pizza (and tots!) were excellent as always. However, I was very disappointed with the brunch menu options. The quality and portion size were just not as good as the regular menu options. Steer clear of the tiny Eggs Benedict entree. The biscuit portions were teeny and the smoked salmon was in strange, slimy strips rather than nice, fresh slices that I expected. It is also served with under-dressed mixed greens (not even a side salad with any veggies - literally just lettuce), which made me majorly envious of everyone else's fries.

I still love this place for the pizza, appetizers (especially the carrot hummus!), and burgers. But I'll probably stick to the lunch side of the brunch menu from now on.

We have gone to Rustico in Alexandria for birthdays and a good meal for several years, but this was very disappointing. The food and beer selections were as good as they always have been, but the service was terrible. It could be that they were shorthanded, but our server was particularly bad. There were mistakes on the initial orders and it took more than one hour for the main courses to appear. They must have been sitting in the litchen for a while because they were all cool. It also took a while to get the check. We will return, hoping that the service has improved.

Our party of 5 was pleased with the food. However I simply cannot recommend this restaurant due to the horrible service. And it wasn't simply isolated with our waiter. Service at the bar for drinks prior to dinner was terrible. The bartender was not pleasant or attentive. When seated, the manager came by for an initial drink order. Twenty minutes later we had to ask him for a status update. It was another 20 minutes before our sever came by for his initial introduction.

I am a regular at Rustico. I often eat there after church. I love that I don't have to pay for parking and the service and food are good without being too expensive. The food is fresh and the menu will vary based on the season.

Without a doubt, every time I come to Rustico I always have to have the carrot and lamb hummus - you would make a mistake by going without ordering it! Everything I've ever had at this restaurant has been excellent, without fail, and it's always been worth the visit. Because Rustico touts a brick-oven, their pizza is also way above average. A great neighborhood gem!
