I had lunch at Rustico this week for the first time. I ordered a spinich salad which included several interesting ingrediants. Overall the salad was tasty however it appeared to have been dressed and allowed to sit for a while before being served. Much of the spinich was pretty wilted as was my enthusiasm for it upon its arrival.
However, the blood orange sorbet was excellent!
I will try Rustico again and hope for fresher results.
We went for the extensive beer menu and were not disappointed. We had the sausage and pepper pizza which was good. The service was a bit slow.
I thought the beer menu was outstanding and the Confit Duck pizza was amazing. The Carrot Hummus and Lamb apetizer was also great. I really enjoyed the experience.
Frequent visitor to Rustico when in the DC Metro area...I've been coming here for several years now and I can't say enough about the food. Fantastic selection of beer and the service has always been top notch. Only complaint was the inside temperature of 85 degrees...Not exactly a relief from venturing out in DC during 90 degree weather...But besides that, always a pleasure.
My wife and I had been wanting to try this place for a while. We finally went. We should have gone sooner. My wife had the salmon. She enjoyed the dish but for the price it could have included a little more salmon. I had the Italian Sausage Pizza. It was excellent. I highly recommend trying their pizza. The service was excellent. The restaurant was accommodating as after we booked the reservations, my daughter decided she wanted to come last min. The host got us another table for three in a very short period. The drinks were awesome and the atmosphere was great. We will come back again.
Good Service but did not have many vegetarian menu items
The pizzas are the best around.....love the mosaic walls. They make the space very inviting.
This was a perfect choice for meeting up with our former neighbors. The multiple draft and bottled beer options lead to lively conversation, and the food choices are varied and inviting. You can't beat the wood-fired pizza's - my friend said it was the best pizza she ever ate! (Being a NY native - I won't go THAT far, but it is definitely very, very good!!). Nice ambiance.
This was our first time at Rustico. They started by pouring water and leaving the picture. That was a good start on a hot day. The menu had lots of appealing options, and we ordered the tater tot appetizer and Caesar salad. The tots with the sauce were very good. The Caesar was a bit bland. The carbonara pasta and salmon main courses were very good and flavorful. The biggest downfall of the night was the service. My wife ordered a second glass of wine that never appeared and we waited almost 20 minutes after we were done eating before the server stopped by so we could ask for the check. Fortunately the second glass of wine was not on the bill.
We liked the food enough to that we will give the place another chance on the service.
My wife and I came for the newly tapped Derecho beer from Port City brewery. It was really good and we enjoyed the food as well. We had the crispy meatballs and spicy chicken pizza. Plus on top of it all, they had a happy hour that lasted until 7 on a Saturday! Bonus! We will definitely be back for awesome craft pizza and beer.
My husband and I had brunch at Rustico on Saturday. We had made a reservation and arrived early, but the person who greeted us at the door said it was no problem and promptly seated us immediately. She was very friendly, courteous and professional. Our server was at our table within 5 minutes from then and also very friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and courteous. I had the Italian and pepperoni pizza and my husband had the spicy chicken pizza. Both were served to us fairly quickly and tasted excellent! We will definitely come back to Rustico again!!
The bartenders are knowledgeable and friendly. The food is great and always consistent. The beer list is nicely categorized and covers a broad spectrum. I need to keep a list so I can work through them all, over time.
I held it at 4 stars due to the sound level. It's just the high ceilings but it's tough to have a conversation.
We brought friends from Australia here after reading reviews for this restaurant. We were late due to heavy rain and called ahead to advise them. They were very nice and accommodating. When we arrived they promptly seated us as our table was ready and waiting. We were greeted and promptly served. Our orders were taken quickly and efficiently. We ordered appetizers and pizzas to share. Everything was hot and very good. The presentation was wonderful. The appetizers were unique and tasted wonderful. The pizza is very light and the toppings are perfect. The only negative I think is that everyone was talking it was very loud as they have a high ceiling with no wall breaks, but having said that, it made it seem very festive.
I had the egg plant parmigiana & it was okay at best. The beer menu was fantastic though, but the best selections were in either bottles or cans, not on tap.
New server and a trainee (oh no!!) but they were great. Asked why they don't have the home made kettle chips on the menu as a starter anymore and they siad they were new and they must only be for sides with burgers, etc. In a few minutes they brought out a small plate anyway - liked that right away. Pizza is always very good. Beer menu is one of the best in the area. Tend to like eating earlier before the crowds and tight parking in the area make this more challenging.
Unwilling to drive far out of our way for the pizza/beer we were craving, we decided to give Rustico another chance.
It was a success! We had much better service this visit, the temperature in the dining area was approaching reasonable, (still on the chilly side, but not nearly as bad as the last several visits) and the food was delicious. We were happy to see they brought back the risotto 'tater' tots which we enjoyed along with the stuffed dates. We shared and very much liked the ham & asparagus pizza.
Added bonus: They currently have Devil's Backbone Schwartbier on tap. Best. Beer. Ever.
Everything was delicious! Pizzas were excellent, appetizers were great. The pizzas are big! Be warned! But very, very tasty. Plus sister restaurant Buzz Bakery is next door, so you can pick up some treats for the next day.
It's a really good neighborhood restaurant but also worth the drive. The food is good and creative. The wine and beer list is exceptional and the service is always great. The decor is inspired but the acoustics makes is a little tough to have a conversation at normal voice levels.
We loved the ambiance, but the service was a little slow. The chick pea based gluten free pizza was disappointing--not even as good as a frozen brand we buy. Salads and gluten free beer were good. I'd like to try the place again, but will probably order something different.
I have been to Rustico many times before and have always bragged about the duck pizza. However, I was disappointed this last visit because the recipe seems to have been changed. I seem to remember it with just cheese and garlic. Figs were too plentiful which made the pizza too sweet and the duck was dry. It seems to be a trend everywhere I go to put arugula on pizza and it simply does not work. It makes the pizza harder to eat because it it not chopped and has no texture or value added to the flavor.
At our first visit we were very impressed by Rustico. The top dish was homemade meatballs as an appetizer- spicy blend of meats, clearly homemade, with fresh sauce and cheese. We also had the special pizza w peaches and a pork belly slider. We cleared each plate. Our server Pascuale was attentive and had some personality. Cannot wait to return.
Food mediocre, noise obnoxious, service second rate.
This is one of my very favorite places in the GW area!!
Awesome Beer selection... Staff is always on point!!
Not to mention the great food!! I do miss the mac and cheese they used to have as an appetizer :(
But it was nice to have a change!!!
I can't say enough good things about this place!!!
Great location for lunch with friends.
I always book my lodging in Alexandria when I'm in town just so I can go to Rustico. Expansive and special draught list (including cask ales) and some really delicious pizza, made exactly to order!
Boston Bibb Lettuce salad is wonderful - so fresh and tasty! - Hamburger and French Fries were very good but guess I just wasn't in the mood for what I chose. - I think that, for the most part, the food is delicious and very innovative.
Amazing menu... creative, very unique and inspired. I had the Boston Bibb Salad with chicken and honestly felt like returning the same night to have it again - it was THAT good. Rustico is now one of my new favorites!
The food was incredible and service was wonderful. The price got a little high for a young profesional's brunch budget, but the mimosas were worth it.
I love rather used to love Rustico. It's a fun spot, creative menu, wonderful wall art, fantastic if not overwhelming beer selection. BUT, the food was so salty, some of the other food was so sugary and the salads were so over dressed that it was too much to talk to the poor waiter about. Why not let us salt our own food? Lots of US hypertension. Why not back off the sugar- lots of diabetes. Dress our own salads or dress it lightly and offer a side of extra dressing if you choose? Lots of heart disease... Just saying... Might only come back for the beer next time. Then again, I had to go across the steer for my cappacino and was told many people do that and bring them back to the restaurant. Hmmmm
Lots of tasty choices, great beer selection, and very supportive of our friend's gluten intolerance with gluten-free pizza and gluten-free versions of most everything on the menu. We enjoyed it!
Great beer list, $2 off drafts during happy hour....food is....eclectic in my opinion....the pizzas are not your run of the mill pizza....I found the pie was great, however, the wife didnt and ended up ordering a kid's cheese pizza for herself....
We had the meatball appetizer and it was outstanding. The pizza is incredible and the beer list is pretty impressive. Overall a great time had at a fun restaurant with good food and good service!
Nice warm, friendly service -- which is often NOT the case when you come in with two young kids. Great doughnuts too! Very enjoyable, kid friendly but really nice food and beverages.
I should've requested a booth when making the reservation. We were given a table right up front so as diners entered the restaurant, they inadvertently hovered right over us, making for at times an uncomfortable meal. We asked if we could move, but alas, it was Mother's Day and all the booths and tables were already reserved. The waitress was great at trying to keep us happy, but she didn't hear our drink request and instead brought the check. A disappointing experience. We've had pleasant experiences at Rustico in the past so will chalk this one up to a lesson learned - request a particular table upon reservation.
I visited Rustico after work with some friends and it was great for sharing some appetizers, pizza, and pasta and having a few glasses of wine. Love the mosaics made of shattered pottery and bottles! It's a really cute place, and our server could not have been more helpful and patient. No problem lingering for as long as you like.
Rustico was a great find. The decor is attractive and bright, and the food excellent. I recommend the Boston Bibb salad-- crisp, fresh leaves with just the right amount of dressing, cheese and pecans. Very nice lunch.
Nice place. Great pizza! If you're a beer lover, you won't tire of the selection. Our server was cordial, and she provided a pleasant "privacy vs. attention" ration - checking on us without popping by every 5 minutes. Great place to unwind after work.
Excellent Beer list! Great for a group, and great outdoor seating. It took a little while to get started with everything but we were a large group so that is to be expected. The pizza was a great hit for us.
Great beer selection! Went for brunch: Server was very friendly and helpful. The mac and cheese wasn't that great, but the biscuit sliders and sweet potato skins were awesome.
Rustico is perhaps my favorite restaurant in the DC area. The food is superb and they have an extensive range of excellent beers. I highly recommend it with one caveat: The restaurant is extremely loud. There have been times where I could not hear my dinner companions over the din from the bar and from neighboring diners. It's an energetic atmosphere which may appeal to some, but if you want a quiet romantic dinner, then look elsewhere (or eat outside, weather permitting).
