Rustic Kitchen - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
I went here to catch up with some friends over dinner, and the atmosphere was great for that. The tables were spaced fairly well and seemed to be built so that you didn't really notice who else was there. No need to worry that our private jokes would be overheard or misinterpreted.
The food was quite good (and cooked perfectly), though the menu is pretty limited and fairly traditional. The staff was attentive, but also good at giving us our space while we caught up. There's a pretty big bar area as well if you're looking to catch up over drinks.
Great food, nice cocktail menu and wine list, friendly and helpful servers. Plenty of menu options and lots of seating so definitely a good option for a group. We went before a show at the Wilbur and got our food in plenty of time to enjoy our meal (even though we'd cut it a bit close ourselves).
I reserved a spot at this restaurant before attending Boston Calling. I should have known better. My boyfriend and I grew up with Italian families, so it takes a lot to impress us if you're going to make a pasta based dish. I often don't even order these dishes out (nothing compares to my mom's sauce). The food was mediocre for the price paid. We honestly would've been better off going to a fast-food place. (We didn't grow up with fast food, so we're more likely to enjoy this!)
That said, I don't want to give Rustic Kitchen an entirely bad review. All of the wait staff was highly attentive. The decor was soothing yet unique. And the general atmosphere of the place was lovely.
Everything was very good, my only complaint was that one person our party orded the Hanger steak and because she ordered it medium well it ended up being too chewy for her to eat more than a few bites At the end of the meal I did bring this to the attention of our server and she seemed to basically just consider it a learning opportunity on our part and offered us nothing beyond that little lesson
Rustic Kitchen is one of my favorite restaurants in Boston. The wait staff is always amazing and they are always so accommodating. The food is wonderful - especially the Mac and Cheese and just about every appetizer. The drink menu is fun and there is something for everybody.
We visited Rustic Kitchen before a show and found it to be a very romantic spot with ample room between tables so as not to be disturbed by other diners. The staff were pleasant and the food was very good. The eggplant involtini and Caesar Salad and Sauce Bolognese was delicious. We didn't order dessert as we were so full after splitting the above mentioned. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Had a really excellent meal at Rustic Kitchen before a show that night. We told the waitress we were on a bit of a schedule and they were very attentive to us. The food was outstanding. We all ended up getting a different fish dish and all three were cooked perfectly and the presentations, flavors, accompanying vegetables, portion sizes, etc. were all just about perfect. I highly recommend Rustic Kitchen - we will be back.
This was my 4th or 5th time at Rustic Kitchen and it just keeps getting better. My dining partner and I had a hard time deciding what to order. The menu has a great variety of interesting choices- just enough, not too many. We opted to order our favorite dishes- crab stuffed haddock (real lump crab!) and pasta with shrimp, capers etc. My friend ordered the pasta gluten free and said it was the best she'd ever had. We splurged for dessert and had grapefruit sorbet.. 3 huge scoops.. a perfect ending to another outstanding meal.
Fine mid tier restaurant. Should be compared with other like restaurants. Open Table needs to categorize restaurants better. We booked based on reviews and the menu but overall it wasn't what we were looking for. It's a 3 star restaurant that would rate 4 stars against like restaurants.
We ate here before a 7:30 show and we were not disappointed. We started with drinks, beer and my pear martini was really good. For food we ordered the spring roll appetizer, the baked stuffed haddock and the diver scallops. Everything was incredible. I will have dreams about the diver scallops and mushroom risotto!
The staff left a little to be desired, got the job done...but not super friendly.
We chose this restaurant because it was in the theater district and because we had theater tickets for 5 pm and wanted to dine prior to the show. Many restaurants didn't serve until after 5 pm. We had a wonderful time and the food was wonderful. The seafood tower for one was only $24 and it had 3 of every type of seafood: oysters, shrimp, lobster claws (2) and more. We were very impressed by the culinary presentation and flavors. They even have a cooking show on Friday nights that we will be sure to check out some time!
Appears to be three restaurants in one - the bar area (which is large), the dining room, and the on-air studio. We ate in the ding room. We split the Harvest Salad (roasted squash, kale, cranberries) which was wonderful and dressed to perfection. My wife got the speghattini, which was very good but need a little extra 'oomph' (more garlic?). I ordered the ahi tuna, and it was outstanding, served over wasabi mashed potatoes. Service is friendly and unpretentious, and the decor is quite cool!
We enjoyed an excellent meal here. The quality and flavors were top-notch. The diver scallops were wonderfully paired with a mushroom risotto. The flavors blended well. Service was friendly and attentive. The bar room dining was a little crowded but the service and fabulous food more than made up for the cramped feeling of sitting next to the bar. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
I made a reservation based on reviews I read. When we arrived early for our reservation we enjoyed a drink at the bar . The bartenders were pleasant.
The restaurant was a bit less crowded than I like so I was wondering that maybe it wasn't as good as reviewed . When we ordered with a very nice waitress, everything was delicious. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
I rarely will give a restaurant such a superlative review as it should be reserved for the truly special. That said, the Rustic Kitchen is an amazing restaurant. Their menu is innovative, the food is outstanding, the pricing is fair and the portions are large. Although we are from out-of -town we will certainly visit the Rustic Kitchen the next time in Boston.
Rushed here after Boston marathon for delicious lunch before heading to airport.
Was surprised it was not jam packed with runners. The salmon dish was one of the best I've had. Very convenient to the parking garage and our hotel. Appreciated that they did not
say anything about still being dressed in running attire.
Was in town to run the Boston marathon and wanted a place to have a pasta dinner the night before. They had a "special" menu to include pasta which is why I made reservations here. The portion was small, pasta overcooked, marinara sauce thick all for a hefty price of $24. Perhaps pasta is not a typical menu item for the Rustic Kitchen, but if you are going to offer it, make it good and if not, then at least make it cheaper!
The menu was limited due to the Boston Marathon weekend. This was very disappointing, because my restaurant selection was based on viewing the menu online. Things that we planned on ordering were not available that evening. There should have been a warning about this on their website, or at least at the time of reservation.
Otherwise, the service was excellent, and the food was good.
I have eaten at the Rustic Kitchen a few times before and have always enjoyed it, but it has been several years, so maybe they are not so good anymore? ...Maybe it was just a bad night.
We sat at the bar for a light supper. We ordered the mussels, which were good. We also ordered the Mozzarella salad, said to be local mozzarella. The salad looked beautiful, but was flavorless. That was disappointing, but the worst part of the evening was the service......it just wasn't there. The bar was only 1/2 full, but the bartenders seemed distracted and paid no attention....Not such a good experience this time.
