The food was very good. We felt we were a bit misled about how much to order (too much). When it's all about sharing, some plates are more filling than others and the best servers do a good job of explaining that and helping with decisions. But I would go back now that I can judge for myself.
I was At the restaurant a year ago and really enjoyed the food. Was disappointed this time wasn't impressed by the main coarse options.
Everything was excellent except the fact they forgot it was my partners birthday after calling then twice to remind them 2 days prior.
Gr at variety of dishes styles and flavors. Attentive service not intrusive. I ter sting cocktails and wines
the ricotta dumplings and the chicken were very good but the service was not as attentive for fine dining.
Had the pre-fix menu on New Years Eve. A perfect 8 course meal with wine pairing. Not a bad dish served and pairings were perfect. Favorite dishes were the Pâté, Poached Oysters, and Root Vegetable Au Gratin, and Bananas Foster.
Experience was top notch BUT we were there on NYE and I don't believe OpenTable communicated that it was a $125 Prix Fixe menu. The app DID require a credit card to hold the reservation so felt a bit lured in.
A wondrous tasting menu on New Years Eve is what drew us in. We were celebrating our 25 anniversary and wished to do so quietly, thoughtfully and with flavor luxury. Rustic Canyon's service held us very gently, with kindness and care. The options on the menu were many and wondrous. And--bowing with thanks to the kitchen--despite being a tasting menu, servings were generous: fun and easy to share without feeling sad you're not getting enough yourself! Plus the wine pairings: inspired and helped us to meet some new things we haven't tried before, which is always fun. LOVE. THIS. PLACE. [PS: Pozole, Pozole, Pozole.]
Excellent attention to detail in food, service and wine pairing. Highly recommended. A special, "night out" experience.
Delicious food, but our server was terrible. Luckily, the other fellow servers picked up his slack.
Wonderful food and service. Love the tapas-type menu.
Excellent menu. Service delay between mains was lengthly.
Second time at Rustic Canyon, and it was as wonderful as the first. The menu is diverse and surprising, the food is exceptional--creative without being overly challenging. My friend chose a polenta dish that had the two of us swooning, and I'm no polenta fan. The staff is lovely: friendly, exceedingly helpful and enthusiastic, but never intrusive. It's a warm, relaxed and delicious experience, from start to finish.
Food was generally good and unique , but noise level was out of control , it was hard to have a conversation with friends sitting across the table.
Ordered the porky chop, probably the best I've eaten. Endive salad was excellent as well
Great find in SM! We love it and will return
Every dish we ordered was absolutely perfect, the way an expensive dinner should be.
Truly an exceptional meal. Our server was helpful and each course that came out was a blend of extraordinary flavors. The food was different and inventive and ever so tasty. Lovely, clean lined decor and plenty of space between tables. Wow!
Gotta try the honeycomb "ice cream"! It's ethereal.
Perfect place to celebrate a birthday! Great food and service.
Superb food. We loved the dumplings and the duck breast! Wonderful chicory salad. Excellent wine choices. Expensive, but worth it for an occasion.
The entrees were next level cooking. In particular, the roasted chicken with creamy polenta was out of this world - savored every bite!
Great food and service! We love it here. It's always tough choosing what to order because EVERYTHING is amazing!
Our dinners were amazing! Great experience
I always think of RC in the fall, as I (for some reason) think more about eating seasonally then, and they did not disappoint. After getting some suggestions from our friendly and helpful server, we split the lavender almonds, an endive salad, a delicious spicy chicken stew, the cauliflower (slightly overcooked but still tasty), the duck, and (for dessert) the griddled brioche, and we enjoyed it all. PS - The wooden chairs get a bit uncomfortable over time, so try to get a booth -- think those seats are cushioned.
Food was good as always.
Way too noisy--difficult to talk.
Tables in middle are not good when restaurant is crowded. Acoustics
Are bad. Only good on side, back
Or in booth. Could not carry on conversation.
Everything was very good, but there was one thing that kind of spoiled the evening. IT WAS SO COLD. I told the to turn off the AC and they did (for 10 minutes, and then it was on again)
I had my jacket on the hole evening. I will probably not return again, I hate freezing.
Noisy, but if your priority is outstanding food I highly recommend it. We were a party of four, and every single thing we ordered had us in awe.
MY HUSBAND AND I WENT TO RUSTIC CANYON ON A LAST MIN DATE NIGHT!! THE SERVICE WAS SO GREAT! FOOD WAS AMAZING! SO UNIQUE AND EVERYTHING WAS FANTASTIC. THE WINE LIST IS WONDERFUL!! GREAT SPOT!!!
The food was good, but very pricey. The portions were tiny.
Delicious food, pleasant service, on the pricey side and really expensive glass of wine!
Limited menu selection and very slow service.
We had a party of four - our first course came out 20 minutes after ordering AT DIFFERENT times. Two of us got our appetizers at the same time, then the 3rd one came 10 minutes later. The last appetizer was served after the 3 of us finished our food. Poor timing from the kitchen!!!
We waited for another 25 minutes before we got our main dish. The manager came by to apologize for the slow service...but did not do anything extra (e.g. complimentary dessert or side dish, etc.) to compensate for their inadequacy.
It is a very nice restaurant, some of the dishes were very good and some not so much...
They had two dishes that were gone already by the time we've been there.
we came with vegetarian friends, so we ended up ordering all the vegetarian options in the menu (beside the cheese plate), for 4 people, we needed to repeat two dishes to satisfied our belly :)
I hadn't been to Rustic Canyon in many months and had forgotten just how good it is. We went pretty deep on the menu and ate way too much but everything was expertly prepared. Still thinking of homemade pasta with mushrooms....
Overall very good! We had the focaccia with burrata, Pazole, duck, lamb sausage, polenta and a passion fruit tart dessert.
Only feedback Id say is the rice with the duck was too salty, and the lamb sausage wasnt that great. Otherwise I was a big fan!
very disappointing and we tried 3 times but I have found the LA times restaurant critic unreliable
Best meal I have ever had - food was incredible - great service and nice ambiance - only drawback is that it is very loud - but the food is so good that it overcomes the noise factor. The broccoli and braised greens had an amazing and savory flavor - the salmon was cooked perfectly - the potato purée and snap peas were a wonderfully tasty combination. I loved it!
Great food and service in cool neighborly setting. I loved it.
So much better than I remember. Service and food were excellent. Quality of ingredients unmatched. Noise level is high, must shout to be heard.
My husband and I ate at Rustic Canyon with some friends this last weekend. We shared the chicken, which was outstanding, the pork, a side of polenta, broccoli, the beet salad, and a bread and burrata dish. We shared the honeycomb ice cream and the macadamia nut brittle ice cream (also outstanding). Everything was delicious, the service was warm and prompt, and the ambiance was casual, woodsy, and welcoming.
