Nice place and friendly staff. I would say that treated me very well.
Good food and nice setting, but it was hard to hear my friend talk and service was friendly but slow. This was on a Friday evening.
I love Russia and it was like walking into Russia. Friendly, cosy. And I liked the Vysotski music! But the food was a disappointment. May wife and concluded we could have done better at home.
Food was excellent. Tables were crowded together and the decor was dated and a little tired.
A limited menu means everything is delicious. I got to try the chicken Kiev and beef stroganoff. The beef was the best dish of that I've ever had. Cocktails were terrific. The table was tiny for the two of us fat Americans. Service was fast and it was a unique atmosphere. Definitely make a reservation if you're planning on going. And if you're drinking expect a large, but well worth it tab
Outstanding ambiance! How a wonderful dinner! Will experience again!
We went here for Valentine's Day. Overall, the service was really bad. We waited an hour past our reservation time, some of our dishes were cold, and we never got the amuse bouche that was included in the $65 pre-fixe, despite asking our server for it. Not the biggest deal, but it was frustrating given the high cost of dinner. Most of the food was really good, the cocktails came out super fast, and it had a nice ambience. I think it was just an off day and they might have been understaffed. I would go back and I would recommend this place, but I wouldn't recommend going on a high volume holiday.
Good food, but I had to wait 45min for my table to be ready. Although they were operating way behind schedule, I thought the food was worth it and they provided complimentary glasses of champagne while waiting.
We went for Valentine's Day dinner because it used to be a cozy and somewhat romantic place last time we were there a few years ago. It seemed that they way overbooked for the prefix dinner they were serving (which they did not mention when I asked about a "special" dinner for the holiday).
They shrunk the size of the restaurant area which is a pity, it used to be a nice place. Now the tables are way too close together to call the place romantic. The tables are also right on top of the entry door so you get a blast of cold air when people enter or leave.
In the end we had a very well prepared appetizer, however the server forgot to put in our dinner order and after an hour wait we left. We will not be returning.
I would have given 5 stars overall, except for the lack of a true waiting area. The restaurant is downstairs now and very crowded. What was previously the restaurant upstairs is now converted to a little hotel. Food and service is excellent. The owners are nothing but First rate and First class. Will definitely go back again.
Great place. Too cramped. Good food. Expensive. It was worth a lot but I'm not sure it was worth quite as much as we paid. However it was a special occasion and I don't regret it.
Fun night with a few delays.
Mediocre food, terrible service, very loud
Good food. A bit on the heavy side. I'd eat there again.
Great service. Fantastic tasting food. Music was a bit loud in the dining area, but otherwise, great atmosphere.
Food was delicious, cocktails were so-so. Vodka flight is a crowd pleaser. We were squished into a tiny table near a fire place and it was quite uncomfortable, but restaurant was packed on a Saturday night so couldn't move tables. Overall, I think it's a good place, but do consider it quite pricey compared to Mari Vanna, which I consider equally good quality food.
The food just wasn’t that good
Good good, music turned up too loud, had to wait a long time for the check
Excellent vodka martini. Poor wine selection. Staff not aware of decanting wine. Lamb entree was OK. Staff was responsive and tried hard.
Our family of five had dinner here this past Saturday. What a treat! The decor is Imperial Russian style, so you feel like royalty (in a fun way) walking in and being seated. The vodka sampler is a must. If you don’t like odia, never great, as they have an extensive wine and champagne list, as well s as cocktails, The caviar and blini were divine, as was the chicken Kiev and beef stroganoff. The pilmenye were just the right level of tender, and their mushroom sauce was out of this world. Seriously, this is one awesome restaurant. It is not cheap if you order a complete 3-course dinner, but they are invested in quality. We try to make it back at least twice yearly, and it never disappoints! I highly recommend Russia House.
Absolutely loved our experience! Lots of fun and great food!
Groups reunion dinner
Me and my friend had a great time at the Russia House. The food and drinks were great, the service was amazing, waiting time wasn't bad at all. Im really glad we went to try it out as we only stayed in Washington for one evening.
We arrived a little late and they graciously seated us anyway. The food was hot, freshly made and delicious!
One of the worst meals we had all week. It was sad since Russia House was routinely one of our favorite stops when we are in town. However, this trip included being out of caviar. A Russian restaurant with no caviar?! The beef in the stroganoff was tough and grisly. The chicken Kiev squirted with fat when I cut into it. It was mediocre, at best. Not all the wines were available and unfortunately, there are way too many excellent restaurants in DC to make a return visit.
Great food, nice atmosphere, perfect for a date or a business meeting or a date. Highly recommended
Great introduction to traditional Russian cuisine, especially from the appetizer offerings. The Georgian white was crisp and invigorating.
Great food! Awesome server staff. Really quiet but we went on a Sunday evening. We didn't want to eat big portions so the dining staff accommodated us with splitting dishes.
Vodka options are interesting and very good. We ordered a variety of dishes and enjoyed every one. This was our second visit, and we were not disappointed as it was just as good as the first time.
Service was wonderful, food was fantastic! We will be back! Thank you!
Quality dining with very friendly service, but don't come if you're in a rush as the food preparation time is long (European versus American speed).
Excellent in every way. Perfect place to eat and drink
This was the best prepared authentic Russian dinner ever enjoyed by my wife and me. Our server was genuinely charming and efficient. While the decision on where to sit was a bit of a conflict, with every space as enticing as the next, we opted to park upstairs and were not disappointed. Doing so brought us closer to the bar where bottles of "real" Vodka graced the shelves and Russian pop music emanated at just the right volume, flawlessly transporting us from our capital to another. Hats off to management and the owners for making sure their narrow niche in a city flooded with international cuisine, remains appropriately occupied by Russia House!
An enjoyable evening with great service. The borscht and blinis were excellent. The beef filet good but ordinary. The verenigue were good but the black truffle sparse in flavor
Good vodka selection, the flights were nice. Food was average at best. Service was good
We love this place. For a special birthday celebration our group of ten has the small private room downstairs. It’s perfect.
Food was good.
Great meal and service, it's one of my favorites when visiting the area.
Service was slow.. Ordered champagne.. I had to go Downstairs to ask the wine list because there was no staff on the second floor. After some time server finally came and got the order. it took half an hour to get it and then it was not what we ordered.. they didn’t have a bottle we wanted.. so we just asked the check and left. Food was ok, I guess service could make the experience better but definitely didn’t. Won’t come back.
