About Russia House
Nestled on the corner of Connecticut and Florida Avenues, this inspired Russian restaurant and lounge is evocatively reminiscent of the era of the Tsars. The Russian-European elegance of the Russia House offers a uniquely warm and comfortable meeting place for anyone appreciative of its friendly and intimate coziness. It is the perfect meeting place for the true Washington socialite. The Russian-infused intercontinental cuisine pleases the most refined palate with such nouveau-traditional entrees as the Beef Stroganoff and the Chicken Kiev. Further true to tradition, the Russia House features an impressive selection of caviars and one of the largest vodka collections in Washington, D.C.

Russia House Ratings and Reviews
Loved Russia House!! Went with my daughter who has spent time in Russia and was craving Russian food. It was a freezing night, and the warm ambiance of the cozy restaurant hit the spot. There was a gas fire in our 6 table room. Red Velvet cocktail was delicious, as were the pelmeni with mushroom sauce, the chicken Kiev and the pierogi. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed ger classic Baltika beer, and her Beluga vodka (which looked like a large shot). Food is adjusted for American taste - I thought it was delicious. Our server was super nice and explained all the offerings. It was a thoroughly lovely evening.
My wife and were in town on a combination of business and pleasure. We chose Russia House for dinner because it was close to our hotel. We were not disappointed: excellent good and service, with a nice romantic ambience, and quiet enough for us to converse normally. We highly recommend Russia House for dinner.
The Russia house certainly is a superb find in DC.
Excellent menu representing the best of Russian cuisine. Unmatched cocktails and excellent ambiance make for a memorable evening.
We celebrated my wife’s birthday here and she thoroughly enjoyed herself as did I.
Food is priced somewhat high but the presentation and ingredients to warrant the cost. Appetizers are excellent but portions are on the smaller side in my opinion.
Entrees are similar but ingredients are hearty and rich so the food is filling.
Service was impeccable as was the timing of the food. Cocktails and vodka menu are unmatched in the area trust me on this.
Overall it’s well worth the cost and the elegant decor makes you feel like you’re truly in a regal setting.
The restaurant did not have a working A/C in the dining area (windows were not allowed to be opened), and the bar was way to noisy for a business meeting. I wish the restaurant could have reached out to me prior the visit to alert about technical issues they were facing at that time.
Wonderful food; great wines from a part of the world with which most people wouldn't be familiar. Very quiet for those who want to be able to hear what their dinner partners are saying! The service is very attentive without smothering the diner. We felt as though we could have had the table all evening without being pushed out the door.
Will dine here again!
Air conditioning wasn't working, which is pretty tragic when it's August in DC, and they tried to seat us downstairs where it was muggiest, but eventually agreed to let us sit at a table upstairs where they had a window unit A/C running and it was much cooler. No idea why they were forcing people into the hot basement. I'm sure the A/C was just a fluke, but just puzzling that they weren't seating people where it was actually cool.
Food and drink were great though, and our waitress was outstanding!!
We chose Russia House because Mari Vanna had no reservations left, but it had very good reviews so we were hopeful for fun celebratory birthday dinner. First impression was not great because -- at 7:45 pm on a Friday night -- we walked in and it seemed that No One was there. Not a good sign. We liked our semi-private little room, and the waitperson was superb and took wonderful care of us. We felt the prices were a smidge high (maybe 10%) but otherwise had a nice evening and the food was good. But it feels dated and out of favor -- the ambiance was lacking. It needs to retain a Russian sense of warmth but in an updated way. We much prefer Mari Vanna and will go back there.
Every time we have eaten at Russia House, the meal has been wonderful. It's a great place to go for dinner with friends, birthday dinners or business dinners. It's also very close to DuPont Circle Metro so easily accessible. We had 3 appetizers, 3 entrees and 2 non-alcoholic drinks for under $135.
My vodka martini was large, delicious, and well priced. But the Chicken Kiev had no butter and was borderline dry; I'm sure it was not prepared fresh. Partner's Moscow Mule was "too sweet" and stroganoff was "OK." Pierogi starters were meh. So we covered all the Russian "classics" and were disappointed, except for the martini. Overall price, even with the Sunday night 3-course prix-fixe, was high for the experience.
This was not a pleasant experience. Russian Disco Music blaring, only "flavored" vodka available during happy Hour? Ordered gravlax for 1st course which arrived with main course long after the vodka was gone and the wine was less than stellar!!! Yikes, where's a good Russian Restaurant when you need it???
