About Russia House Restaurant - Herndon
Set in historic Herndon, the Russia House Restaurant offers Russian hospitality and culinary excellence in all its details. The restaurant opened in July of 1992 by the friendly owners Ali and Homeyra Darugar, and together they created an atmosphere of aristocratic dining with classic cuisine, with the warm feeling that you are dining at your aristocratic grandmother’s table. Mrs. Darugar moved from Russia with her grandparents to Switzerland, where she learned to cook in her grandmother’s kitchen. She brought her great culinary talents here to the United States and created the exquisite menu and served as the head chef in the first few years the restaurant was opened. The restaurant features Russian, Continental and Georgian cuisine with a French flair.

Russia House Restaurant - Herndon Ratings and Reviews
Rare to write a review where you can praise the superb cuisine, exemplary service, and have little to no critique or recommendations for improvement. Quiet atmosphere with standard reserved restaurant decor sports bright political and religious paintings. Staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. The food is superb! Begin by enjoying one of specialty vodka's. Accompany it with the Zakuski Platter and its assortment of flavors from rich and salty, to soft and creamy or crispy, to sweet and mellow. The snails are a must have with extra bread for dipping. The filet mignon with Bearnaise Sauce done medium-well is flavorful and tender. The Myaso Po-tartarsky is spectacular with complexity of complimentary flavors. Deserving of its 5 stars!
Absolutely amazing experience as always. Went for Mother's Day and had a great time. It was not overly busy, and the staff gave us a very warm, personal experience. In addition, the food was soooo tasty! I went with my family as a party of 5, and we all have varying taste, yet we all completely loved the food that we ordered. All of our plates were empty and our stomachs full. We can't wait to go back!!!
The owners are very hands-on in terms of greeting customers and ensuring that your needs are met. They know the importance of providing a great eating experience and meet this expectation on a regular basis with their customers. A unique restaurant in Herndon, Va that provides the best of Russian dining and unique Russian cocktails. The price is very reasonable for the service and quality. My family looks forward to our visits to this great restaurant.
I live in North Carolina as do my parents. We are all former residents of Northern Virginia. We traveled north this year to spend Easter Sunday with my son -- they offered to treat us to dinner at the Russia House because they had eaten there several times before. We were not disappointed at all. The service, food, ambiance and decor were great. I think it would be a nice place for small to medium reception.
As always, great food and outstanding service. Juja kabob, alexander steak, rack of lamb, filet, steak nicholeina. All were prepared exactly as ordered. American sturgeon caviar was very good. And then desert...chocolate mousse, creme caramel, cream puffs with chocolate sauce. Couldn't have been better. Another thing I like is we never are rushed here. The owners are magnificent, gracious and always have good suggestions. Thanks!
I have been visiting Russia House for over 15 years now and have ALWAYS had an excellent meal and service. We take special friends and out of town guests to Russia House and celebrate special occasions there as well. The only problem is the Beef Strogonoff - it's SO good it's difficult to sample the rest of the menu!
We especially love the excellently prepared Georgian Duck, the Filet Mignon, Rack of Lamb and the fresh salads. The drink selection never fails to delight with many special vodka cocktails and nice wines to choose from. The elegantly furnished space with Russian art scenes on the walls completes the experience.
The Russia House Restaurant has a warm atmosphere and extremely attentive serving staff. The food was very good and prepared the way we ordered. The entrees are bit pricey but you do get high quality service which makes it all worth it. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and hope to return.
Upon walking into the restaurant we were warmly greeted on this cold winter evening. My wife and I were out for the evening to celebrate my birthday. The food selection for the evening was excellent. I chose the venison which was covered an a brown gravy and was very tasty. My wife chose the duck which she shared with me and was perfectly cooked and delicious. The service was excellent. They carefully timed their appearance at our table giving us the appropriate amount of time to eat, drink and truly enjoy our meal. This is definitely a "Neighborhood Gem". If you are in or near Herndon and are celebrating a special occasion, this is a perfect spot for you.
Food was good but not as polished as prices would suggest. The salmon (Lososina Alexander) had a great sauce, and the fish was cooked OK. The chicken (Tsyplionok Satsivi) was similarly well-sauced and cooked OK. Salads and desserts were nothing special, even below average. Service as slow and disorganized, but pleasant and well meaning.
Menu items revolve around traditional Russian dishes adapted to meet expectations of non-Russians with great success. Offered a variety of their own flavor-infused vodkas. Service was outstanding despite the appearance that they were shorthanded the evening we were there.
This was an amazing dining experience start to finish. Whoever prepares the meals had passion for food and a love of flavor. The wait staff was friendly and helpful. You will not find a better chocolate mousse anywhere in the city. Excellence start to finish.
The food and drinks were tasty, albeit a bit too salty; but, for the price point I don't feel it was worth it. I've enjoyed far better meals for far lower prices and/or more fabulous meals at the same cost. I'm not sure I will return now that I know what to expect but it was a nice place to try out.
This was our first time dining at the Russia House. We will definitely be back! It is a new favorite. We had an appetizer, salad, entree, and coffee -- without exception, everything was wonderful. The service was personal and very good. Unlike so many places, the noise level and room arrangements allow for good conversation.
