The dining experience at Russia House is definitely 5 stars. The food is always excellent (Beef Pelmini for me and Beef Stroganov for my wife) and the service is attentive without being intrusive. We look forward to our next visit.
The Russia House NEVER disappoints! The food is fabulous, and wine and cocktails menu has something for everyone. It’s a great place to get together with friends, as well as special occasions. It’s our “go to” place for our anniversary!
We went to Rusia House on Tuesday, after the Valentine's week. It was quiet. The restaurant is neat, nice tablecloth and decoration.
The service was outstanding, friendly and ready to explain the different meals include in the menu. They have a long list of house drinks, mostly with Vodka as the main ingredient, that worth exploring!
Both our meals were excellent.
We will repeat.
We got overpriced bottle of vine - and usually it is over the store price in restaurants but not so much
We got 10$ bottle of wine for 40$
Seems pretty overpriced
Other then that experience was pleasant and food was good
My wife and I have been going to the Russia House for many years and have always been very pleased with the friendliness of the service and quality of the food. I highly recommend it, as even though it was packed, if did not seem crowded.
Amazing food and service. Warm atmosphere
My filet was delicious, very tender (cut it with a butter knife!) and cooked perfectly. The rest of my food was also quite good, except the Bearnaise was mildly cold. The dessert likely came out of a box with a couple dollops of spray whipped cream. My problem with Russia House was mostly with the service and organization of the restaurant. Clearly family-run, would it be asking too much for the servers to dress up a little? Looks like they were working too hard, could have spent some time on grooming and attire! Also, the menu was a bit dirty and the bar area was a mess. Our table was crowded over in the corner. All of this very much took away from the (mostly) delicious food.
Charming. Personal. Unpretentious. Small. Familial. All this puts you at ease. The food delicious. The music classical. Everything combines in the happiest manner.
The restaurant has a lot of charm and the service was excellent. The food was good but nothing special. The Chicken Kiev tended to be dry and the salmon was okay but not outstanding. My friend and I shared an apple strudel and the crust was just too heavy and it lacked flavor. I doubt that we'll go back which is disappointing because I really liked the place itself and the people were very nice.
After a not-so-great day, we needed something comforting. We couldn't have done better. Right from the start, we were embraced both figuratively and literally. The owners welcomed us like we've never experienced in other restaurants. The service and food exceeded expectations. If you think you don't like Russian food, check out the menu on their website. There is something for everyone. If you like good food and good service, give it a try.
WONDERFUL HUSBAND AND WIFE TEAM THAT TENDS TO EVERY NEED WOULD BE REASON ENOUGH TO VISIT BUT THE FOOD MAKES IT IMPERATIVE THIS IS OUR GO TO PLACE FOR SPECIAL OCCASIONS LIKE OUR ANNIVERSARY CHUCK & TERRI TIMANUS, RESTON
What a lovely, quiet evening at the Russia House on a busy Friday Night in Northern VA. Accommodations; vodka choices; menu suggestions; wine list; service and knowledge all exceeded our expectations. We look forward to dining there again.
Excellent food and wonderful ambience. The owners are very kind and provided extraordinary service. We will be back next time we are nearby.
The Russia House maintains a romantic ambiance, great Russian and French food and a warm welcome by the knowledgeable owners and staff. An outstanding dining experience, perfect for our anniversary dinner.
The restaurant and owners are always terrific. Open table, however, did not send confirmation until today, days later.
Pro: the food is very good.
Con: the cost of the food is very high.
Service: good. However could be better given the high prices.
Good food but pricey. Prices were well above their everyday prices and the portions were very small.
Christmas Eve dinner was a mixed bag. There was a special Christmas menu, which we didn’t care for all that much compared to the regular menu. Our party had vegetarians, and the Christmas menu was lacking. The pasta dish they did have was $45. In fact, all the prices were high - higher even their normally high prices. As for the food, the pasta was not liked, and the duck was horrible. The filet mignon was good, as was the beef stroganoff. The service was OK, if not spectacular. It’s family, not professional wait staff. The chocolate mousse dessert most of us had was average. For us, the food didn’t equal the cost.
My husband & I always enjoy the food, service & atmosphere at The Russia House restaurant. We’ve never been disappointed & we’re self-described foodies. All of their dishes are excellent, the servers are knowledgeable & attentive, and they have an excellent wine list + excellent flavored Vodka shots.
The owners are fabulous and the flavored vodka is out of this world!
I always enjoy eating here when in town. It’s great to be welcomed as a regular. My only disappointment was that I did not have the appetite to eat an entire meal this time. The soup and appetizer I had were, of course, excellent. I cannot say enough good things about this place. Highly recommended.
Russia House serves my husband's favorite beef stroganoff. The Chicken Kiev was delightful. We hope to return soon to try the fruited vodkas, Georgian style chicken and others.
Our first time here although it's not far from our home. The dining room is quaint & quite charming. We don't like noisy restaurants--too hard to comfortably converse, but there were so few tables occupied it was almost too quiet. :) I imagine on a Friday or Saturday it'd be very different! It was a Sunday night so that is perhaps to be expected. The Owner attended all the tables. She's very friendly & very helpful--we enjoyed talking to her. The food was good although more pricey than we expected & not quite as exceptional as anticipated. My husband also had the seasonal pumpkin soup & that was outstanding! Despite some hesitancy, we'll likely return again.
This is the second time we have dined at Russia House and it was great again! Excellent and friendly service, wonderful menu and food, and great atmosphere! Do not miss Russia House!
Wonderful friendly hosts, intimate atmosphere, and reliably good food and drink. The duck with sour cherry sauce never disappoints.
We had not been to the new location just across the street from the old place. It is warm and inviting. The staff treat you as if you are a welcome guest in their home. They feature an excellent wine list. Everything we ate from appetizer to salad to entree to dessert was not just good, but extraordinary. Our host mentioned their regular wine dinners and we can’t wait to go back to try one.
My wife and I went to Russia House for our anniversary and had a great experience. The owner and his wife served us personally and the food and drinks were exceptional. Each item we ordered, from appetizers to entrees were expertly prepared and delicious. Considering the quality of the food, the prices were very reasonable. Highly recommended!
Exceptionally attentive service. Food was good but not to my taste. If Russian or Eastern European food is to your liking you should definitely go to this restaurant.
We were a group of seven for a business related dinner at the Russia House. We were seated in a quiet downstairs room. The server was very good. The infused vodka was quite interesting, and all of the party enjoyed their menu selections. We would do another dinner there.
Best restaurant meal we have had recently, and we live in a sea of good places. Russian food is authentic and excellent, but everything else is just as good. Worth a trip just to enjoy it all.
The food is excellent. We have gone every year for our anniversary for 16 years and never one complaint.
We have been there a handful of times, and NEVER disappointed. They treat you like royalty, and the food is outstanding, as well as their drinks!
We enjoyed the unique food, great service and ambiance in this well established local restaurant
Once again: wonderful. Thank you.
We've been going to the Russia House for over 15 years and it is always a pleasure. The owners manage the restaurant and also serve as the servers and bring a distinctively old world charm and level of attention to your dining experience. And the food is simply delicious. I'd recommend them a hundred times over.
Additionally, downtown Herndon has been making a very nice transformation and itself has garnered nice ambiance.
Very nice staff. Great setting, good attention to detail. Only concern is that on this particular evening they were out of the first 3 wines I selected and my first 2 entries I selected. I really like this restaurant for business dinners.
Attractive, quiet place. Congenial owner. Food is OK, but rich, with rich sauces dominating.
Food was great, waitress helped us figure out what to order from the main course, to the appetizers, to the drinks.
My husband and I had a wonderful, quiet dinner here. The service was outstanding and the food was delicious. It was our first time here and we will plan on coming back.
