Set in historic Herndon, the Russia House Restaurant offers Russian hospitality and culinary excellence in all its details. The restaurant opened in July of 1992 by the friendly owners Ali and Homeyra Darugar, and together they created an atmosphere of aristocratic dining with classic cuisine, with the warm feeling that you are dining at your aristocratic grandmother’s table. Mrs. Darugar moved from Russia with her grandparents to Switzerland, where she learned to cook in her grandmother’s kitchen. She brought her great culinary talents here to the United States and created the exquisite menu and served as the head chef in the first few years the restaurant was opened. We have eaten at Russia House many times over the past decade. They never fail to provide the perfect environment for our special occasions. I love that they have changed up to a more limited menu. There is always something we love and end up sharing.

Fine Dining is alive at The Russia House in Herndon!! We celebrated my husband’s birthday here tonite as a special treat, and, as before, the experience was fantastic. In all the crazy hustle & bustle that is dining in most Reston-Herndon eating establishments, I cannot tell you what a welcome change it is to enjoy great food served by attentive yet unassuming hosts in an unpretentious space. The cocktails were superb, our appetizer and main courses were delectable, and those wonderful warm rolls….!!!! We ended the perfect meal with a heavenly slice of pistachio cheesecake & perfectly brewed cup of coffee (& special treat from our hosts - a cream puff in chocolate sauce with a candle for the birthday boy!!). My sincerest thanks to the Russia House. We will be back soon!!!! Maria & Jerry

My only complaint is with the chairs. They are made of wood and relatively small and not very comfortable. Other than that, eating at the restaurant was a very enjoyable experience. They are a bit pricey though.

I knew this place was pretty expensive going into it but i just thought for even one time lets give it a try. The service was amazing the owners are very nice and they serve you themselves. The place is way too quiet, which some ppl might like it, but I could hear the other tables convo, even could hear them chewing. The food was very good but definitely not for the portion and the price. It was 2 of us, we had soup for appetizer and a meal each and it came out to be 140$, we even just had water for drinks. Again very nice ppl, but extremely expensive for the quality and amount of food.

Russia House is a quaint little restaurant with a charming flair. The owners personally ensure your enjoyment. The food is excellent. My husband and I have been going there for special occasions for years and still enjoy it very much. The beef in the Beef Stroganoff is so tender you can cut it with a fork. The filet was also extremely tender and flavorful. A very nice experience.

This was a gem! The perfect, quiet romantic restaurant with excellent food. Family owned and a delightful, varied menu to choose from. An old historical building with original art is charming. My only suggestion is better cushions on the chairs. A great, interesting and surprisingly wonderful find.

This place was amazing. I loved the food and the service was great. It is pricey but the quality and taste was worth it. I highly recommend this for a special occasion or an upscale date night. I had the shrimp appetizer, Katrina martini and the scallops as a main course. All amazing.

My parents both grew up with Russian immigrants for grandparents and they both loved getting to experience dishes from their childhoods. For me, the apple strudel immediately took me back to twenty-five years ago, sitting in my great grandmother's kitchen as she baked.

My girlfriend is cautious about trying new food. But she really loved Russia House. She absolutely loved the caviar on blinis appetizer and her salmon entree. The service is very good, quiet but prompt. The restaurant's ambiance is pleasantly Russian. It's a nice place for good food and a quiet date.

As always, the food was very well cooked. The drinks were wonderful and everyone enjoyed what they ordered, the four of us tasted each other's drinks and everyone was very impressed by the cocktails. The chocolate martini was so unique and very good! The food was amazing and as always, the bread warm and oh so very good tasting.

The fact that there was only one other table occupied in the restaurant should have been a red flag, considering other restaurants being packed and it was a Friday at 7:30. I will say the bread was fantastic and the inside of the place was super cute. Our appetizer and main entrees were terrible. I had dry $42 pasta with raw onions and tomatoes and a small dash of caviar on top (and those were the only ingredients). I was intrigued to try Russian food, but heed my advice and go somewhere else.

Solo Sunday dinner. This restaurant has been on my list for awhile and the reservation opportunity on Open Table made me commit The dining room is elegant and a reminder of the elegance in the past and has a few bits on later Soviet times The vodka and wine menu are fabulous, the food great and be sure to check out the specials

Three of us enjoyed terrific dinners at Russia House. Our grandson enjoyed the pasta with vegetables. Both my wife and I ordered the Duck with Sour Cherries. It was great! This was our first visit to Russia House, and the experience was enjoyable.

We enjoyed a leisurely dinner at Russia House. The food was very good, particularly the steak which was cooked perfectly. Though busy, the restaurant was quiet and pleasant. The service was attentive although the kitchen was a bit slow getting some of the food out.

We had such a great dinner here! The service was great and the food was very very good. The place is soo cute with vintage touches. We started with the meatballs and shrimp. Then shared the shrimp and rice, stuffed cabbage, beef stroganoff, and chicken Kiev. We were in love with everything and stuffed but had to try the pistachios cheesecake. I will definitely be back.

We had the best Beef Stroganoff we've ever had, anywhere, last week at Russia House in Herndon. The chicken kiev was very tasty too, and the cavier quite delicious. Even the bread was superlative - with two little buns given to each guest. The owners - and servers - were incredibly welcoming, accomodating and gracious. The decor is both formal and warm. We will definitely go back to this Old World gem in the heart of historic Herndon!

The Russia House never disappoints! This has to be one of the best restaurants in the northern Virginia area. The ambiance is delightful and the service is beyond my best expectations. The food is exceptional! We will make it a point to return more frequently.

A wonderful retreat from the everyday experience. Do not rely on online pricing. It brought me in as being $$, but cost almost double what I anticipated paying. Definitely in the $$$ price range. If cool outside, bring a wrap. It takes a while for the heat to kick in indoors. Service otherwise couldn't have been more accommodating.

I love dining out and I appreciate good food, unfortunately, not here. This is the first time ever that I write a review and it’s not because of lack of experience dining out. Please believe me when I say that people come to me quite often when they want to find a restaurant for all types of occasions and tell me I really should write reviews- well, I finally felt compelled to do so. We came here to celebrate my husband’s birthday, after reading many good reviews and only a few bad ones. He, especially, was looking forward to eating here. As many have said, the menu is not the same as on their website. They do have several of the dishes at a much higher price. I must start by saying that the owners are quite lovely, kind and attentive. The place itself is nice. The bread is wonderful, and the drinks were fine. So it was a good start, but it stops there. For appetizers, my husband ordered the Borsht and I the house salad ($15 each). Which were really a cup of so-so vegetable soup and a small non-descript salad you get for free at a family spaghetti place. The price was truly ridiculous for what you get. For our main courses, he ordered the chicken Kiev ($38) and I the highly recommended duck ($47). On the website, the prices are $29 and $41, respectively. I love duck, but again, not here. Firstly, you cannot request that it be medium rare, I was informed that is was because of the way they cook it -I was willing to take a chance. Well, it was eatable -OK at the most, but also had that freezer burn taste. At least it was better than my husband‘s chicken dish which was very tough, and the supposedly buttery inside was nonexistent, the rice was also subpar. Of the accompanying vegetables, I liked the zucchini. The kind owners did bring a complementary dessert with a candle in celebration of the birthday, which was a nice gesture. I should really stop here since it was sweet of them, but i will go ahead… the profiterole was like those that you get in the frozen
