Russet Ratings and Reviews
We drove from Lancaster, PA just to have Saturday brunch at Russett. It was our anniversary and we wanted a special place to celebrate. And Rissett was special indeed .... very cozy, quiet, atmospheric, fantastic service and wonderful, tasty, delicious food! Their BYOB policy also allowed us to bring along a favorite Pinot Noir, so our celebration was quite a success! We’ll definitely visit again, as well as recommend it to others.....
We went to this restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. The hostess was very inappropriately dressed, I was under the impression it was a fine dining establishment, not a night club. The server was there to turn and burn. He dropped the bread on the table without a word and turned to another table. It was good bread, I would have liked to know what kind it was. Overall I was hoping for more hospitality. The food was rustic and different. The sauces were the best part of each dish. My entrees first discriptor was Brussels sprouts, I found 2 leaves, no more.. very disappointed.
The atmosphere was perfect for a date night. The dining room was in the first floor of a converted brownstone and was lovely. The appetizers were very good. My husband had gnocchi and I had homemade spaghetti with chicken and mushrooms. Both were excellent and had great flavors. The apps were much better than the entrees. I had lamb chops and my husband had roast chicken which looked like fancy feast cat food. The lambs chops were cooked perfectly but the flavor was pretty plain. They came with some kind of potato cake which I did not like and mushy, flavorless brussel sprouts. It was more expensive than other BYOBs in the city as well.
It was a rainy day. Our timing was post brunch rush. Other than a loudly screaming child, all was really excellent! After telling is the brunch special cheddar scones were sold out, our server returned to say freshly-baked ones were just pulled from the oven! YUM! When I started with a salad, the server offered that I could switch out my now superfluous side-salad on my entree for potatoes or cheesy grits! YUM! All the right moves!
We just had one of the best meals we've ever had. We started with the cheese plate, with three local cheeses, all fantastic. Then we had gnocchi with a mushroom sauce and a salad next; the gnocchi were amazing and the salad was deliciously dressed. For entrees we had wild striped bass with jerusalem artichokes, and arctic char with some kind of greens, beets, and some citrus. Both were perfectly cooked and spectacular. Finally we had a little chocolate cake of some kind--it was excellent.
In the past I’ve had a wonderful experiences at Russet, the atmosphere is usually perfect for an intimate date night. However on this evening the restaurant booked 3 large groups simultaneously and the noise levels were extremely uncomfortable in the small space.
A delicious surprise as a 1st time at Russet's since they took over the space that used to be
Ernesto's years ago, a past favorite of mine. Russet will be at the top of my list of Center City restaurant choices pre/post- theater rather than the newer 'notable chef' additions that are noisy and have not so interesting menu choices. The stuffed Artic Char was a winner for me, fresh as can be from inside out and very tasty. My friend enjoyed her selection of 1st course apple and lettuce salad that I can attest to having sampled some, featuring a deliciously
tart sweet dressing. Her other 1st course choice calves liver, she enjoyed as a main course.
The service was pleasantly attentive from beginning to end. The small apple tart we shared
and good hot decaf coffee was a perfect end. It was nice to be so close to the Kimmel Center,
too, on a very cold night.
We had a lovely dinner at Russet. We particularly appreciated the fact that there are always vegetarian options. Although the restaurant was almost full, it was quiet and our courses arrived well spaced. We were served both still and sparkling water (gratis) and brought our own wine.
After a long absence overseas, I returned for a few recent visits and was delighted to see it still ranks as one of my favourite restaurants in Philadelphia. The daily-changing menu never fails to provide a wonderful selection and the ambiance is very comfortable.
Make your appetizer Sweet Potato Lasagna a main course entree. It was wonderful and would make a perfect main dish.
Ginger Bread desert serve slight warmer.
Maybe a little more lighting at some tables. We noticed some people using smart phone flash light to read the menu.
My friends and I have a great experience with Russet during Restaurant Week. The restaurant itself is lovely and we felt comfortable. Right away we noticed that there was an ample amount of wait staff. Our server was very responsive, knowledgeable and friendly. We were all pleased with our food choices. Our meals were expertly prepared, fresh and delicious. We especially loved our desserts. The only possible drawback could have been that the menu was limited; however, we had no problem with the choices available. We found it to be an excellent value for the money and it's a BYOB!
First course was fine. Nothing to write about. Then it went downhill. Server brought entrees to the table while my date was absent..seems weird to leave hot food at an empty seat or with only one person there. My entree was actually cold. Sent it back and it came back out less than 5mins later..still cold on a hot plate. Service was spotty, had to waive people down, servers came to the table with other table's dirty dishes in hands, never removed empty bottle or bread basket. Overall underwhelming. Restaurant was very cute, loved the vibe but probably won't be back.
I wish I could give this place 3.5 stars. I enjoyed everything I ate. It does however taste like a dinner I could get by a very good home cook, not someone professionally trained. This might be a positive for some and a negative for others. It can get a little loud because there aren't enough soft surfaces to absorb sound.
Russet was very cozy. The food was delicious. First course and main course were very impressive. Desert was a let down. Overall I would return. I hope they bring the last course up to par with the first and second courses. Restaurant has tons of potential. We will definitely return. Waitress was efficient and very cool. The vibe was eclectic and fun. It is a great place for dinner pre-theater. Choices on menu showed real thought and desire to be different. Execution of first and second courses was excellent. Bold and rich flavors, thoughtful presentation.
Most of our food was great. However we dined during restaurant week and 2 of our party of 4 got the trout for dinner. Both fish had a lot of fish bones and were not properly filleted. When we informed the waiter, he just responded asking if we want it boxed to take home. Was a little odd of a response. Otherwise the meal was nice.
Russet was an awesome dining experience. Everything was excellent from the service, food, and atmosphere. Farm-to-table dining is becoming more popular and this restaurant is a perfect example of why. The food was inventive and delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.
I always love eating at this beautiful restaurant. And I always order the fish, no matter what. Delicious and cooked to perfection. Although my friend got the vegetable gratin which was perfect. The cheese plate was yummy. We liked all of the desserts but the citrus pana cotta was amazing!
Per usual, Russet provided us with an enjoyable atmosphere, kind and attentive service, and delicious food! Their restaurant menu was lovely, with ample option. Claire, our server, was pleasant and attentive- she gave us a generous serving of butter because we had said how much we like it! Great place, great meal, very happy, per usual.
