Everything was fine except for when the waiter asked what we would like to have. We hesitated no knowing who was going first. No indication from him. He sarcastically said “well I can’t read you minds”. Also he offered a taste of wine and then never brought it.
I would really like to see Russell's succeed because we need a good, vibrant restaurant to succeed in West Austin. My husband and I enjoy going to Russell's for coffee. They serve Anderson coffee from next door, which is delicious. They have nice baked goods. The lunch menu is lacking and the service can be bad. We decided to give Russell's for dinner another try last night. I ordered 3 vegetable sides and they were all tasty. My husband ordered the pork. The waiter said it came with mashed potatoes and he could choose a second side. He chose the Brussel sprouts with blueberries. When his dinner came we were both taken back!! Chunks of pork were mixed into this mound of mashed potatoes and the blueberries from the side dish were rolling around. It truly looked like someone had already eaten the dinner the threw it up on the plate. Very unappetizing. I am giving up on Russell's.
A neighborhood jewel. Never fails to disappoint!
Sunday Brunch was wonderful. Food and service very good. Sat on patio that was enclosed. Definitely will go again!
We ate several different appetizers and sides, and they were delicious. The salmon entree was good. The restaurant was quiet, so it was delightful that we could have a conversation easily without having to shout. We ate on the enclosed patio, so the chairs were outdoor chairs that were not especially comfortable, but that was fine (we had the option to eat inside where the chairs would have been different, but we preferred outside).
Although they serve wine, we instead chose to pay their corking fee and bring our own wine, which is always our preferred option (and not available at many restaurants). The service was excellent. Our preference was to linger over the meal (we spent 2.5 hours at our meal), and they were happy to accommodate us and let us order our next round of food slowly.
It was a very enjoyable meal, and we would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Russell’s is always very very good. My gf was upset it was a fixed menu for valentines when we got there (she wanted her favorites), but as the food came out she absolutely loved it. Great experience, great food!
Our "little secret" . Easy to get to , nice wine selection and great entrees.
We started our Valentines meal off with cheese and meats (salami and pepperoni) but no crackers! We asked for some but they didn't have any. Next was a meh salad that was very forgettable. The star of the evening was the ribeye, which was cooked to perfection. However, the potatoes that it was resting on were bizarre. It looks like they took a baked potato and fried it. Whatever they did, it did not work. The cheesecake was decent. The chairs on their patio were very cheap and uncomfortable for a place that encourages reservations. We won't be back.
First time visit. Friendly service and very good food in casual setting. Live music was fun.
I love Russel's Bistro. My husband and I discovered it randomly, and on a whim, decided to try it out. We've been coming back ever since. My favorite time to dine is Sunday Brunch with croissants, pancakes and the eggs benedict. Yum!
The food was great. The service was slow
Joe and his staff have created a great neighborhood gem with excellent choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner for a reasonable fare. We continue to frequent this restaurant again and again and are never disappointed. Give it a try!
they don't have real maple syrup available for brunch.
Very good brunch. Had the spinach benedict -- very well done. GF had the chicken salad, which was excellent.
We had a problem with an OpenTable gift cert, which was partially my fault for not doing due diligence, but the manager (black hair with beard/mustache -- didn't catch his name) was really gracious, giving us some coffee and pastries as a bit of compensation. Really appreciated that! (Russell's cinnamon bun/muffin thing is definitely the best around!)
Good food in a pleasant and not too noisy ambience. Would definitely return
Kent was excellent. Food was good, outdoor seating was perfect.
Great spot for Saturday brunch - good mimosas, fantastic deck seating, great staff, unique and delicious menu options.
I went there for their 10oz NEW YORK STRIP with grilled portabella demi glace that was on the website menu--except it wasn't available at 5:30pm on Saturday. (?).
The waitress was very busy--being the only one on the floor, it seemed.
She was not accurate about her wine, but overall was very pleasant. I highly recommend the Brussel sprouts with blue berries. Memorable, and I don't like Brussel spouts normally.
Another great visit to Russell's Bistro. We admit that we continue to frequent this establishment as much for the quality and value of the food as we go to have a quiet conversation while enjoying the outdoor patio or inside table. The owner strives to maintain a quality environment with choice ingredients and friendly staff who make you feel like you are home. Perfect!
We wanted a last day of the vacation dinner. Not too fancy but nice. The references were pretty nice, but when we got there it was almost empty ( Thursday afternoon ) and we could choose our table. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was ok,
We were seated outside, which normally wouldn't have been an issue except we had out 11 no old son and there was an exhaust vent from inside blowing right on our table. The server move the table about 5 inches. I would have preferred inside or another table altogether. But other than that the food was geeat.
One of my favorite spots in town. Consistently good food, good service and welcoming atmosphere.
Always reliable, good food and service.
My husband and I were disappointed in our date night here. We'd been once before for Sunday brunch and had a great experience. This time we felt that the food was bland and just so-so (I had the pasta of the day and he had the tiger shrimp) and we were agitated by flies throughout the meal. The condition of the restaurant is also a turnoff - I pointed out 2 broken chairs to our server (as we left we saw there were more), the paint needs to be touched up all around and it seemed like it was in need of a very deep clean (walls, window sills, floor). The staff were friendly and very attentive - that was the good part! We may be up to trying brunch there again in the future since we had such a great experience before, but we're in no rush to get back.
Love it. Good food. Reasonable prices. Can't beat it!
Over all feeling was that they could care less if we were there or not. Food tasted like it had been pre- prepared and then popped in the microwave .
Perfect place for a midday business discussion. Food and beverage options and staff are top notch. Noise level appropriate
This was our first visit to Russell's, but won't be the last. All four of us in the part thought the food was very good, decent to large portions and moderately priced. We were surprised it was not crowded on a Friday evening, but I'll bet they draw more of a lunch crowd. People are missing out because Russell's is clearly a good place to dine in the evening.
Russell's Bistro is perfect for any occasion from the lengthy weekday business conversation to weekend drop in. Location also perfect to meetings of all sort, without the downtown commute. Staff and owner are great, food and drink top notch.
This was our first time at Russell's Bistro, and we loved it! We went with our 7 year-old son. The service was great, Kent took good care of us. We had a nice wine for a good price. My salmon was outstanding, and my wife's filet was flavorful and perfectly prepared. With all of the choices available in Austin, this was a real gem!
We are regulars at Russell's Bistro, and look forward every weekend to having bunch there. The menu is extensive, the food is consistently excellent, and the service is outstanding and professional (attentive enough, but not hovering). Russell's serves the best eggs Benedict in Austin. My wife loves the sweet potato hash. One our top two or three restaurants!
It was good and I'll be back. Always the love the ambiance, service and food.
This is a hidden gem!
Great as usual and service was excellent. Our meals were very hot when they came out, cooked to perfection and wonderful taste.
Your new menu is very nice, however you removed that delicious small filet which
I always ordered. My friend and I had your "new" burger which was very delicious-
a little, different but good.
Lovely neighborhood gen great for quiet conversations, outdoor dining, friendly waitstaff, & great food. Love this place!
Great brunch spot!
Russell's really fits the neighborhood gem category. We were also able to take advantage of the half off wines bottles deal as were large groups of women. The trout was beautifully prepared as was the mushroom risotto.
Great food and menu!
Their waiters had no idea what was gluten-free and what was not. It was very stressful, especially when our waiter decided to stop serving our table because we were asking too many questions. The staff was horrific and the food was mediocre.
