About Rue Dumaine
Chef Anne Kearney and Tom Sand Jr., co-proprietors, welcome you to their home! We have created a unique atmosphere where you can celebrate the good things in life, and put your cares on hold for a few hours. The décor has been created with many French bistro elements. Rue Dumaine specializes in an Americanized version of classic French flavors. Come savor duck rillette crepes, or indulge in crispy Herb de Provence frog legs, or a robust serving of Cabernet braised short ribs. Chef Anne is passionate about local ingredients such as honey, organic eggs, and all-natural chicken from Ed Hill’s farm in Xenia. Only the best artisan cheeses, gelato, vegetables and breads are brought in; everything else is prepared in-house. Menus change seasonally to accommodate fresh produce and seasonal specialties from local suppliers. The wine room is stocked with “wines from around the world” chosen from boutique wineries that exhibit “attention to detail” in all aspects of their winemaking process.

Rue Dumaine Ratings and Reviews
Chef Anne and super friendly staff have done it again! Providing us with an outstanding array of Drinks, snacks, app's and main dishes to die for. We had a wonderful time and our meal is more then worth the 2 hour drive. Thank you so much for having us and we look forward to future events. Alfredo & Tina from Gahanna, Oh
Food was absolutely horrible. My food was cold. I ordered lamb chops while my friend ordered steak. The waitress took over an hour to bring us our food. She didn't apologize. She acted like it was no big deal. When we told her how cold our food was, she said it was supposed to be like that. Oh, okay, we didn't know lamb chops and steak supposed to be cold. Sorry. The 1 hour dinner turned out to be 4 hours. 1 hour of waiting for our drinks and 1 hour of waiting for bread. The best part was over an hour wait for our entrees.
Rue Dumaine always has such a fantastic menu. The food is always top quality, drinks are fantastic, as is the wine list. If you don't know what wine would be good with your meal, just ask for Evan's assistance for a selection - he never misses! I absolutely LOVE this place.
We are looking forward to Anne's next special ventures. It is sad that she could not work out the lease term, but I know she will move on to bigger and better things for her foodie following. She is a talented chef, smart business person, and such a great asset to the Miami Valley. There hasn't been a time that we weren't in the restaurant that she didn't come to our table to chat with us personally. You don't find exquisite dishes and a wonderful chef like this anywhere! Thank you, Anne!
The food was not even the quality as the reviews stated. I ordered the Hanger steak for $28 and all I got was three small pieces of burnt meat covered in a large plate of french fries. The other diner ordered the Salmon special, which was undercooked. From seating for the time of the bill took two hours. We noticed all parties that were seated when we were, had left a least an hour before we finished. The waitress couldn't figure out way our food took so long to prepare
Dined early to beat the rush. Order rum and coke. Tasted off. Spouse and I are both rum drinkers. Told server. She insisted it was rum, just that their rum was different. Well I drink light and spouse drinks dark; the drink in question was neither and did not taste like rum at all. She did replace my drink and the whiskey sour was fine. Ordered Steak frites for dinner and asked for more butter. Fries were just plain skinny fries; no seasoning or anything special; practically covered the plate and were piping hot. The steak was small but tasty but hardly room temperature. Obviously the steaks sat waiting for the plain fries. Again requested additional butter for the bread, which was very crusty. 30 minutes later when another person was clearing our table he asked if alright to take the remaining bread. I said sure, I asked for butter to eat with it 30 minutes ago but it never arrived so I don't need the bread any more. I think something is lost in service consistency. The server takes your order but it is delivered by someone else and cleaned up by yet someone else. Our server only checked on us once to change out my drink which is when I asked for butter. The drink arrived but not the butter. Server did bring the bill but waited so long to come collect that we just left money on the table and departed. The pan seared scallops are fabulous but dinner was downhill from there.
This is my favorite restaurant in Dayton and we come at least 4-5 times a year. As always, the greeting at the door was gracious and they had a special menu printed noting our anniversary. That being said, the service was not up to usual standards, which may have been due to a computer system issue our waiter shared.
My husband had the oysters for a starter, the Dumaine salad and the short rib for his main. Loved all of them. I had the crab cake special for my starter, the Dumaine salad (both wonderful) and the duck breast special for my main. The duck seemed to be a little less cooked than the medium rare request but that's on me for not questioning or sending it back.
The special touches were missing for us (no amuse bouche, had to ask several times for bread) and the overall pace was a bit more than leisurely than I would want (2-1/2 hours for dinner) but this was just a small misstep for a wonderful restaurant. I will be back again and I'm confident they will perform to their usual excellence again. We enjoy the restaurant and love supporting this local gem.
This is one of the best restaruants in the area. The food is wonderful. They specialize in New Orleans style cuisine but using the freshest ingredients from Local Farmers. The staff is excellent and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. One cannot go wrong regardless of what you order. If you are a food lover you should visit Rue Dumaine for top quality restaurant fare.
We are out of towners visiting for mother in laws birthday. So happens to be close to our anniversary and so we wanted to do something special. We found this gem online and are wishing it wasn't 3.5 hrs from our home.
The people are fantastic.
It was our anniversary and they asked if we were going to celebrate a special occasion. Ok great, not unusual but kind for them to ask. But, I haven't found many places that actually do something about it. Here, our menus said Happy Anniversary (doesn't take much and has a huge impact) - We also received a glass of champagne.
From the host who seated us, to waitress, to the owner who came around to say hi to people, they all knew and were cognizant.
Trust me, I am one who likes to not be in the spotlight. I don't like the focus of the room. This was subtle and felt truly honest.
Then. The food.
Delicious. An amuse bouche to begin and everything just flowed. The tuna carpaccio, scallops, lamb, cassoulet - all delicious. The small plates are a great size to share and allow you to try multiple flavours. The main plates are not obnoxious in size, but full in flavour. Wow.
Also, wine list is crazy. Super nice wines - can get a bit extravagant, but you can find a good one that is affordable.
Dessert was great. Just summed it all up.
Please go visit.
We did the Italian Tasting menu - small plates paired with some Tuscan reds that you wont find at Arrow. Small plates ran from the carpaccio to the pork shoulder - just enough and carefully prepared. Anne runs a tight ship and Evan is the top master of the bar in the Miami Valley. Tony is 100% pro at the business of waiter-ing.
The food and service were excellent. Had dinner with friends and we all enjoyed our meals very much except that my husband had one of the smaller dinners. A little disappointed in the portion for what he paid and may have looked like more on a smaller plate. Desserts were to die for! Would recommend for special occasions if price is no object. Servers were very attentive and Chef Anne's visit to our table was very special.
The food was outstanding. The salmon was perfectly prepared and was a generous portion. It was accompanied by the freshest and most delicious freash peas and pea shots with a lemon beurre blanc sauce. Such a lovely meal, perfect for the coming spring. It was also a very healthy meal. No wonder Anne Kearney wins so many awards.
We appreciate Rue Dumaine for the local, clean food served and the changes in the menu seasonally. If any member of our party ever has a special dietary restriction or need, the staff is more than willing the accommodate. It is the one restaurant in our area that we come back to.
We would like to see the table size for 4 people increase a bit. Getting all of us around the table and making room for all the plates, glasses, etc was a bit uncomfortable. We are thankful to have Rue Dumaine so close to our home and are always proud to bring friends & family here.
This restaurant was on my list for a while before I tried it. My girlfriend and I are our one year anniversary dinner here and I did not regret that decision! Food was superb and service was knowledgable without being overbearing. I will most definitely go again!
Had high expectations after reading other reviews...the service was incredibly slow and that was at a 5:30 (early dinner) time, ordered 6 small plates and the last 3 came after 7:00 pm. Had the food been good his would have been less of an issue. No one wanted to to finish the duck crepes, very greasy and odd flavor, the other dishes really only got eaten as we took turns trying to decide what was off in the dish. Even thought the pork and chicken breast plates were described differently on the menu, they came identical except one had chicken and one had duck. No second chance with this one, will not return.
Rue Dumaine is excellent! The food is outstanding and their wine list is extensive. Very comfortable, no rush atmosphere. If not for the babysitter, I think we could have had our table for the rest of the night😊 My compliments to Chef Anne and her staff. Food in the form of art is all I can say! We will be dining there again soon😊
The Rue is now offering extra "small plates" of specialty food. At half price of a normal entrée, you can order a double small plate of whatever you like if you are feeling hungry, or order a couple different ones to mix and match (and try with different wines). I had the tender and flavorful braised short rib with mashed parsnip. My companion had the sweetbreads, an exotic dish for me, but it shows that there is a wide selection. The kitchen is always willing to modify a dish -- omit a sweet sauce, say -- and the wait staff is good at recommending wines.
