Dining area near the bar was a little too noisy for quiet conversation, but it was St. Patrick's day. Food was great and waitress respected the fact we were on a date and wasn't intrusive.
Exceeded expectations, great service, food was freat
The bread was absolutely delicious as was the flavored butter. I had a salmon special and it was also very very good. My husband loved the mac and Cheese and the grilled asparagus salad (he did find the salad a little too salty for his liking.)
Our waitress was right on when needed. Very efficient and pleasant.
Finally a restaurant that has a quiet ambiance. Nice music and low noise level. I wish more places would get this figured out.
My Husband ordered the lamb. We barley made it back to the Hotel! It’s been a long night....
Excellent food, excellent service. The friend Brie appetizer was amazing! Our waiter was well-skilled and attentive. Water glasses were regularly refilled. Dishes were cleared promptly. We were seated near the entrance to the kitchen and busing station, so that took away from the experience a little bit. I enjoy low light, but the light was even a little bit too low for me. I could not see the menu or food very well due to the lighting being so low. Live jazz pianist was wonderful. Very romantic. Would recommend.
Great ambiance in this restaurant. A+. Friendly wait staff, cool jazz band (two guys) and fantastic food. Highly recommend it! We went for a Valentine's brunch, it was under $50 fr two of us. Right in the heart of Portsmouth--great if you are out for the day or just want a quiet easy, classy place to stop.
We often go to Rudi's ahead of a Music Hall program, because of the food, ambiance (we love the music), and proximity to the Music hall and the Parking Garage. Things were somewhat "off" service wise this time. Our friend who specifically asked to have NO onions on his burger and his salad, had to send them both back as both had onions. Our other friend, who was having a caesar salad and some soup, got the soup well after the salad. We usually have no complaints, but I said, things were "off", which made this visit less enjoyable than others.
Wonderful music and food
My fiancé and I came here for Valentine’s Day. There was a live jazz band - music was great! We had the scallops and rack of lamb, both meals were amazing and cooked perfectly.
My wife and have been going to Rudi’s for a number of years now. The food, live music, and atmosphere never disappoint! This is a great place for a romantic evening out on the town, a special occasion, or to go with a group of friends for a nice dinner.
Nice atmosphere and it was nice and relaxing to listen to the live music while we ate. Food was good and service was good. I'll definitely be back.
Very enjoyable, upscale restaurant with superb service and food. I've thoroughly enjoyed it each time I have come here.
The food was good as always but the bathroom was falling apart!
Fantastic waitress, she knew everything and was charming! Great food and great night!
We were here for brunch. The food was okay, not good, not bad. Live music for brunch. Nice dining room. Bathrooms were dirty. Just....meh.....
We met some friends for dinner on a Saturday night and were very pleased with the overall experience. The food was delicious and the wait staff very attentive. We spent 3 hours over dinner and never felt like they wanted us to leave. Everyone got something different and we shared. I had the duck breast which was cooked perfectly and the sides complemented the overall meal. The consensus was that the scallops were the best choice. We had scallop appetizer and one person got the scallop dinner. The scallops were cooked to perfection and had a little sweet taste. We will definitely visit this restaurant again.
We had good food and great conversation in this relatively quiet restaurant. Perfect choice for sharing a travel experience.
Rudi’s has been in Portsmouth a long time. I hadn’t been there for a couple years & had always enjoyed their food. Food was very good. Wait staff was friendly & attentive. It was brunch on a Sunday. My friend & I enjoyed our experience. We’ll be back!
My visit was totally out of the blue with my boyfriend, but a great decision. The food was fantastic. I ordered the Irish Benedict and had to control myself to not lick my plate. I also ordered the Pink Grapefruitini was SO good. Our server, Karen, was fun and attentive without crossing any line (she let us enjoy our date). I loved the live music and can't wait to go again
My husband and I wanted a healthy low carb alternative for dinner and we had an excellent scallops appetizer, a delicious salad, an outstanding salmon filet over spinach, pancetta, pine nuts and grapes with a delicious drizzle, and then we had a yummy ricotta dessert with fresh decaf coffee. My husband had some scotch and service was good. Piano music in the background - what a lovely evening! Thank you, Rudi's...
Excellent experience, Birthday dinner group. Everything from the service to the food was perfect. Great place.
Seafood was very disappointing. We have eaten here before and this time was bad
I love this place! They have great food. Love their brunch and the wine bar. I’ve also had an event their and the service was amazing!
We had to wait a long time for our food because there was a large private party. The music was so loud it was difficult to carry on a conversation. Otherwise good experience.
First time for brunch. Decision for trying was twofold; reviews, and the menu being a la carte instead of buffet. The Mrs had a mimosa, and French toast. Was pleased with both. I had the Irish Benedict. Hash was in house made and excellent. Service was a little lax, but it was brunch, and we were not in a hurry. Certainly not a complaint. Food and ambiance were worth the trip (hour drive), and Mrs wants to come back to try it for dinner.
Brunch at Rudi's was a real treat! The atmosphere is elegant and relaxing and the food was very good.
Went there for New Year’s eve dinner. Great food, great service. Really great jazz trio playing in the bar.
Dining at Rudi's is always an enjoyable experience! We were there recently with another couple for NYE and began the evening at Rudi's wine bar for drinks prior to dinner. We were having such a great time that we decided to stay where we were for dinner. Service was attentive and everyone was very happy with their entrees and cocktails. Rudi's is always on our list of places we recommend in Portsmouth!
New Year's Eve ! Got a last minute reservation , someone cancelled. Thank you open table!
The evening was fantastic from the drinks, the ape, and the main meal. Service was excellent along with the live music. One of our favorite places in Portsmouth
This is a low-lit, cozy spot in a very elegant, old building. It is easy to get to, has available parking, and is pretty laid back. I often meet friends here to relax.
We loved this restaurant but it was just a bit too dark. I wished they had the lights up just a bit-otherwise the food was great and the waiter helped us with other restaurants near The Music Hall for the next night
Restaurant was quite cold and unfortunately so was the food. Dry cold mussels for me and a cold burger and fries for my daughter. At least my husband’s meat dish was warm and decent.
If I lived closer I might come again on a Friday eve just to enjoy a beer with a friend. The food was good. Mac N Cheese a bit too el dented and salmon over done for my taste but otherwise - good.
Apple crisp - amazing .... worth the hour drive for just that!
Service - excellent
We chose Rudi's because for a Sunday lunch, they had both breakfast and lunch items to choose from. The shrimp tacos were tasty as was the salmon burger. The service was quick and our waitress was attentive.
Friends Christmas celebration, great night. Elizabeth was our server and over the top great, we even had her pick our wines. Food was delicious all around, curried haddock, rack of lamp and steak tips - we added mac n cheese as our starch, fabulous.
Live music and festive scene. Perfect all in all
Always reliable... service and food. Whether in the restaurant or at the bar. And parking!
We came for a Christmas lunch. The place was not crowded at all, yet our service was mediocre at best. The Quinoa salad was pretty good. Salmon sandwich dry and flavorless. Drinks were also average. The bathroom was dirty, freezing and without paper towel. When we asked for a manager, we were told there wasn't one. On the way out, we asked the bartender is he was the manager. He said, "there's not one on duty, so I guess, sure." When we started to explain about the bathroom he said, in that case, I'm not the manager. He was trying to be funny/cute, but it wasn't. Overall topped off an average to below-average experience.
That night very very cold out and where we sat it was a bit cold as well next to the exterior wall.Single table behind the entrance . Also Christmas music was ok , but Rudolf kept playing and playing . Could vary the music even something classical would be fine. And by the way two children in my vision were playing with their tablets ... Kept them busy, but what a shame that they couldn't sit and talk to their parents .The kids were 8 and 9 ish ...the tablets bright lights were shining in my eyes . Waiter from Moscow was a very fine server, pleasant and not obvious .
Everything about the experience was excellent. We had great food, fantastic services and the Christmas atmosphere was amazing. We had the beef tenderloin with fingerling potatoes and asparagus and it was great! My niece and I split it and there was nothing left on either of our plates! We had the hand-cut French Fries as an appetizer. Their Ketchup with spicy peppers? and aoli (sp?) was amazing. Not a fry left!
Our server was excellent and friendly. I would definitely recommend it to my friends.
