Rudi's Portsmouth Ratings and Reviews
Amazed at how large the dining areas are. Seated at a nice cozy table in the corner and treated to impromptu piano man's musical accompaniment for 15 minutes. Duck entrée presented beautifully and cooked just perfectly. Root veggie risotto also delicious...portion too large to finish in one sitting. Enjoyed for 2 more lunches. Roasted beet salad very nice to start...would have liked it to have been split as we were sharing. Very nice time considering it was two nights before Thanksgiving. One of our favorite eateries in Portsmouth.
Our waitress was not very good. She brought us the wrong drinks, and when we finished eating she brought the check without asking if we would like coffe, desert, or another drink. I let them know it was my husbands birthday however, they did not even mention it. Reservation was at 6:45 and we were out of there by 8:00. Bar was full and no room to sit.
It was a very quiet Thursday evening which seemed unusual however, Rudi’s was not part of restaurant week! Fine with us. We shared a calamari app which was fantastic and 2 of us had the haddock coconut curry - yummy! Salmon and duck were raved about too:) g
Great personable waitress, fun evening!!
Received a gift certificate. My wife had lamb w/spinach & roasted potatoes that she liked very much. Lamb cooked as asked for. I had steak tips w/rissoto in house marinade. Asked for medium well & they were served well done. I was going to send back if they were tough but to my surprise they were tender & very flavorful. Obviously the marinade was the key. Next time I would ask for medium pink. It was a Sat. night & very busy. I definitely would recommend.
Overall, rudi's was a great spot for my birthday dinner-date night. The food was fantastic (especially the calamari appetizer). Though I was a bit sad to know that even know I made a reservation and had noted it was my birthday, our table was in the corner far from the live music, and nothing special was done for my birthday. I would recommend this spot for others.
Went for our 12th anniversary. Made request for "best table available" via Open Table and we were sat next to the bus station against a wall. When I asked for a better table the hostess sat us, but from then out we were treated like hostile diners. Unfortunate, as otherwise it was good meal and nice restaurant.
Really enjoyed this place, great jazz piano player in the background. very cozy and comfortable feel to the atmosphere. The Food was great, my steak was perfectly cooked as I asked for. great presentation of the meal our plates. Flavorful and enjoyable all the way through. The people were nice and friendly and provided really good service.
As always we had a lovely brunch on Sunday and love the live jazz music playing in the background.
The only thing I would change is their lack of gluten free bread options for the brunch or even for dinner. My daughter-in-law has many food allergies and they had no options for toast with her omelet.
Always our first choice for brunch!
We arrived early for our reservation and the hostess was able to seat us ahead of time which we appreciated. Our server left a lot to be desired which has colored our opinion of the restaurant. Tables arriving after us were served bread and had orders taken before us. We only received bread after we asked. Husband ordered a steak special over lentil salad. He said the steak was cooked perfectly but had no flavor. Lentils in the salad were hard and needed to be cooked longer. I ordered the artichoke quinoa salad. It amounted to a pile of very dry greens on one side of the plate and a timbale like thing with the quinoa and artichokes glued together with goat cheese on the other side of the plate. Not especially tasty either. I had to ask for some dressing. There was a piano player that evening, but the music was loud enough that I couldn't hear my husband across the table. Given all the delicious choices in Portsmouth I don't think we will be back here.
