Ruddick/Wood Ratings and Reviews
Disappointing meal on a Saturday night. Decided to stop in after a day touring wine country. Had reservations and got a booth right away. Then waited for a long time for someone to come by and get our order. Once we ordered, I was actually able to drive back to Dundee to pick up a hat I had left at Argyle and then get back before the appetizer was served. Waited another long time for our meal - which was cold when it arrived. It was obvious it had been sitting under the heat lamp for awhile. Thought about sending it back but I didn't want to wait another 1/2 hour. I ordered the lamb and my wife the chicken. Both would probably be good at a serving temp - but mine was so cool, it felt like I was having leftovers out of the fridge. We noticed several tables nearby that were waiting just as long (or longer) - so it wasn't just us. We could have complained but by the time the food arrived, we just wanted to eat and get out of there.
I like R/W very much, but maybe it was due to our group size this time? The service was very slow, and several of the dishes were prepared incorrectly. We ran out of time and couldn't address the errors, which is always unfortunate because then the restaurant doesn't know that they need to fix things. But I've been before and haven't had problems, so maybe it was due to there being 8 of us.
The food was excellent but the service was spotty. Our waiter didn't know he had our table to serve and didn't know the ingredients of one special and at least one menu item. He was apologetic but still didn't pick up his game. I'd give it another try. It could just be a new waiter or one-time glitch.
This was quite possibly the worst experience I have had. The waitress forgot to put our order in which was fine but 30 mins later still no food. It was a little over 1.5 hours until the food was finally ready and we had to get it to go. We both ordered fish which usually doesn’t take super long. When we did get home to eat, it was still warm but wasn’t even that great. I liked the bread, but I can buy that myself. They comped our drinks but does hat make up for the experience? Not really.
The food was decent and the staff was very good. They were especially very good at apologizing. Took 30 minutes to get seated and then a glass of wine. 6 diners, 3 apps come out then it was 15 minutes for the next 3, said they were "out of bowls". We're also out of good wine glasses.
Talked to others and apparently this is common. Food wasn't good enough to overcome the sloppy management and bare, uninvited guest space.
Really great local restaurant in Newberg perfect for dinner after enjoying wine tasting in the valley. Everything is farm to table, meat is butcher in restaurant so everything is fresh and different cuts daily. Even the meats on the charcuterie boards are butcher there. Love the atmosphere and staff was amazing. Dishes are creative. Highly recommend for dinner with friends or a date night
The wait staff was slow, forgetful, neglectful and the food was not the quality we expected for the cost. Waited 20 minutes for our beverages & another hour for dinner and I didn't get what I ordered... It was a dissapointing experience that we will not repeat.
We have dined here at least 5 times. This time the service and the food were not up to the standards from previous visits. I made a reservation for 8 and were promptly seated. Our waitress stood at the very end of the table and I could barely hear her. When she did go to take our orders I was literally yelling across the table to try and ask her about the specials. When the food arrived it came out at 4 different times. We were trying to wait for everyone else at our table to get their food before we ate but when we tasted our food it was warm so we went ahead and started to eat with out our friends getting their food. The waitress was not very warn in nature and at the very end of the evening when we went to pay she asked if there was a problem with our checks but what she forgot was that we had our money out on the table and were just waiting for her to pick them up. IF we come back we will probably just go sit in the bar.
We booked a table at RW based on proximity and other reviews and stumbled into a great dining experience. The service was top notch. Friendly informed staff. The food was prepared well and the menu had great variety.
We would definitely recommend a friend and will be back ourselves.
Had a great dinner at Ruddick/Wood while on a 4 day wine tasting vacation.
Located in a brick building on the main drag of Newberg. Nice rustic wood interiors w/ a very relaxed and laid back vibe, can dress very casual. There is a second dining room in the back, with a slightly different menu, but much noisier, and some outside seats next to the parking lot. Recommend the front dining room.
We shared a roasted beet salad, an Heirloom tomato salad w/ roasted peaches, and split a New York steak, with some locally brewed beers. Finished everything on the plates, as it was all fabulous.
Excellent food, good service, good pricing, well worth a visit and we would definitely go back.
I had high hopes for ruddick wood. I dined for lunch with a friend. Our table was sticky and our paper napkins were rumpled like they had been used before. I eat paleo style and found very little on the menu paleo friendly. I opted for the steak sandwich. I was expecting ciabatta bun but got slices of French bread. It was not substantial enough for the steak. With each bite I had to pull, tug, tear and I still couldn't get a bite off. Th steak was not good and much too hard to eat in the form of a sandwich. My friend had the pizza on pita. The pizza would have been much better in a thin pizza crust whole like all the other restaurants offer. Btw, when I ordered my steak sandwich the server asked me if I wanted salad or fries and so I ordered a salad. When we got the bill The salad was three dollars extra. That was NOT cool! She should have told me that before I ordered five pieces of lettuce leaves. We were both very disappointed.
This was my first visit to this restaurant and I look forward to going back. The food was deliciously prepared and beautifully presented. This is the type of restaurant where everything is made from scratch. Be prepared to have a leisurely dining experience of 1 1/2 to 2 hours. All of the wait staff are very friendly and know the menu. The chef, Paul Losch, and his staff create some wonderful seasonal salads and other additions as well as the food on the regular menu.
I recommend this restaurant highly.
When was the last time you ate 'braised sunflowers'? Well, we ordered this unique sounding dish and were delighted with the delicate flavor of the petite sunflower heads that were perfectly seasoned and braised. The board specials as well as the printed menu at R/W reflect seasonal dishes that are both creative and/or traditional and absolutely delicious! The waitstaff are knowledgeable and extremely accommodating which makes dining here even more memorable.
Food was not good. Flavors were strangely paired together and odd overall. The lamb hash dish was nothing close to a hash. Thick slabs lamb undercooked with vegetables on the side. The egg, sausage and biscuit sandwich was inedible. Crumbly biscuit that was overly sweet with a burnt egg and undercooked sausage patty. The beignets were undercooked on the inside (very gooey dough) but the outside was burnt. Really wanted to like the restaurant for brunch but will not be returning.
The services was generally lacking. The waitress was not able to describe dishes when asked. The menu would best be highlighted as what did we forage that day or pick from the flower garden and try to convince you it is something you should eat. Farm to table is one thing but this was beyond farm to table and there was not a lot of choice. We were disappointed.
Service from primary wait staff was poor - not very attentive. Secondary wait staff - Emily - made up for it and in hindsight I should have tipped her.
Ambience was great. Great venue for groups.
My group liked the food overall although "nothing to write home about"
I had lamb and whilst presentation was excellent, it was dry and over cooked.
We had hesitated going to Ruddick-Wood for dinner, as we had been to the tavern side a few times and were somewhat disappointed with the menu and beer selection (a lot of German beer in an area known for local craft brewing???). However, the restaurant was excellent. My son-in-law and I had the cavatelli special which was rich and wonderful. My husband and daughter had pork chops, done to perfection (not overdone!). The only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars was the service. Our server seemed a bit distracted and rushed. It was busy, but a great server will still make it seem as though you are the center of his/her attention while at your table.
We went here for "good food, casual atmosphere." The food was good, but not outstanding. There seems to be a mix of tavern atmosphere and attempt at haute cuisine. We had lamb and the pork chop. Both were adequate, but not "knock your socks off" in flavor or preparation.
Upon arriving the Resturant AC was broken. 86 degrees inside! They should have called to notify customers. WY to hot inside we left!
They also have a smaller outdoor area for burgers. This was fantastic. They try to keep this separate. Upon seeing it we ate there and the burgers were great.
