I really enjoy the food and the atmosphere of the resturant as well as where it is in Rye. I really have to question if the owner of this resturant wants repeat business, as the service was REALLY lousy, and it seemed as if sitting in this 70% occupied resturant was an inconvenience to the wait staff. The person at the front, who appeared to be the "acting manager" slumped at the front as if she had nothing to do and looked at my business associate and I at least 1/2 dozen times and just turned away. (She was not 20 feet from us). Maybe it was because we were not locals. We were polite, gracious, in business clothes, etc, but clearly service is not the priority. The food is GREAT. Eventually the wait staff will change, so will the manager. The owner is either so rich that he needs no growth, or he needs to have someone watch it one evening on his behalf, and report back. I highly recommend, I will go back, but I think I will sit at the bar to eat next time. If the service was just a little better, I would give this 5 starts because the food is always so good.
Great dinner! Calamari appetizer was very good. When asked for a recommendation, our server suggested the swordfish which was terrific. Ordered a nice bottle of wine and the server went to their sister restaurant to get it because they were out - that's attentive service. Only regret was that we weren't hungry enough for dessert too.
Brunch...nice menu. Different fare! Nicely served. Good wait staff...payed attention to my party. Would go back. Parking not so great for handicapped people. Many new pedestrian islands tookmaway from street parking, not sure why that was done. Shops should have been open...restaurant patrons could have shopped. Lost revenue for retailers.
I like Ruby's and we often go there when out-of-town colleagues are visiting. However, our waiter on Tuesday was the absolute worst, and that's not ok. The reason we go there is it's usually a consistent experience, and we can entertain there with no worries. I don't know what was going on Tuesday, it was very crowded and perhaps they were understaffed. If that happens again, Ruby's will be off the list.
Gave three stars because we've been before and had good service and on this occasion, the bartender was amazing while we waited for our table. However, once we were seated, the service was extremely slow, had to flag down our server repeatedly, bread was never served, tables around us came and went. We were basically forgotten.
Totally disappointed with our meal. The "grilled shrimp with quinoa" sounded awesome but should be taken off the menu immediately - soy soaked soggy quinoa totally ruined this superfood and the shrimp was tasteless - hard to believe it was grilled and not boiled. Calamari was oil soaked - too bad since it seemed fresh and was ruined. Just a total second rate experience and a real shame since Ruby's was always a trusty destination. Even the classic onion soup seemed sub-par.

We've been eating brunch here for several years, and have always had a nice time. Wine is 50% off on Sunday brunch; so that's an incentive, plus the food is good.
It was my wife and daughters birthday 65/30, so I decided to finally have dinner here. There were 7 of us. It was a real treat ordering the 3 tier lobster/shrimps, clams, oyster combination. Lots of fun, and considering the price, it was a steal since that served as our appetizers. Everyone was full, so additional items weren't necessary. Everyone ate around the menu. My wife had the salmon. I ordered the filet mignon, which was surprisingly good. Same goes for desserts. Thanks for singing happy birthday. Longfords ice cream a plus.
I did BYO. Cost is $20 per bottle. They actually have a decent winelist with good pricing.
Good or poor service can always tip a meal for better or worse. We got lucky with Eileen. She was a gem. Informative. Fun. Pleasant.
Looks like we have a new place to go to for dinner, since Morgans has started wearing me out.
We had an 8:30 pm reservation on Saturday. Upon arrival at exactly that time we met a disorganized crowd and a couple of hostesses that appeared overwhelmed. We were told that we would have a twenty minute wait and we did. When we asked for small forks for our oysters the waiter said he did not have any. If the place is named Ruby's Oyster house ,you would think they would have ample proper utensils to eat them. Bread was hard and ice cold. Fish dinner was fine.Underwhelming experience.
A nice, no-nonsense, not-fancy, enjoyable restaurant with good food and good options. Whether lighter fare, regular-size entrees, raw-bar towers, this is a fine choice for well-made food, especially seafood. I had onion soup and a two-tier raw tower (included oysters, mussels, clams, shrimp, lobster). All excellent. My companion had salad and the snapper special (served over sweet-potato mash and spinach). She loved it!
