Ruby's Oyster Bar and Bistro Ratings and Reviews
My husband and I went to Ruby's for my birthday, which also happened to be election day, so the atmosphere was a bit different than usual. Their oysters are always delicious, and I enjoyed the homemade pumpkin pie for dessert. This is a great date spot, especially for double dates as the atmosphere is energetic, however the noise level is on the high side so just know you won't be having quiet conversations. Overall, another great birthday dinner; Ruby's never disappoints!
We went when the town was having a special event, really nice one with kids painting windows. They took the Open Table reservation. We had to wait and were barraged with angry comments from others who did not have reservations. They were slammed so service was very slow and we did not get bread until long after people who were seated after us did. The fried oysters were rather dry and the tuna club was a bit fishy.
Three us had dinner and two were disappointed with their meals. The swordfish was tasteless and the garnish used canned pineapple. The pasta dish with seafood had three shell fish that were inedible, the calf's liver was, however, very good. The service was marginal. It had been over three years since our last visit and will probably be longer before the next.
I was a bit disappointed in my croque madame... the egg was burned on one side, the bread was actually "french toast" and sweet/cinnamon, which I personally don't care for (and wasn't described on the menu) so maybe I ordered badly. Fries resembled soggy oven-bake shoe strings, so not great either. My latte didn't come for 30 minutes, but the bill appeared in 30 seconds when we were ready to leave.
Despite moving tables twice, our meal was constantly interrupted by flies. And certainly not improved by a limp salad and a chewy chicken and crab special. Our waitress certainly gave it the old college try, but alas even the best of service cannot trump the worst of food.
My last meal there for sure.
While the food was good the service left a great deal to be desired. The windows in the front were open on an extremely hot and humid day. This prevented the restaurant from cooling off, and allowed flies and gnats flying around everywhere. Asking several times we were told the air is in and most windows were being closed. While I don't mind paying money for good food, I don't want to constantly swat flies and gnats while eating my lobster. It also took our waiter nearly 15 minutes after bringing dessert menus to ask if we wanted anything and to get a check. Very disappointing this visit. Finally, nothing was done on part of the restaurant.
This was not my first time to Ruby's but it's been a while since I had dinner there. I had lunch there recently and the cobb salad was very good. So, about dinner. Some things were very good but I can't get over the terrible, terrible monkfish they presented to me. It tasted like they cooked it with alcohol but didn't burn it off like they should and it was so awful. I ate one bite and left the rest. I didn't send it back because my kids (not children) always cringe when we complain about food. We were having a nice time and I just decided this once to let it go. The fried calamari was very good and everyone seemed to enjoy their meals. Our server was just okay - not the friendliest sort. I don't think I'd return for dinner but lunch perhaps. There are so many other places to dine. I think we spent over $300 with tip for 4 people.
We waited 20 minutes for our table. When we sat down two of us had dirty plates. The waitress was inattentive and the food was nearly inedible. The eggs were undercooked and the quality of the vegetables with the eggs was poor. I was surprised that it was as unsatisfactory as it was.
On arrival we were taken within 5 minutes of our reservation time. The restaurant was really crowded and the noise level was high. Our server was promptly at our table to take our drink orders, then returned in a short time to take our Oder for dinner. Our appetizers arrive in a short while. Our objection was that dinner arrived as soo as plates were cleared from the appetizers. We would've liked some time in between courses.
On the whole we would return to this charming restaurant.
Came here for a 4th of July lunch with my husband. Usually their service is great, but today they were under staffed and the 1 waitress, 1 busboy, 1 host were doing the best they could with a packed restaurant. It took a long time to get menus, orders in, drinks, food, etc., but it was a beautiful day and all the food was spectacular as per usual, so we really didn't mind. We felt that the staff really was handling the unfair conditions well and tried their best. The double tier was fresh and delicious, the tuna BLT was amazing, and the scallop cobb was yummy. The bloodies were great as well :) We'll be back again :)
Excellent and fresh seafood. The BBQ Rubbed Salmon was PERFECTly cooked and delicious! My son really enjoyed his Mussels frites and my husband the lobster, shrimp and mussels seafood over linguini. Food was excellent. But the restaurant was a little loud (small "wild" loud child seated nearby)...... hmm. maybe NOT the atmosphere in a BAR for a child? Otherwise the dinner would have been PERFECT!
