RT's Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
This is a delightful neighborhood bar and grill with fabulous Cajun/Creole food. Off the beaten track in a nice area of Alexandria, it’s actually my favorite eating place 9n the DC area. It’s just so unique. Great menu executed perfectly. And the food simply tastes great in the local tavern atmosphere. Try The she-crab soup and any of the crayfish dishes. If we’re in DC for theater, we always dine at RTs. Makes for a perfect day.
My wife and I went around 4pm on a Friday, and we were the only ones there. We sat at the bar and mingled with the bartender. He gave us a break down on what was good and what was to his liking. The food was better than I thought. The salads lacked flavor. Not sure if this place gets crowded after 5:30 but I was told it did. We left at 5:30 leaving one person at the bar. First time at this establishment, and overall it was pretty good. We would go back.
Delicious Food - this was the second time I've been there and had just the spicy Caesar and a bowl of the she-crab and it was excellent. My friend had a shrimp/crab appetizer in a sauce that was fantastic. We had the creme caramel for dessert and it was delicious. However, I did ask for a capuccino after dinner and their machine was broken. The waiter stated it had been broken for a while.
Creole style food was very good. Not quite New Orleans, but a nice effort. I had the oyster trio and they were excellent, just like the French quarter. The trout with shrimp were also very good, nice spice and flavor. The red beans and rice can’t match New Orleans, but aren’t bad for The DC area. My wife had the shrimp etouffee and it was good, just not quite as spicy and flavorful as you get in New Orleans. Overall a nice meal, fair price and good service.
Nearly 30 years on and my visits to RTs never fail. The food is consistently excellent with a great creole flair. We always get the house salad with the hearts of palm, but the other options are equally excellent. Make sure to ask for the specials (I particularly like the soft shells when in season).
We love RT's for it's Cajun-inspired menu, cozy atmosphere, attentive service. It never disappoints and is on our regular rotation of Arlington - Alexandria neighborhood dining spots. Although the latest revision to the wine list removed a couple of old favorites, we now have some new wines to try. When in season they are masters of the soft shell crab and their scallops wrapped in bacon, oysters and fried green tomatoes are must-have appetizers.
This was a great choice for a small family friendly restaurant. The food was delicious and the service was great. No glitz or glam, just personable, quaint restaurant with good food. Will definitely go back. The Rt's oatmeal pie was RIDICULOUS(in the best way!).
We were looking for a place to eat before a performance at Birchmere and this was a great choice. Not only is it right across the street, but the good is really good. The shrimp and crab etouffe is wonderful. The service is also friendly and good. We will certainly eat there the next time we go to the Birchmere.
Why have we waited so long to try RT's? Okay, the neighborhood isn't so great, but plenty of parking is available and it's easy to get to. Nice cozy atmosphere, friendly, attentive service and wonderful comfort food. The difficult part of the evening was trying to decide what to order - everything looked great. I'm looking forward to return visits!
This was our first time and I'll certainly be back. Great food, great service and a great evening celebrating my wife's birthday. The Death by Gumbo rocked! And the bacon wrapped scallops were cooked perfectly. Too bad I live three and half hours away or I'd be a regular. Can't wait to come back!
RT's is a great restaurant! The Cajun/Creole dishes are fantastic! We always have a hard time deciding what to order so everytime we get a couple of meals to go. Their Smothered Catfish, Death By Gumbo and Shrimp and Crawfish Catahoula are some of the best dishes we have ever tasted! We go back every year for our anniversary because neither of us wants to go any where else. It is quite a distance from our home, but definitely worth the drive!
