First time I had ever heard of this restaurant but wanted to take my mom somewhere good for her 70th birthday. RT's Restaurant received good Yelp reviews so I figured it would be safe to give it a try. When I told my mom where we were going, a few days later she mentioned that RT's Restaurant sounded very familiar to her. When we arrived there, it turns out she used to come to RT's for lunch with her former co-workers back in the 80's/90s and they all LOVED the restaurant. We both ordered the She Crab Soup and my mom said it's exactly as good as she remembers...I too was impressed.
I ordered the Trout and she ordered the Pecan Haddock, both were very very good! When dessert time came I passed because I was quite full but my mom wanted dessert and the server recommended the Oatmeal Pie. We both had never heard of this and thought it sounded so odd but since the server recommended it and said it was his favorite, mom ordered it. Oh. My. Goodness was it delightful!! I actually ate almost half of it, lol...but it was quite a good size slice so I didn't deprive mom of to much of it.
RT's keep up the great food and service!
I'm from New Orleans and this restaurant is the closest thing to home I've found.
My wife and I recently had the opportunity for a date night. We decided on dinner and a movie and I didn’t want to go to one of our usual spots. I remembered that RT’s had seafood so I looked them up. I loved what I saw on their menu but we’d gone here before many years ago and didn’t love it. I decided to give it a try and I am so glad that I did. Our server was fantastic. She was friendly and upbeat and very knowledgeable. No hesitations when explaining the specials and happily answered all of our questions. I had the cream of crab soup and the crab cakes and both were out of this world. I also tried a glass of the house Chardonnay and it exceeded my expectations. It really did. I’m sure that we’ll return again soon because it was just that good. I’m so glad that we gave RT’s a long overdue second try.
RT's has long been a favorite of ours, and they never disappoint. Delicious food, attentive service and a relaxing atmosphere.
Love this restaurant
Traveling for KS and came across RT's and ended up having a wonderful dinner and great service. Will hit again when in DC.
RT's was excellent as always. We took friends who had never been there, and they were as delighted as we always are. Two of us had the stuffed rockfish special and it was perfectly cooked and delicious. My friend had a steak and reported that it was great. My husband had the court-bouillon, as he often does, and it was just as great as usual. And our server John is one of the best in the business.
We discovered RT's several years ago on New Year's Eve. My husband is from New Orleans and the son of a chef. He is very critical of food advertised as New Orleans cuisine if it does not come correct. RT's is the only restaurant in the DC metropolitan area that he loves. He swears that if the chef is not from New Orleans he was taught there. The food is always wonderful and the atmosphere cozy. I highly recommend RT's to everyone, you will not be disappointed.
Good food, friendly, accommodated a large party, convenient.
RTs has been around forever. Great Cajun food, great service and kind of a little gem in a poor latino community.
This restaurant is a jewel. Superb service, remarkable food. Chefs deliver your ask, menu item or not. Creative and scrumptious. You will not leave a bite!
After multiple visits for special occasions, our dinner on Feb 27 2018 was a surprising disappointment on most fronts. Slow service. Over cooked calamari. Dried out filet mignon. Too salty Shrimp Diane. Watery cokes. Feeling shoved into a corner booth too close to the other customers rather than seated in the other dining room as if staff was too limited to accommodate another room.
If this had been our first visit, we would not return. We'll give it another try in a few months, hoping for a return of what we'd come to value: great food, attentive service, casual and comfy ambiance.
It is amazing that this restaurant has still maintained a consistent and reputable menu and atmosphere. The she-crab soup was delicious, and the broiled stuffed shrimp were tasty. The service was attentive and non-obstructive, yet efficient. There is a large parking lot across the street from the restaurant. I will not wait so long to return to RTs.
The decor is a little dated, but the food was good.
Not in an area you would expect s restaurant to be. New Orleans type food. Not too spicy. Food was average. Thought prices were a bit high.
Awesome as usual! Great food and drink and very attentive service!!!
I had totally forgotten about RTs and decided to return. The food and service were both excellent. I loved the She Crab Bisque and the Seafood in Parchment Paper was excellent. Prices are not bad at all and the service is pretty good. Definitely one to try in the Arlandria area.
Very good, down home Cajun food. First time visit and expect to go back soon and often. Very busy on a Sunday evening, clearly a local favorite hides behind the unassuming entrance. Pre-dinner Sazerac cocktail hit all the marks. She-crab soup was rich and absolutely delicious. Loved the Oysters Nezpique and the red beans and rice. Most main number dishes ran in the $20-$25 range with many oyster options. Very respectable wine list; the Gruner Veltliner went very well will the food and there were many other varietals available by the glass. Yes, the presentation and ambiance is more 60’s fish restaurant, but it has its own charm. It does not hurt that there is a free public parking lot just half a block south of the restaurant.
The quality of the cuisine is a pleasant surprise in this warm and cozy neighborhood gem. We were especially impressed by the extensive and sophisticated menu selections. Definitely a reliable dinner favorite.
This place is very low key with amazing food! Although I was here for a date, it was perfect! It wasn't crowded and the waitress was very attentive. The food is on the expensive but the portions of food was perfect! I would definitely return again when I'm in the area.
Plus it's free parking across the street!
Good and service was great. Would recommend if someone is looking for flavorful, authentic Cajun food.
Enjoyable with friends from out of town. It’s a neighborhood gem:
I can’t believe I’ve never been here before. But I will from now on. Everything was delicious. The Shorts Ribs were extremely tender and well flavored, the fish with Etoufee was also delicious. But what made it even better was our Server, Kat. She was great! Can’t wait to return.
Wonderful dining experience as always. My shrimp and crab catahoula was delicious, as always, and my husband loved his stuffed rockfish special. And John is a terrific server.
RT's is always a reliable choice. Their oysters prepared ANY way are large and fresh, and served ice cold when they should be cold, and well prepared when they are cooked as an appetizer, salad, or main course. The Gumbo was great. And, the filet was equally as good--not to mention the grilled veggies. IF you are a chocolate lover, the mouse is a great choice for desert.
I took my fiancé out for a date on Friday night at 6:45. The place was not packed but definitely full of people. The server was very attentive and treated us to the best service I’ve had in a long time! I usually have the worst luck with service but this was above average for sure. You have to try the She-crab soup, go ahead and opt for the bowl instead of a cup for only $1 more you’ll be glad you did! I ordered the soup and also the smothered catfish. It’s fried catfish smothered in shrimp ettoufee served with their signature rice! Absolutely amazing! Overall great food and service nothing to complain about here!
The etouffee was okay, apparently it's difficult to make outside of NOLA.
Excellent food at a great price. It was our first visit but not our last!
RT's is a long-time local favorite. The Louisiana-style entrees are delicious, ample portions.
As always, dining here is an absolute pleasure for me. This time I even tried a dish (shellfish etoufee) on the special menu and really enjoyed it. I'll be returning soon.
Celebrated Fat Tuesday and Valentine's Day all in one. Food and service was outstanding. The best gumbo, crab cakes, and oysters we've had in a long time. Hurricane was New Orleans quality and highly recommend using UBER if you drink more than one. Go there about every 6 months and have never been disappointed.
Great Mardi Gras celebration for a New Orleans expat living in NOVA
The food is always so amazing...shellfish in parchment wow!
True New Orleans flavors, in a comfortable family setting. Great service too.
RT's a great neighborhood restaurant with a Cajun and seafood menu. I've been going for years and my favorite is Saturday lunch where I can relax in a booth in the bar area. Nice glass of wine and crawfish beignets as a warm up to crab stuffed flounder. Heaven.
Always a good meal....! We drive all the way from Columbia, MD just to dine there.
My friends and I go to RTs at least once a month! This week they had their Restaurant Week menu, so we got three courses for $35.00. That was a good deal! We had crab soup, which was delicious and very good for a cold day. I had the shrimp and grits which was quite tasty. Last but not least I had the oatmeal pie, which sounds kind of weird, but is sort of like a chess pie. They make great cocktails too! Their food is Cajun, a definite New Orleans vibe. It is reasonably priced. RTs is a nice neighborhood place, but can get crowded, so be sure to make yourself a reservation -- through Open Table of course!
The restaurant week menu was quite limited and underwhelming. The good news is that the price really wasn't discounted so ordering off the regular menu was the same. Would have been nice to have a specially prepared menu. Also, our waiter was testy which made the experience a bit unpleasant (language issues on his part). As far as the food goes, there was a little too much salt on the crab dish but otherwise it was delicious.
The food was very good: Gumbo, smothered catfish, crabcake, alligator stew, bread pudding. Although the garlic butter rice tasted like boxed rice, the rest of the food made up for It! The service was very good too! Overall, it was a nice experience and I would visit again. There is convenient free parking across the street. The prices are reasonable as are the portions.
We have been wanting to try RJ's for a long time - mainly based on the fact that they have She-Crab soup.
So with a great menu option during Restaurant week we opted to finally try for lunch.
The service - the food - the vibe in the room all went above expectations.
One couple as they were leaving stopped to talk to another 'new' visitor. They mentioned that they have been coming here every week for years and never had a bad meal. I believe it.
We can't wait to go back to try so many menu options - from catfish to crab cakes.
I am not a bread pudding fan - but my other half declared it delicious - the chocolate mousse was not sweet and yummy!
