RT's Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
My third visit was just as tasty as my prior dinners. Reservations are a good idea for weekends. Special of salmon and shrimp in basil cream sauce was fabulous. Beef with horseradish mashed potatoes was also excellent. Always too full for dessert. Only negative is tables are too close together.
This is a wonderful gem that my husband and I stumbled across. Went here after a Kennedy Show and was pleasantly surprised. The food is amazing!
My husband is still talking about the shecrab soup (5 out of 5 stars)
DeathbyGumbo (5 out of 5)
Smothered Catfish (4 out of 5)
We will def. put this on our list of favorite restaurants!
Love the food, particularly the gumbo, red beans and rice and shrimp and crawfish etouffe. Food is rich and full of flavor. I ordered the Cajun veal Oscar, which was a treat - tender meat, sautéed perfectly, with a tasty blend of crab, Holland side and Cajun spices.
How did I miss this place? I've driven by it hundreds of times. Admittedly, it's not much to look at from the outside ... or the inside for that matter lol. But my oh my, the food and the service definitely make this a permanent addition to my rotation. We each started with a cup of gumbo. Deep, rich roux was the first sign that things were off to a great start. Everything we ate was delicious. Fried foods were crispy but not greasy. Sauces were piquant. Most important, the service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. I'll definitely be back!
Fabulous experience, as always. RT's offers the most authentic south Louisiana cuisine in the DC area in a neighborhood tavern style atmosphere. The service is friendly, attentive and accommodating to large groups with the same enthusiasm and courtesy as given to a couple. And the gumbo, etouffee and seafood dishes are consistently excellent. I've yet to find anything on the menu that I wasn't impressed with.
We didnt understand the high reviews for this place. While the service was very friendly and attentive, the food wasnt very good and it was expensive for what it was. While we love cajun/creole and typically enjoy more 'off the beaten track' type places, everything here just seemed very meh/sub-par.
This was the 3rd time we have been to RTs. It's a half-hour from our neighborhood so we were lucky to stumble upon it the first time but have enjoyed every visit. The ambiance is friendly and unpretentious. The service is warm and attentive. And the food is consistently excellent. The art is quirky, unexpected, and worth a close look.
I was literally at RT's on its opening night, 33 years ago. Came back into town to attend a show at the Birchmere and just had to head back over.
It is every bit as good as it was decades ago. So glad the Jack Daniels Shrimp is still a staple on the menu. It did not disappoint.
The short ribs fell off the bone and the Veal Oscar was sublime.
Looking forward to getting back there on our next NoVA, DC trip!
I have taken dozens of people here over the years. Everybody loves it. Most people say something like, "This is the best fish/seafood/whatever I have ever had." Perfect cocktails. It is straightforward and not even trying to be fancy - but very comfortable and lovely with a mixed clientele of couples, business diners, colleagues, and families. Expert service.
I have been coming to RT's for years and the level of service and the quality of food have still been on point throughout the years. As a native to Louisiana, this is THE only Cajun/creole restaurant in the DMV area that I approve of and/or will eat at. I do highly recommend dining here, it is a hidden gem.
First time at this gem and the entire party enjoyed the Cajun inspired dishes. The waitstaff was great and the food was tasty and not overly salty. We will most def go back before the year is out. This is our new spot without having to travel to D.C. Also, check out the amazing artwork.
This is a delightful neighborhood bar and grill with fabulous Cajun/Creole food. Off the beaten track in a nice area of Alexandria, it’s actually my favorite eating place 9n the DC area. It’s just so unique. Great menu executed perfectly. And the food simply tastes great in the local tavern atmosphere. Try The she-crab soup and any of the crayfish dishes. If we’re in DC for theater, we always dine at RTs. Makes for a perfect day.
My wife and I went around 4pm on a Friday, and we were the only ones there. We sat at the bar and mingled with the bartender. He gave us a break down on what was good and what was to his liking. The food was better than I thought. The salads lacked flavor. Not sure if this place gets crowded after 5:30 but I was told it did. We left at 5:30 leaving one person at the bar. First time at this establishment, and overall it was pretty good. We would go back.
Delicious Food - this was the second time I've been there and had just the spicy Caesar and a bowl of the she-crab and it was excellent. My friend had a shrimp/crab appetizer in a sauce that was fantastic. We had the creme caramel for dessert and it was delicious. However, I did ask for a capuccino after dinner and their machine was broken. The waiter stated it had been broken for a while.
