RT's was one of our favorite restaurants. Our appetizer was delicious, but our entrees were just so, so.
RT's has been one of our long time Alexandria favorites, and has maintained its excellence throughout the years as Alexandria and the neighborhood have changed. The food is absolutely excellent, the wine list (while not extensive) matches the food well, and the beer and mixed drink selections are very good. The crab and shrimp dishes in particular are terrific, and I love the oatmeal pie dessert.
Great neighborhood restaurant boasting delectable menu selections, delicious food and a casual dining atmosphere.
Finally visited here for my birthday with family. The entire party hasn't arrived yet and they sat us anyway which is nice because most places make you wait to be seated. Waitress very attentive and we didn't even have to tell her it was my birthday because she asked what was the special occasion. Nice touch. The food and appetizers were delicious and the waitress surprised me with dessert! Definitely will be back!
Have been going to RTs for years and it never disappoints. The food is always perfectly prepared and delicious, the service excellent. A great place to meet for lunch or dinner with friends.
Good food, fairly good portion to price ratio, good service.. no complaints. Will return.
Always “two thumbs up” for RTs. The staff is friendly, patient, never rush ordering in order to turn tables, a family like atmosphere. You set your dining pace. I’m becoming a regular. Food is excellent and easily can compete with New Orleans (Ninth Ward) establishments. So if you been to the 9th you understand. Some favorites to date; gumbo, pasta jambalaya and Po Boy (shrimp).
Another amazing experience at the famous RT’s Restaurant! Flawless service and wonderful food all with a quaint and quiet feel for a great date night or dinner with friends. I’ve referred many people and will continue to do so. Obviously I will be returning! A+++
Great Authentic food, friendly service and great prices!
A great, quant little getaway, that's off the beaten path and has a relaxed, welcoming ambiance. The Shecrab soup is excellent. Don't let the exterior fool you, it is a nice, cozy place that you'll be inclined to return to again and again.
My wife and I come here every year for Valentines Day, and are always rewarded with great food. The crawfish etouffee was simply exceptional.
We LOVE RT's. The food is the best Creole this side of NOLA! We make our way to RT's probably 4 times a year as it is quite a way from our home but very worth the trip!
Everything we have had has been excellent, but we love the Smothered Catfish, the Death by Gumbo and the Crab and Shrimp Etouffe'. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The portions are healthy. The service is always great! You are greeted warmly when you enter, the bartender always says hello and the servers seem to take pride in their work. The experience is just wonderful!
Loved loved loved the food!
The menu is focused on Cajun cuisine, but it was not Cajun. Being from the Gulf Coast, that's typical food for me and my family. The "roux" was brown gravy and had no spice to it. Food didn't taste bad, just had no Cajun/Creole flavor.
We Always receive great service & delicious food. Staff is always friendly.
After so many years in business, RT's continues to provide surprisingly authentic New Orleans-style dishes: I have a hard time deviating from crawfish etouffe, and the oysters are usually a must-have. This one time, two of us were a bit disappointed in the appetizer dish of oysters three ways. All three are usually delicious, but of the six oysters (three for each of us), both of us had only one decent-sized oyster, one shell with a tiny oyster piece (1/2 inch, maybe?) and I couldn't find any oyster in my third shell. I'm sure if I had the chance to tell our waitress about it, there would have been some remedy - but, she never asked us how our meal was going until after someone else had already cleared our plates. Never mind, we will absolutely keep going to RT's and will mention the issue up front next time. We like the specialty cocktails and the wine list, and though we are usually too full to order dessert, we did share the coconut cake and it was amazing! This is one of our favorite restaurants, so I must say: please be attentive in the kitchen when you're preparing the first course oyster dishes!!
The food, service, and drinks was outstanding. If you never been to this restaurant I recommend you go. You won't be disappointed.
Food is always fabulous. I bring people here all the time and it never disappoints. It’s old fashioned in decor but it doesn’t matter-the food and the service are always great! It would be nice if you had more of a Rose collection.
Great food - decor is basic - neighborhood was not for walking around / overall great and I would go back!
As always, the south Louisiana fare was authentic and superb. First time we tried the Shrimp Norman - fried shrimp, lump crab meat covered with étouffée sauce. Simply outstanding Also order crab cakes which were all limp crab meat, no filler, lightly seasoned and flavorful.
Love the food and service. Will highly recommend to family and friends.
The first time visiting RT great food will be back.
Smart is a great waiter. The parking situation is greatly improved with access to the lot across the street. Disabled parking is unavailable near your restaurant location but you probably don ‘ t control that. We’ll e back again as we have got many years.
Mitu customer service was excellent! This was our first time, but certainly not our last! From the drinks to the main course, we were thoroughly satisfied.. We will be back!
We went during restaurant week. Unfortunately we were sat near the kitchen which was kind of loud. Being from Louisiana, Cajun country, I was excited to try the food here. The chicken and andouille sausage gumbo was fine, not enough liquid. Taste was ok, not bad, but not great. I had the fried shrimp and crab etouffe. This dish was ok, I didn’t care for my shrimp being mixed with my etouffeI would have liked them to the side. My husband had the blackened mahi-mahi. This dish was very good. I recommend ordering a vegetable to go with it as it only comes with rice. For dessert we had the chocolate mousse which was very good.
Stumbled upon it but it was a great choice and everything was really superb
The food was fabulous! Very authentic Cajun cuisine. They gave us a free dessert to share because it was my husband's birthday. I highly recommend the craw fish ettoufee (sic?) and the craw fish and red beans and rice. We will go there again.
Excellent Creole seafood entrees and NOLA-themed cocktails. If you’re missing the taste of Creole comfort food, try RT’s. A restaurant doesn’t stay in business 33+ years by serving bad food. I’ve eaten here 3 times on business trips, and never been disappointed.
The Crawfish & Shrimp Beignets are unique and so very tasty, and the she-crab soup has just the subtlest bit of heat. Shrimp and Grits (for RW) was totally delicious, with plenty of tasso ham. We were too full to eat dessert, so got it to go--Do NOT pass up dessert! I brought home the oatmeal pie and it was perfect the next day, complete with separately packaged caramel and cinnamon whipped cream.
Best She Crab soup in the area!!
We went at 1 p.m. and the restaurant was not crowded, so we were comfortable. It is not a stuffy place! We ordered from the restaurant week menu. I had the alligator stew (real alligator our waiter said), and it was excellent!! In fact everything was beyond expectation. The portions were small, but at least I didn't need to worry about overeating. I can't wait to go back!
Restaurant week menu was Totally Awesome!
Cajun 75 cocktail was the best.
The food was delicious, but portion sizes were ridiculously small, particularly given the cost. We each got the restaurant week gumbo, shrimp and grits, and bread pudding. You’d think the gumbo would have at least been the bowl instead of cup given that it cost $1 more than the cup and that still put it substantially less than the cost of the other appetizers on the restaurant week menu. The shrimp and grits was about the size you would expect for an appetizer, and the dessert was very small too. All in all, this was a delicious but tiny and ridiculously overpriced meal that leaves us inclined not to return.
Everything was outstanding! We were first time diners and came in for restaurant week but so much on the regular menu looked amazing that we had three courses off the regular menu. Andouille and Chicken Gumbo starter, Spicy Pecan Crusted Haddock and Coconut Melvin Cake should not be missed. We will definitely be back! Our server, Kat, and the entire team worked together for a great experience. True professionals - no wonder the place has been there for more than 30 years!
Awesome tasting food....great service
Don’t tell anyone about it! It’s too good! Unexpected great quality seafood at reasonable prices serves in a classic old fashioned bar/restaurant!
RT's is classic, refined, New Orlean's style fine dining. They have the beloved finely crafted cocktails, such as Sazeracs and Vieux Carres, along with some excellent new blends, as you can see ahead of time on the web site menu. The menu offers a full selection of fine wines, appetizers, soups, salads, and entrees with a focus on New Orleans cuisine. Our server was an old school professional, who was able to provide guidance when we asked for diet accommodations. As the food arrived, my guests sighed with delight. I had the Death by Gumbo, which set my heart aflutter. Others at the table enjoyed Restaurant Week selections of seafood etouffe, steak frites, the blackened mahi mahi, salads, and she-crab soup. The service was attentive without being overly intrusive. And the 6 of us were able to hear each other without raising our voices, even though the restaurant was fully booked. If you appreciate New Orleans cuisine, and fine dining. book your table.
RT’s is fantastic. RT’s has been fantastic since long before cell phones, let alone open table.
Highly recommended to anyone. But, if you’re a millennial or some other transplant and your idea of a good dinner is the rooftop at Clarendon ballroom or Lyon Hall, please just go there and leave our awesome neighborhood gem alone! If you like amazing Cajun food, good cocktails, and you yourself are not annoying, go to RT’s!!
An uncommon gem
Small portions compared to the price.
