Casual atmosphere. Food was amazing, had oysters, death by gumbo, cocktails and oatmeal pie. One of the best meals I’ve ever had.
The food and service here is always great. And it is convenient to the Birchmere.
Best creole north of St Charles. We've spent a lot of time in NOLA and RT's helps us know what it means to miss New Orleans. Seafood & fish (always fresh) dishes are spot on. Service is friendly & knowledgeable. Try a Sazerac!
Just okay for a restaurant touted as one of the top 100 southern food in the country. A special of fried green tomato poor boy was just barely ok as fried tomatoes were over battered and bacon was tough. Disappointed for a side trip in Olde Town Alexandria.
Real Cajun!! There are a number of spots in the DMV area boasting about authentic Cajun (New Orleans style dining). This one is for real! Really good food and good service. This is not the atmosphere for a romantic evening or secluded dining. But if you desire to get down like they do in the The Big Easy try RT’s. One of my favorites is Soft Shell Crab with a side of Crawfish Succotash. Crab Cake (broiled) is nothing but crab.
Made a reservation through open table for two on a Sunday evening for 5:00 pm. No other customers were present, so we were promptly seated about 15 minutes early. Service was wonderful, food was excellent from appetizers through dessert. Cocktails were fair, although a little pricey. Although, compared to some other neighborhood restaurants it may seem a little pricey, I continue to visit it, because of its location and good food. Interior could stand a little updating. Definitely will return.
I have been meaning to dine here for years. I am so glad I finally came. Everything was superb.
Service was great. Food was divine. This was not my first time at RT’s and certainly won’t be my last.
We frequent RTs occasionally, and the food selections are always GREAT! We have tried many appetizers, main menu and dessert items, and never disappointed.
RTs is my favorite restaurant! The food is excellent and so is the staff! I have been there for lunch numerous times, especially when I worked downtown. My husband and I have been for anniversaries, birthdays, and every time we go to a show across the street at the Birchmere. Last year we celebrated my mother's 95th birthday there. We had over 30 family members there. The menu options were excellent and reasonably priced. The staff was diligent in making my mother's special day memorable.
Great food and service. One of my absolute favorites!
Food is good, but dinner prices are a little steep. I would recommend going for lunch.
We have had the Crawfish & Shrimp Beignets for appetizer. It was great and stove-hot. We were wishing for 4 beignets instead of 3. The spicy cornbread croutons in the Creole Caesar Salad were fresh and hot (temperature). The Trout Orleans with the Spicy Shrimp, Lump Crab & Hollandaise sauce was wonderful. The shrimps, lump crab, and the sauce were better than the trout. The Cajun Veal Oscar was loaded with
with Spicy Lump Crab, Crawfish, Spring Onions & Bearnaise sauce. Each dinner came with a side dish. I could not finish mine. The wait staff was very attentive. We will be back. This restaurant is a gem.
A great neighborhood restaurant! The gumbo and étouffée were a great reminders of New Orleans flavors.
Food was awesome. Definitely a must try!!! You won’t be disappointed.
I took my niece, who was visiting from Boston, to dinner. RTs is always excellent. My niece had the crabcakes, which she enjoyed, and I had pecan-crusted haddock, which I loved. We shared chocolate chess pie. The crust could use some improvement, but the chocolate was delicious.
Went for restaurant week. The food was excellent. The She Crab soup was to die for. Will definitely go back.
A great restaurant with universally good food - very helpful staff! A huge asset to the neighborhood !
We went for Restaurant Week and would definitely return another time for the regular menu. All of the food was great!
RT's food stays true to its cajun origins. Very reliable for a good meal. The decor could be updated--hasnt offered anything fresh such as paint or carpet in many years.
Excellent food in a hole-in-the-wall setting. If you're looking for high-end food without the typical high-end restaurant atmosphere, this is the place.
We love RTs. The many friends we have taken there have all returned. Excellent all around!
Went during Alexandria Restaurant Week and enjoyed my visit. However if participating in restaurant week it would be nice to offer items from the regular menu on the special menu.
This place can really deceive you. From the outside, it looks like a whole in the wall in a shady kind of neighborhood. But once you go inside, you can tell it’s where the locals go to find great food and you can smell the creole seafood that makes this place a gem in this neighborhood. Their cocktails are amazing and the food.... the food is packed with Louisiana flavors! I’ve never tried anything I didn’t like! From appetizers to desserts! My mouth is watering as I’m writing. My husband usually gets the shrimp ettouffee and I get the crab imperial. Their crab cakes are always lumpy and their creole food reminds me of my trip to New Orleans. My friend and I went for restaurant week and that didn’t disappoint! Great bargain for their amazing food. So don’t judge the book by its cover! ;) if you like seafood, you are going to love this place!
I did not make a reservation for RT's restaurant on August 16th. I do not know how that happened. I did have a previous reservation at RT's, I believe it was in July, and I did eat there. Perhaps there was a reservation system error. God Bless.
Delicious food and great wait staff. Would definitely go again!
My husband and I were blown away by our meals. The restaurant has a deceptive appearance, but inside its a warm, welcoming, fantiastic neighborhood gem. Truly a taste right out of New Orleans, right in VA. Our entire meal was delicious from the fried green tomatoes, to the shrimp, and ending with the mind-blowing oatmeal pie. Definitely go here!
Jack Daniels shrimp was fabulous and crab cakes were to die for
The food was authentic and delicious, but the place was a bit outdated.
The food is absolutely amazing. I am a seafood guru and the dishes were a true delight. Will be back again.
Amazing as always! RT's is without a doubt one of the best restaurants in the DC area...
So glad to have stumbled across RT's on Open Table this evening. The restaurant is not somewhere I would have stopped just driving by, but I'm so glad we went. Everything was fantastic! The service was wonderful, everyone was so friendly and made great recommendations. The food was absolutely delicious. We will definitely be going back.
Always AMAZING!!! We have been coming here for years & RT’s NEVER disappoints!!!
Great food great vibes!
One of my favorite places. This seasoned restaurant does a great job with Cajun/creole food. There’s something for everyone. Service is efficient and friendly.
This is a good find for seafood lovers. I enjoyed the she-crab soup and the fried oysters. Free parking in the nearby lot was a nice bonus.
RTs is fantastic and the food is superb! I definitely plan to return again and again.
RT's is not what it used to be. Several people in our party had to return their food, either because it was cold, burnt or didn't taste good. Sad to say this because RT's has been one of the local favorites for many, many years. This happened once before a few months ago, but we just thought it was a bad day, but it seems to be the norm. Maybe change back to the recipes/chefs/sous chefs/line cooks you had before! Just a suggestion.
I love RTs. I have come out of my way to go here at least once or twice a year for many years. Everytime I go it is exactly the same — just the way I like it. Great New Orleans food and drink, comfortable, charming atmosphere, very good service. Please don’t ever change. What a gem, a true original in the Washington DC area. While everyone else is chasing the trends, RTs just serves up its own thing, perfect, timeless.
We go often and it’s ALWAYS GREAT
