RPM Italian Ratings and Reviews
We have eaten at RPM Italian a number of times and always enjoyed great food with excellent service but this time was different. Our waiter was not engaged, seldom present and partially presented the specials. This became more obvious as the meal dragged on as we saw the informative and attentive service being lavished upon a neighboring table by a different waiter. The food was very good but we seemed to wait a long time between our apps and the main course. After the table was cleared we waited 15 minutes until our server reappeared, so we passed on dessert rather than wait again.
We live in the area and this was our go to Italian place, I hope it is better next time.
I would’ve give this restaurant a perfect review had we had a different experience when first getting to the restaurant. The host was rude and snotty. Not welcoming at all! They are the first impression of the restaurant.
The bartender was knowledgeable about her wines, and offered a very nice choice.
The server was friendly and knowledgeable however she did not get our order correct and we never received our side dishes.
The food we did receive was fantastic.
The food was amazing! My boyfriend and I went for our anniversary and it was the perfect setting for a special occasion. We got the focaccia bread to start and it was hands down the best focaccia bread I have ever had. Then we had the zucchini fritti which was a huge portion, probably a better appetizer for at least a table of 4... we had plenty leftover but still very good and light for it being a fried food. Then instead of entrees we decided to each get a pasta dish and then split a side dish. I got the procuitto tortellini and he got the short rib bolognase. Both loved the pasta dishes! They were on the smaller side but with our appetizers we had, they were the perfect size. The side dish we chose was crispy Brussels sprouts and they were the best Brussels sprouts we have ever had! Best meal I have had in a long time, would definitely recommend it. Overall, great food and good atmosphere. Very dim lighting so it feels very intimate, but on the pricier side so more for a special occasion.
We had a nice dining experience that started with the valet parking. Coming in from out-of-town, it was nice not to worry about parking. After dinner, we wanted to visit the neighborhood and the valet went beyond their duty and retrieved our coats. What great customer service.
The hosts were sociable and we had a reservation and were promptly seated. The server was kind as well as the other staff. The server, hosts, and busers all made sure our table was clear and our water topped off.
The best part was, of course, the food. We started off with the Itilian Salad. The depth of flavored were spot on. If we had known the salad was so good we would have eaten the it as a meal. The eggplant parmesan was tasty and had lots of gooey cheese. The roast chicken was good but you had to watch out for the red pepper flakes. The chicken portion was big enough for two people.
Our dining experience was very good and we would like to return to try out the other menu items.
Overall it was a fun night. Our server was helpful, when he was around. The food was delicious and perfect portions for sharing. There were 8 ladies and we were all comfortably stuffed. My negatives come from being seated 30 minutes late. It was beyond frustrating when we are told our tables ready but our entire party must be there. The entire party arrives within 5 minutes and the table is gone!?!
The other problem was how slow everything moved. I had 2 drinks during our 3 hour dinner. I asked for 4 drinks but 2 never arrived. The espresso took 25 minutes?! Why? Just when I thought we were good the food would take an additional 15 minutes to arrive. The flow of the evening would stall.
Although we had a great time, I probably wouldn’t go back unless someone else plans the night out. There are amazing options in this city with better service.
We expected so much from this place after all the amazing reviews we've read. What a disappointment. Working in the hospitality industry, we go to a lot of places and love good and tasty food. This place is incredibly expensive for what you have in your plate. There is no balance in the flavors and we don't really see the point of some of the items on the menu. We took for exemple the tuna tartare and steak tartare. The tuna was on garlic bread and had no taste by itself. You could only taste garlic and oil, which is not why I ordered this item. I would have gone for a bruschetta then! Steak tartare was a little bit better but again, the pseudo aioli took all the spotlight and you didn't feel any meat. The scallops (3 pieces for $32 with no side !!!!!) were good but not crazy and certainly not worth the price. Indeed, they were just seared with peanuts so no surprise here. I could go on and on because we tried several meals as recommended by the waitress but the overall experience was not good. We will certainly not go back to the place and do not recommend to our circle.
My dish, eggplant parm, was very disappointing. Looked like pre-made and just thrown into a microwave. My guests seem to enjoy their steak and fish. Meatball app was also fair, cheese was normal. The wine list is ridiculously pricey and with this being a business meal, i found it difficult to find a wine that was good and not outrageously priced.
The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. But the portions are small. I thought the pasta prices seemed fair until the tiny plates came out. Come on! $14-16 for a pasta that is not the size of a decent side dish. It is especially unfair when you consider that every entree is entirely ala carte (not so much as a piece of parsley) so you must order something. But I would still recommend it bc the food was that good.
Good restaurant, attentive and respectful staff. The food was really good. Recommend Mediterranean Sea Bass as a main dish. The fish was prepared very well with just the right amount of seasoning and not overcooked. Overall lovely experience and even the car came back in one piece after valet, which is a bonus. ;-)
4 of us came here after Hamilton (after 11 pm!), so we were looking for quiet, nice ambience, and small to medium food options. RPM Italian was perfect. James was our server, and he was great. Food recommendations and wine pairing recommendations made by James after he asked each of us about likes and preferences were spot on.
Highlights included Italian salad, all the pastas and the eggplant. 3 desserts (pistachio gelato, affogato , rice pudding) all great.
Lovely restaurant with excellent food, reasonably priced, and outstanding service from James,
Got there early and snagged a table near the bar. Attentive waiter. Started with drinks and fried olives, both excellent. Then focaccia, very good, and stuffed peppers on which we disagreed. Small plate bolognese was good not great; the spicy crab pasta was another split vote. Ended with some sort of chocolate torte, which we could not finish. Also very tasty. My only issue with the evening: it was my wife’s birthday and we drove 3.5 hours (one way) to dine at RPM. Don’t really care about any free dessert, but when you make reservations through Open Table and indicate it’s a birthday visit, I’d like someone from the restaurant to say Happy Birthday to my wife. Hostess, waiter, guy who brings dessert, whomever. If the concierge at the hotel can do it, so can somebody from RPM.
Fair to start by saying it was a Saturday and crowded, service was mediocre, I.e. sitting with dirty dishes and waiting long periods of time for cocktails, my daughter and husbands chairs continually being bumped by staff. Food was good but I have to say it was to loud and frenetic I probably wouldn’t go back.
This is a good date night spot in the city. Delicious cocktails and good wine. We had the lobster caprese (very good), garlic toast (amazing), chopped salad (pretty good), cavatelli (spicy good), gnocchi (decent), eggplant parm (just ok), mashed potatoes (great) and chocolate budini (amazing). Our server could have been more attentive and we were placed near the door which was very chilly - since we were there for a special occasion I would have appreciated a better table.
