RPM Italian Ratings and Reviews
Our server Patrick was AMAZING. Knew the menu so well and everything he suggested was on point. I’m already planning my next trip back.
Only complaint was that I wish managers took time to visit tables. I saw multiple managers stop by one table but never checked on anyone else.
But overall great experienced and we can’t wait to go back!
My boyfriend and I went to RPM last night for our anniversary and had an all-around AMAZING experience. From the ambiance to the fantastic wait staff to the wonderful food and drinks, we were more than pleased. Our waitress’s name was Jackie and she was prompt, knowledgeable, and friendly. Jackie was awesome, but the whole staff impressed me. At one point my boyfriend spilled almost half of his drink on the table and one of the “bus boys” came out of nowhere to clean it up before we even had a chance to react! Seriously, these guys are paying attention! We were given free mini gelato for dessert which was a nice touch to celebrate our anniversary. We had the cavatelli, which was amazing, the best Brussel sprouts ever, garlic bread, and chicken Parmesan. Everything was top notch! We will definitely be back- thanks RPM staff and Jackie!
We loved everything about our experience but if I had to have one complaint it would be the pork chop dish. It was presented poorly on the plate. It looked a pork chop just thrown on plate. No garnish no sauce, nothing. Was a little dry but I will definitely come back and stick to pasta..
I'd wanted to try out RPM Italian for several years and finally got the chance last night. My friend and I took advantage of the Restaurant Week menu and coordinated our orders so we'd get to taste more dishes. Everything was delicious and our sever was great -- very attentive and knowledgable.
The only fly in the ointment was when I tried to flag someone down during our main course to get an extra plate to facilitate sharing. Several staff members walked past our table/were standing nearby and ignored us. By the time our waiter returned, the moment was passed. I mentioned the issue to him and he was very receptive to the feedback.
He informed a manager, who came by our table during dessert. He was also receptive and told us that he would be using our experience as an example of needed improvement with the staff. He also gave us a small bottle of the house limoncello (delicious and dangerous -- went really well with our dessert) to make up for the lapse in service. My friend said she was considering not returning until the manager came by to speak with us. Would definitely go back.
The only thing to be careful on if you are going during restaurant week. If you order the risotto during restaurant week, it comes our to more than if you ordered off the regular menu. When I brought this to the waiter's attention - his response was "then don't order the risotto"
This was my first time dining at RPM Italian but it definitely won't be my last! I went with a couple friends for Restaurant Week, but it ended up just being a good excuse to get there, because we didn't end up ordering from the fixed price restaurant week menu.
Oh the Wine...
We all started with a sparkling brut rose - Brut Rosé, Buonamico, "Particolare", Vino Spumante, NV ($16/glass or $64/bottle). I am not big into roses unless they are dry and sparkling. This one was perfect. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for it elsewhere and would highly recommend it!
To pair with dinner, we all ordered different red varietals. I got the Pinot Noir, George, "Hansen", Russian River Valley, 2014 ($25/glass). It was one of the more expensive on the by the glass list, but it was my favorite of the three.
Eats - Since there were three of us, we just decided to share dishes so we could all try them all! and I would highly recommend everything.
Brussels Sprouts salad - this salad is just really good!! Well flavored, not soggy but well dressed.
Prosciutto Totelloni - Rosemary, Parmesan Brodo. They accidentally brought this out for us and rather than sending it back, they let us keep it on the house and we didn't object. These were firm Totellonis filled with flavorful prosciutto in a creamy sauce. I was not one bit upset that we got to keep these.
Short Rib Bolognese - Hand-Cut Pappardelle, Rosemary. Okay, I LOVE short ribs so this was a easy selection. This fresh pappardelle pasta was a mixed in with yummy tomato based sauce with just the right amount of tender short rib meet. I'd have a hard time picking favorites as I loved everything but I think this was my favorite dish of them all!
Chicken Parmesan with Fontina - I'm generally a fan of chicken parm, but this took it to another level with the crispy breading. Crispy but didn't feel too heavy and fried. YUM.
Can't wait to get back here!
The decor is lovely, very elegant and chic. Love the overhead lighting with the Edison light bulbs. We were seated at a booth, which turned out to be a very good thing based on what we ordered (we needed the room). Our server, Wilson, was very professional and personable. I have to say that he as well as the other gentlemen and ladies looked very sharp in their white jackets. Even the bus boys looked great in all black and have to give a shout out to them as they were just as professional and nice as the wait staff. I am guessing the overall staffing is a well oiled and run machine as they all had ear pieces in place for communication.
Rosemary Focaccia with Lardo: kudos to the chef on the bold choice of using lard (you heard me right) instead of butter. The 600-Day Prosciutto was so tender it almost melted in my mouth, Great pairing with the bread. It came with three lovely red peppers stuffed with provolone cheese. Slightly spicy in olive oil and a very nice pairing with the meat. The charred Pepperoni Pizza had a nice crust.
The Prime Beef Meatballs were soft and delicious, with lots of red sauce for dipping the bread into it. I could see getting those as a side to a pasta dish that doesn't come with meatballs. Veal Parmesan was nice and crispy on the outside, but oh so tender on the inside. It came with a side of spaghetti Dr. M's Spaghetti and Meatball came with one meatball, but it was the size of a cat's head, no lie. Just a big delicious meatball in the middle of great pasta.
Fourth course consisted of made to order Pistachio gelato with wild strawberries and Bomboloni (Italian Brioche Donuts covered in sugar and served with Nutella). The gelato was very good, but I gave that to Dr. M so I could focus on the donuts. Not sure why this are called donuts as they reminded me of the Beignets from Nawleans. They were fluffy pillows of sugary dough goodness and went very well with the coffee (excellent by the way).
Everytime we come to Chicago we find our way to RPM Italian. At no point does this restaurant let you down. Crazy great crowd (never seen a restaurant so busy)! Service is incredible and even so when you understand how busy they are. Food always is very good. Thank you!
This was my second time at RPM. The atmosphere was very trendy and hip. The tables are tight right next to each other - making it difficult to move about without running into people on the way to the restrooms. The food was not much for the price. Unfortunately there was not more than 1-2 bottles of wine for under $50/bottle, which is not ideal. I felt my mixed cocktail was subpar. The food was displayed nicely, but not a good value.
Came to RPM Italian with my family for both a Anniversary/Birthday meal.
The staff were courteous and had us seated on time.
We ordered a foccaccia, brussel sprout salad, and fritto misto as our apps.
Although pricey, they were quite good and met expectations.
We also got a king crab pasta, the branzino, and berkshire pork for mains.
The pasta was a little salty and too rich.
The branzino was a little on the greasy side.
The pork was well cooked but the beans and kale were a little on the salty side.
We received complimentary prosecco and gelato for the special occasions and also ordered the
Hazlenut dessert which was good.
The check in process was a bit slow. Had reservations at 9pm didn’t get seated until 9:30. I checked in at 8:45. I waited almost an hour to get sitted. The waiter seemed unsure as to what he was doing and what they offered in the menu. Thankfully, I have been there before and I was able to figured it out. The food is outstanding, the ambience is amazing and great desserts. You must try the cheese cake and the gelato.
The food was good, don’t get me wrong. But would I say it’s the best Italian I’ve ever had? No. Would I eat there again? Yes probably. I do have to say, the meatball appetizer was noteworthy.
They were running about 30+ minutes behind on reservations. That is always frustrating. Also, our waiter was awful. Truly, just neglectful. The bus boys were more attentive than our waiter.
Overall we had a good experience here. We had a reservation but still had to wait 15 minutes for a table. The service was a little slow. One of the managers saw we had our drink menus open for awhile and stopped to take our order since our server had not had a chance. The food was very good, only issue was the portions were a little smaller than I was hoping for.
This was my first time at RPM Italian and unfortunately the evening started rocky. Even though we had made a reservation for four guests we had to wait 45 minutes for our table on a Wednesday night. The hostess was not welcoming which was disappointing since she was the first person we talked to once we walked through the door. Overall, the food was amazing but the service and friendliness was lacking. I’ve been to RPM Steak with my husband and we had a better experience. Might think twice before coming back to RPM Italian.
Fabulous dinner! If you want a quiet table ask for the front section to the far left. Mushroom Pittzaette and artichokes to start! Guilana’s salad and the Kale and Spinach. Lobster pasta, Roasted Brussels Sprouts and Super Tuscan Red wine we’re all standouts! Bomboli with Nutella for dessert with gelato and chocolates cake all Devine! Fabulous Service!!
I ordered medium well steak and it was overcooked and blackly burned. I waited for my table for almost 25 min, even though I booked a table in advance, however the table was good.
Also, customers, beware of valet parking, they damaged my car and unfortunately I noticed that only when I came home lately. I called to the restaurant first thing in the morning and they told me that its not their responsibility and that I should call to valet parking owner who obviously sounded more like he interested in dodging damage claim than taking responsibility for their unprofessional employees who concealed the damage they caused. At this moment Im stuck with 400$ repair cost in addition to 200$ what I paid in the restaurant and 15$ plus tips for valet service. Horrible overall experience.
I went for Restaurant Week but did not find the menu appealing. We ordered from the regular menu and did not find the prices out of line. The atmosphere was outstanding! The Steak House was also very impressive. I did not find many options on the menu to be to my liking. I'm not a big pasta eater. However, the Italian salad was lick the bowl good and my short ribs was not only delicious but it was an ample portion. The broiled brussel sprouts are as good as the ones that I had at the RPM Streak House. Due to the lack of choices for me, I will return to the Steak House first.
