We miss the happy hour menu. And, the menu you currently have is very limited.
Roy’s always delivers and this trip was no different. Kudos!
When we visit the big island, Roy’s is the place we go for special occasions or just because. They never fail us in everything they do. Excellent food and service. If you go to Roy’s, expect to pay for the service and excellent food. So if you’re cheap, don’t go to Roy’s, just saying.
Not what I remember. Food was mediocre at best. Had the butter fish which was not flaky - seemed previously frozen not fresh. Poke nachos was not the traditional poke - had lots of Mayo. Everything seemed over sauced and too sweet. Restaurant had no ambiance at all - very stark - and not because of the 6ft COVID spacing. Just no real decor. On the positive side - the service was exceptional and attentive. Just so disappointed in the food.
It was excellent food, which is most important. Given the difficulty with the pandemic and supply that a restaurant needs we had a nice meal. Would like to come back in the future when the place could really shine
We have been to Roy’s for many occasions. We still like it, but it is not fabulous like it used to be. Yes, the food is still good—some of it is still great—but it is a bit tired. The mixed grill with the ono substituted was Awesome. The pineapple upside down cake was sad.
The interior needs to be updated and we hope it survives this pandemic.
The wait staff was wonderful and we will still return because Roy’s has been wonderful for our family and hope for the best.
Amazing food and service for the money.
The food was tasty and presented well. A little pricey but comparable to many other restaurants in Hawaii. The waitress that waited on us was terrible! No enthusiasm or enjoyment about waiting on us. Her service was extremely inattentive and slow! I’m sure not all of the waiters/waitresses were as unenthusiastic as our waitress so I would recommend to a friend if they don’t have the waitress that waited on us.
We love coming to Roy’s and we’re so glad they were open. We had a reservation but unfortunately we were seated by bar with a view of a wall. Our waitress was very pleasant and had several tables to take care of so service was slow with no fault on her part. The food was delicious as always and will definitely be back when we come in May 2022. The soufflé was excellent and really miss the brûlée. Hope at some point you bring that back.
My husband and I came here during our honeymoon. The food was absolutely amazing! The service was fantastic! I definitely recommend the rangoon appetizer and misoyaki butterfish entree!
Great food and the restaurant accommodates my husbands seafood allergy on his dish to relive the shrimp. Interesting cocktails and many fish selections
Roy's has no interior color except white which makes it look like a fast food diner. The food was ok and a let down compared to other Roy's where we've eaten. Over all, a less than impressive experience for a brand we have come to expect outstanding good and service.
This was not what I expected. Way overpriced for what you get. I had a cocktail and it was good. We got the ribs and the wild boar rangoon appetizers. The ribs were very fatty, but the flavor was decent. I wasn’t a fan of the rangoon. My husband and I both ordered steak. Mine was undercooked. Also the menu said the steaks were $51 each but we got charged $122 for both. We asked the waiter and apparently the price on the steak was supposed to be $61 each. Instead of honoring the price of the menu we looked at they only took $10 off. I will never go back here. $200 could have been happily spent elsewhere.
We are on vacation and I’m sorry to say it was not a great experience. Our server was nice but we got there early and were seated. It took about an hour to get our food and the interesting part was that there were several empty tables. It didn’t seem busy. The appetizer tasted like a frozen product and the mahi didn’t taste fresh at all.
Maybe the server was embarrassed about our wait time but asked us fairly soon after we received our meal if we were going to want desert.
On vacation in Hawaii and we were seated at a four top table (2 in our party) kind of in the middle of the room facing the bar with the baseball game on.
We have been to the Big Island multiple times and have never visited Roys.
Unfortunately it’s not a place we would return.
My wife and I enjoyed our anniversary dinner at Roy’s. We liked the seasoned edamame appetizer before our meal. Both of our dinners were excellent and I especially loved the blackened Ahi. The cost of our meal was reasonable, especially when considering other high-end restaurants in the surrounding area.
Ambiance was very good. The steaks were a bit tough but the flavoring was excellent. Service was a bit slow.
Service was outstanding and the food was even better. Fish was fantastic and the Brussel sprout app was out of this world! Will come back for sure!
This place is a dump. Go elsewhere!
I have been to the Roy's in Plano, TX and I guess I expected this one to be even better, but it wasn't. It was the overall appearance of the restaurant that was my main issue. It looked like it was a pop-up restaurant. It had ZERO decor at all, the Playlist was like 90's music instead of some relaxing hawaiian music. American Dad was on the television in the bar. It just did not have the same taste level as other locations. The food was still Roy's quality though my husband's meal could have benefited from a pinch of salt. Our server took a while to warm up to us but he was great.
Nicole is an awesome ambassador for Roy's. She was very helpful with our food selection and very pleasant to speak with. She made our evening very special.
Not the Roy's experience we are used to...
Very disappointing. The restaurant was freezing cold, the chairs were falling apart and they had no coffee or tea because they said their machine was broken.
The mahi and the butter fish were good as were the poke nachos but for a $150 dinner you would hope the dining experience would be better than a Dennys. (No disrespect to Dennys)
To sum it up, our meals was good but the place obviously needs a manager who cares. Adjust the thermostat, start replacing chairs and drive to Walmart and buy a few coffee makers.
Small paper menus were lackluster. Chairs were highly worn. Service was great as was the food. Whole experience was not up to the usual Roy’s standards
You cannot go wrong with Roy's. The menu has been pretty much the same for years. Perhaps it's time for a refresh of the venues as well as the menus? A new decore and fresher farm to table concept would be my choice for more contemporary dining.
Food was excellent from appetizers to entrees to desert.
Great blackened ahi. Started with the crispy bacon caesar brussel sprouts which were delicious. Highly recommend them. Topped off with chocolate souffle.
This maître d’ try to help the server and gave us drinks. It took a long time for us to be able to place an order. When we ordered the server got the order mixed up and brought us food different from what we ordered.
The restaurant needs to be updated.
The food was excellent as usual. The poke nachos, butterfish, and ono were spot on! However the service was lacking and disappointing for a higher end restaurant. We were greeted warmly and shown to a table in a back corner. We had to ask for a wine list even though the front lobby displays their wines and it is a great source of revenue for the restaurant. Our waiter took our order and then forgot about us. Others brought our meals and cleared the table as needed, but there was no checking on us (I needed a fork for my dinner) or even filling our water glasses, much less pouring our wine. He had many tables yet found time to ask the table in front of us 6-7 times how their meals were and was there anything else that he could do for them. We had wanted the famous chocolate dessert, but that order needs to be put in early. We didn't want to wait an extra 30 minutes in such an environment. We are not usually very picky guests and are easy to please. This was a celebratory evening that was soured because of poor service.
Have had some good meals at Roy's but sadly NOT this one. The cripsy Brussel Spout appetizer was very good and we had high expectations until the entrees came. Macadamia crusted Mahi Mahi was dry, fishy and looked like a fishcake. It was shaped to fit on top of a half cooked potato and looked strange on the plate. The misoyaki butterfish with forbidden rice came out looking like a black lump on a white plate. The flavor was good but the presentation sorely lacking. The pineapple upside-down cake had a crushed pineapple bottom instead of a slice of pineapple as previously presented on past visits. Given the high quality of other high end restaurants in the Waikoloa area, this probably will be our last visit to this Roy's.
We give restaurants extra “room” these days as all seem to be short staffed. Our appetizers- on the menu for years- were not hot and looked tired. My wife’s seafood dinner was well undercooked and sent back which since mine was fine created the “awkward” eating situation. Not much ambience and no table cloths really made me feel the place has stepped backwards. A stable for us for many years, we’re not certain about another visit.
Most places we go, there’s a dish that stands out. Roy’s is the exception to this rule because EVERY dish was a standout. Amazing food and experience. Thank you Roy’s!
Food is pretty good. Wait for food after ordering was over an hour. Definitely feels like a chain restaurant. Much better options.
Made a birthday reservation in advance and got stuck in the bar at a 2 top when there were lots of open tables. However, our service and meal were fabulous. The ono was excellent, in dynamite sauce, great flavors. The opakapaka steamed in pesto was excellent. Our server was attentive and not overbearing, such great fish and preparation, made another reservation to go back between leave.
The food was ordinary, ambience is so so.
Excellent food and service.
Roy’s use to be our favorite restaurant on the island. Sad to see it go down hill…poor service and food quality is unacceptable for the price.
The ambiance was that of a cafeteria. Very dated. Upholstery was shredded on the chairs. I ordered a “Mixed Grill” which contained pot roast, scalloped potatoes and sautéed shrimp… nothing grilled
Food and service were outstanding
Roy’s never disappoints for food! Our server was very attentive and excellent however we did feel like he was rushing us through dinner. Only reason I knocked off a star. Overall all staff were attentive, courteous and relatable. Not sure what the rush was as we had reservations. Despite that we will be back next time on the island!
