Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar - WAIKOLOA, Hawaii
Have been to Roy’s many times when visiting the Big Island. The food was not up to normal standards...overcooked and dry fish...other meals swimming in grease. The surprise of the night came when asked if we wanted dessert and we said no...the bill came along with a little tart ..a small scoop of vanilla ice cream and 2 spoons. How nice....until I saw they added $ 46.00 to the bill for this dessert we didn’t ask for ! Beware of this establishment. It was never like this before ...must be new management. We will never go again.
Nowhere as good as it use to be. Waited forever for a preordered dessert. Waited forever to order. Sad we use to love this restaurant and have been going to this restaurant every year when we travel to the islands. Not going back.
Top notch place. Service is excellent which equals the wonderful food. Go there, you will not be disappointed!
Great Location, nice ambiance; easy on the eye with tranquil views, great salmon!!!!!
chocolate lave cake to rival Kilauea!!!
Great service and best food in Waikoloa.
Great place whether sitting at the bar or at a table, as this experience. We had 4 in our party, and our guests were on their 1st trip to the Big Island, thus their 1st trip to Roy’s.
Brussels sprouts appetizer was awesome!
Two in our party ordered the price fix dinner w/wine paring. Great food & wine. Two of us ordered different entrees, all perfectly prepared.
Roy’s is always a winner. Highly recommend to Big Island visitors!
Service wasn’t great. Server was kinda snappy and not attentive. Food was not spectacular.
Been to this Roy’s several times in past. We felt prices have increased significantly So value no longer there.
Every Roy’s I have been to has been a great experience! Tonight’s experience was no different. The only thing I was upset about was the fact that I didn’t order the “Tiger Shrimp Linguine” that my husband ordered and he wouldn’t share! It’s new on the menu and is PHENOMENAL!
All staff was amazing. Food excellent. Our waiter was wonderful, along with all the servers. Attention to detail on customer experience was top notch.
Consistently high quality dining.
Great restaurant and food!
Roy’s used to be a very good and dependable place. It feels like they raised the prices sky high and drastically lowered the quality of the food. Ribs were drenched in Sauce. Fish was dry. Service was disorganized. Not coming back. I don’t mind high prices at all but the food and service have to match up. They are living on their reputation.
Roy's is always very good! I had the Prix Fix Meatloaf. The appetizer was outstanding! The main course was good and more than I could eat. We had Roy's Pinot Noir, which was very good. We had Roy's chocolate souffle with Dashe Old Zinfandel for dessert. If you love wine, you need to try Dashe's Old Zinfandel! The souffle was wonderful, as usual!
Roy’s never disappoints!
Nice but busy restaurant on Big Island. Good food & seafood dishes. Rather expensive but enjoyable. Conveniently close to major resorts in the Kings Shops Plaza. Good biut not outstanding.
The prices on the website were considerably less than the restaurant menu stated. It was too late to get up and leave once seated but everything was super over priced. There is better value elsewhere
One of our favorite places. The food is always great. Wine being half price on Wind Down Wednesday’s was a an unexpected treat.
Our server Learch; was incredible and his supporting cast was impressive as well! Having been to many of the Roy’s Restaurants on the mainland & in Oahu- we were looking forward another terrific evening with great culinary options.
We have to say that this location feels and tastes “bland” compared to the others. The menu is limited and after sampling the Canoe appetizer dish we left disappointed.
The wine list was good and our cocktails were delicious but there is so much more we expected visiting Roy’s!
The staff was attentive and professional in every way, however they need management to provide the back up with excellent food and an ambiance that will make customers stick around and furthermore want to come back again and again.
I think foods are good quality. staff are friendly and kind.
One of the servers had a long and very noisy conversation with two customers nearby us. It was purely social, but at such a high volume level, that it spoilt our experience. We are loyal Roy’s customers, but felt that management should have taken some action. Arnie was off or I would have asked him to intervene.
Fabulous place! Love the food, wines and servers
I ordered the special. The Tuna was good, but it came on about 2cups of the sweet potatoes. Overwhelmed the fish. The birthday dessert was a nice touch. Very good service. The busboy was stellar!!!
Everything was great as far as service and food. I just wish the ambience was nicer.
We've eaten at Roy's many times - every time we are on the Big Island. It is an outstanding restaurant. We highly recommend it.
We go to Roy's almost every year we visit the Hawaiian islands for the past 20+ years. It used to be our favorite but feel it has gone down in quality and value. The menu hasn't been changed for years, which tells me they are not innovating and creating new dishes. The fish (Opah and Mongchong) were both over-cooked. What a shame! Even their chocolate souffle cake didn't ooze like they used to. Same old, same old, is definitely getting old. The level of food served just doesn't match the price we are paying. Sadly, the whole family decided we are done with Roy's for now.
Roy’s has good food, however no ambience. We were seated near the kitchen although the restaurant wasn’t crowded. It was noisy and had an overwhelming odor of old oil for cooking and a very fishy smell. Our waitress forgot everything we asked for, however the bus person was very nice and helpful. For a $200 plus meal, it wasn’t relaxing or pleasurable.
Food was average. I had meatloaf my husband had the fresh fish. Both were just ok. Service was good. At least waitress suggested I could get a half order instead of a full.
Good wine list. Place was very noisy. Waterfront nice but behind closed windows.
We used to enjoy dining here, but I think it’s gone downhill.
Anniversary dinner. My Ahi came cold and there was a super hot pepper sauce on the greens on top of the fish that I ate on first bite and muted my taste buds for the next 20 minutes
Table was below a dripping air conditioning vent! Dripping water onto our table. Not once did they suggest to reseat us. Then there was the screaming baby next to us. Let just say they will not get my patronage again.
Outstanding and helpful service
And great service and the food was excellent
They made us feel special on our 35th Anniversary. Our table looked out at the lake.
The wait staff were more interested in large tourist tables and not professional. Its no longer a fine dining restaurant in my opinion, but the prices are fine dining. Noise level says, " we don't want you lingering in a romantic atmosphere. We want you to eat and leave ". It used to be a great place with professional staff, sommelier with nice atmosphere.
I found the food not up to Roy's expectation except for the appetizer which was good. The service was terrible we waited over 35 minutes for our dessert. Others were getting their desserts that came way after us.
I had heard great things about Roy's from friends so I was looking forward to my meal. I got the prix fixe menu, starting with appetizers of a spicy tuna roll, bbq ribs, and a chicken spring roll. I then moved on to macadamia crusted swordfish. The dessert was a chocolate soufflé's, which was described as a melting hot soufflé's. The appetizers and main dinner were all just OK. Nothing great at all. The soufflé's was a big disappointment, because it wasn't really a soufflé's. More like a warm chocolate cake. The bright spot was my waiter, who helped me choose a great bottle of New Zealand wine with my meal. I was left with a slightly nauseas feeling after the meal, and I will not be back.
Always excellent, never any complaints
OMG! the Roy's We know and love. Loved it on Kauai 20+ years ago, then Roy changed to a "plantation " menu there😥
But Big Island fortunately is the Hawaii star of seafood! Every bite was outstanding. Perfect wine pairings and great service. I'd drive 2 hours to eat those scallops. Kid friendly yet sophisticated, and beautiful waterfront. Whenever again on Big Island we WILL eat here.
