Outstanding food and an overall great experience.
It’s a very nice dinning place. We sat on the opened area with the view of the beach. Very relaxed. The food was delicious and the environment is very peaceful.
Food is always good as well as cocktails and wine selection. However, I am disappointed in the noise level for the environment. Too loud for the ambiance setting.
Delicious! Always top-notch food and service. The chicken breast special was creamy and just so beautifully flavorful. The sashimi and sushi menu was extensive and my daughter loved it. The menu at the Waikiki Roy’s is much fuller and nicer than some Roy’s. We’re going again in two days.
Always a great meal & excellent service!
Roy's has always been a favorite of ours, so I'm sorry to say that I was very disappointed by this visit. There were some real "misses" on the menu: hamachi crudo was slathered in Japanese mayo, which was way too sweet, the rice that accompanied my wife's entree was overcooked and dry (a cardinal sin in an Asian-inspired restaurant), and the cake part of the pineapple upside down cake was dry and not particularly good. In contrast, the blackened ahi was good as it always has been.
More significant than the misses with the food was the VERY rushed service. They pushed us to order quickly and brought the food way too quickly. We were in and out in 75 minutes -- too short for a relatively expensive, fine dining experience. This didn't just happen to us. We saw the same at all of the tables around us.
This time, the food was good, but not amazing. Our waiter was overly scripted and not genuine. Floor manager was very loud. Whenever she approached a table the volume in the room instantly rose as folks shouted to be heard over her. Likely won't go back for a third visit.
We had a good time at Roy’s. The food was pretty tasty at Roy’s and the service was outstanding. The wine pairing with the tasting menu was pretty poor though. The signature fish dishes were all delicious ( I had the trio of fish but substituted the salmon with the ahi tuna), esp the butterfish dish was exquisite. Although the beef rib dish my boyfriend had was average and pretty dry. The spicy tuna sushi roll I had to start was average, the rice was too sticky. Given I had read reviews about the sushi being outstanding I was disappointed with the sushi but delighted with my mains. The service we got was incredible, our waiter spent a long time explaining the menu and kept checking on us throughout the email. He even gave us tips on which parts of the island to visit the next day. The hostess was also super friendly and accommodating, I asked to change our table as I didn’t want to sit inside and the hostess immediately looked for another table for us. Overall our experience was 4 out of 5 stars, with 5 being the service and 4 with the food, 3 being that wine. It’s slightly pricey compared to London but that’s just what you have to pay in Hawaii!
Food was delicious. Server gave good recommendations, and was very nice. Good location. Nice fish art on the walls. My only complaint is that it is noisy. Difficult to hear the server and each other
We had dinner here and it was the best meal we ate in Hawaii.
The service is beautiful and the chocolate molten cake is the best one I’ve ever had. You need to order this 30 mins before as they make it fresh. If I’d have known how delicious it was I wouldn’t have opted to share!!!
Definitely add this to your list to eat when in Hawaii!!
The food does not live up to the restaurant’s reputation
My parents visited this Roy's years ago when they visited together on vacation. They took my sister and I to the location in Anaheim, CA a few months after their visit here because they insisted the food was incredible. After eating there, they said the food was good, but this location was still their favorite. My boyfriend and I decided to eat dinner here on our recent trip and it was an amazing experience altogether. The blackened Ahi was just as I'd remembered it, with a mouth-watering wasabi/mustard sauce, and cooked to perfection. The hot plate we ordered for a starter was delicious as well. Will definitely return on our next visit back here!!!
Excellent service. Good food but some portions were rather small for the price. Still, worth putting on your dinner list.
Food and service was impeccable. Staff are attentive, warm and professional. Food portions are huge, everything was fresh and flavorful. Can’t wait to come back again!
We loved the food and the service was great! Highly recommend this restaurant to family and friends!
Had the Dragon Roll, Crab Cakes to start followed by Miso Butterfish. Finished with the Chocolate Souffle and Pineapple Upside Down Cake. Everything was beautifully presented and tasted delicious!
We had a lovely Saturday night dinner during our weekend in Honolulu. Good food, reasonable prices and great ambiance. Highly recommended!
Restaurant Week. Ordered the 3 course meal restaurant week special. Food presentation was good. Trio poke appetizer and main course was okay, when it comes to taste. Portion was very small; looks like 3oz meat. I'm a petite person and this meal was not enough. Expected an overall excellent experience from Roys but I was more disappointed...my experience dining in at BLT during veterans day- 50% 3 course meal with wine pairing was wayyyyy better --can't compare it with.
Excellent white fish in a fantastic lobster sauce. Server was energetic and friendly. Helped pick a wine.
The check in woman was rude when we arrived a bit early. She said “it is t 7:30 so you can go over there and wait”
We had already told her we were early and so that was not necessary and she could have said it in a different way.
The restaurant was a big boxy room with no atmosphere. Very loud and we sat next to a door to an outside patio that people walked in and out of with chairs and tables. There was a giant notice in the menu about gift cards not being accepted and the menu had loose pages that fell out. Waiter was nice and helpful and service was good. My appetizer of Mongolian Beef taco were horrible. Cold taco shells with so little meat and stuffing it. The shell seemed to take over the entire bit. My salad was ok not great I was excited to get the butter lettuce and stuffed croutons but they were cold and only three of them. My husband had Spring rolls that he enjoyed and a Opakapaka which he enjoyed.
Both wine selections were not very good. I will not be back to Roy’s. Just a big box restaurant now not like years ago when it was special.
The food was fantastic and our waitress was great. The help staff was also great making sure drinks were always full. Highly recommend.
Amazing service from the second we stepped into restaurant. Attentive and friendly server. Food was spectacular. Will return
We are coming over every year when we are on the island and the food is always outstanding
We have been coming to Roys since he first opened up his Hawaii Kai restaurant. We absolutely love it!
Our server was outstanding! Courteous. Attentive and extremely personable.
Mac and cheese entree with lobster and prawns was delicious, however the lobster and prawns were overcooked, quite dry and tough for my taste. That was bit of a disappointment..
Service is nice and overall good experience. Ive tried others dishes and all are relatively great.
As always, the food was delicious although the side portions were very small for the price. Also, wish we had realized the two different prices when ordering or that the server had asked our preference. I guess the default is the larger, more expensive main portion.
Otherwise, we loved the edamame served when seated and the spring roll appetizer was very tasty. Would eat here again without hesitation.
Great spot on Waikiki. Best macadamia nut crusted mahi mahi ever and the soufflé was impeccable.
Great experience, great food, great service....every time!
The food was excellent, really nice. But the service was not. Since this restaurant has a higher price than the average, the service should be as excellent as the food. We let the waiter know, so hopefully he will smile and make other guests feel welcome next time.
Everything was great! Loved having the vegan options!
My family and I come here every time we visit Honolulu. Our experience has always been wonderful. The waiters are friendly and the food is fantastic!!
The food was excellent. The waitstaff was very friendly, but often absent.
Tremendous food and service!!! Roy’s was a great choice for my wife and I to celebrate our anniversary!
Fabulous dining experience. A little pricey but worth it for a special occasion.
Always one of the best dining experiences. Our server and support team were phenomenal! Our dad turned 70th and he was rather grumpy along with our 2 young kids, but our service team was supportive, professional, and super friendly. We are grateful for the details they put into celebrating our 70th and 40th birthday celebrations. The food was absolutely delicious. We definitely love this place. They have been truly consistent for the past 10 years that we’ve visited this restaurant.
The only flaw is their hostess team. Greeting was terrible and we received no help from them in trying to get our stroller up their stairs to this establishment. They also gave my dad the wrong time for our dinner reservation and seemed completely unorganized in what they were doing.
