Roy's Tampa Ratings and Reviews
Though the food was very good as was the service, we were using a Groupon to try out the restaurant. As soon as you identify you are a Groupon customer the multi-page menu is taken away and a single-page one is presented which has a VERY limited selection. It is a prix fixe menu as advertised but the the portions are smaller and there are less selections than those on both of their other prix fixe menus but the Groupon offer indicated a higher amount than if we had purchased either of those. We were to be charged and extra $40 which if the bill had totaled less than promised, we would've been happy to pay the difference. The manager at the time did come and make an adjustment but it is certainly not how all the other Groupon's have worked where we are free to choose our food up to the amount for which we were promised. It is a pretty reataurant with good food but quite noisy soncevthevkitchen and the bar are open into the dining area.
It was our first time here and service was very disappointing. Maybe it was because we were out on the porch and they kept forgetting about us? While the food was excellent, we waited way too long before courses which dragged the dinner out to almost two hours. Had we not ordered the Chef’s Tasting 3 course meal we would not have waited the more than 30 minutes for dessert. Quite honestly PF Chang’s has better service and it isn’t as expensive.
Food is always very good but it took forever for our appetizers and entrées to come to our table. Our waiter had only been on the job for two days so he did not know a lot about the menu unfortunately. I also think he gave me caffeinated coffee when I ask for decaf because I couldn't sleep for the whole night but overall I enjoyed the meal.
The menu concept of Hawaiian/Asian fusion is excellent and cannot be compared to that of any other restaurant brand in the area. The service and ambiance are always above par as the staff carefully and conscientiously attends to each table. Always a pleasurable experience.
Took the grandchildren for a pre-straz event. I had a Groupon for four people so four of us ate from that menu and the three kids ordered from the kids' menus. We ordered additional items and lots of drinks. Bill was a little high but reasonable for what we got. So much great service--made all of us enjoy the experience. We were rushing so had to take our dessert to go. Roy's is just a wonderful place to go in Tampa. You just won't get better food or service.
We went their for Thanksgiving. Was surprised that they had an abbreviated menu. Was not mentioned when the reservation was made OR when they called to confirm. Although the menu was a fixed price three courses it was broken out on the bill. If we would of known that they were billed separately, not stated by our waiter, we would of ordered differently. The food however, was excellent. Would recommend, since we have been there multiple times
We went to Roy's Tampa for Thanksgiving. Our reservation was for 3 people at 4:30. One adult and two children. We ordered from the special menu and the kids menu. The entire 3 course meal took about 2 hours. It was a bit slow, but pleasant. We were in the side dining room with other families. Our table was a bit slanted and not flat and the walls and framed art were not very clean. The main dining room is much nicer. Last Thanksgiving, we went to Roy's Orlando. It was not as busy, only a few other tables and we were in the main dining room.
Went to dinner with a party of six. Three of our party ordered the shellfish sampler and felt it was not a good value for the price. I had the trio and it was very good. I believe there should be more seafood selections. There was only one special offered and no one tried it. The lobster bisque was a highlight.
Overall good but not memorable.
Came for our Anniversary dinner - Arrived and the hostess did not mention the special occasion nor was the special placard at our table recognizing the day (though notated on Reservation and the place was 1/2 empty) We asked the hostess for black napkins as we both had on dark pants - she said we only have white - we then asked the Bus-boy for dark napkins and he immediately brought us black ones to the table - I saw on the menu there was a “Seasonal Poke” so inquired with the waiter what was in it - He proceeded to tell me what Poke is - I said I knew that but wondered what was specific about the “Seasonal” - he didn’t know and said it was the standard offering - When our meal arrived we were swarmed with 6-10 gnats/ fruit flies - which was kind of disgusting (as we were inside seating at booth by windows) - I asked the waiter for soy sauce to accompany our rice - never got it - Requested it from the Bus-Boy and he brought it right away
— Overall not a great evening - food was good but service left a lot to be desired - except for our Bus-Boy/Assistant who should earn 5 Stars
We had a terrible experience. Fruit flies were buzzing our table throughout our meal. We mentioned it to the manager only to be told they were working on it. Nothing was offered for our troubles- very disappointing. We will not be back
It was my bff 53rd bday. We had purchased the Groupon for 4 ppl on the 3 course prix fixe menu then 2 of us ordered off regular menu and wines etc. they never blinked an eye that we had purchased Groupon and were slightly complicated with the billing.
There wine list is extensive and beautiful. Food was fantastic. Michael was our waiter and he was lovely and educated on his menu.
This was our first visit to the restaurant and we were keen to experience a unique approach to fine dining. A couple of issues affected the evening:
Hot starters arrived at the same time as the cold amuse bouche, presenting the dilemma as to whether to eat our meal in the order presented on the menu or not.
The delicate taste of the lobster was overpowered by chillies
The main course was a white fish that arrived almost uncooked. We sent the dish back, were told that the steam oven had unintentionally been turned off, and on receipt of the repeat dish, found it too to be undercooked. I think everyone was surprised.
The staff were apologetic, and did their best to work around the problem and were clear that this was a one off, unfortunate incident.
The atmosphere was good, staff friendly but not so certain they understood the menu that well.
The restaurant has lots of potential so we'll be back in a couple of weeks to try it again.
Food was delicious as usual. Our party had a variety of dishes from the Ahi tuna cold plate, the Classic Sampler, to the short ribs, various vegetarian sushi rolls and the mac and cheese and finally the pineapple upside down cake and the souffle. EVERY single dish was prepared perfectly, all food came out timely and the flavors were delicious. The only ding was the server was nice but was a bit slow to get back to our table for the transitions such as checking on us after our main course came out and then taking coffee orders with our desert order. But a nice evening overall.
The food was excellent and the service was top-notch. The menu is a bit expensive, but every dish that we had was very well done. Would be a great place for date night or any special occasion. There is no dress code strictly speaking, but it is not a casual place, but also not a stuffy black tie venue either. Would definitely eat here again.
