Roy's Tampa Ratings and Reviews
It was my bff 53rd bday. We had purchased the Groupon for 4 ppl on the 3 course prix fixe menu then 2 of us ordered off regular menu and wines etc. they never blinked an eye that we had purchased Groupon and were slightly complicated with the billing.
There wine list is extensive and beautiful. Food was fantastic. Michael was our waiter and he was lovely and educated on his menu.
This was our first visit to the restaurant and we were keen to experience a unique approach to fine dining. A couple of issues affected the evening:
Hot starters arrived at the same time as the cold amuse bouche, presenting the dilemma as to whether to eat our meal in the order presented on the menu or not.
The delicate taste of the lobster was overpowered by chillies
The main course was a white fish that arrived almost uncooked. We sent the dish back, were told that the steam oven had unintentionally been turned off, and on receipt of the repeat dish, found it too to be undercooked. I think everyone was surprised.
The staff were apologetic, and did their best to work around the problem and were clear that this was a one off, unfortunate incident.
The atmosphere was good, staff friendly but not so certain they understood the menu that well.
The restaurant has lots of potential so we'll be back in a couple of weeks to try it again.
Food was delicious as usual. Our party had a variety of dishes from the Ahi tuna cold plate, the Classic Sampler, to the short ribs, various vegetarian sushi rolls and the mac and cheese and finally the pineapple upside down cake and the souffle. EVERY single dish was prepared perfectly, all food came out timely and the flavors were delicious. The only ding was the server was nice but was a bit slow to get back to our table for the transitions such as checking on us after our main course came out and then taking coffee orders with our desert order. But a nice evening overall.
The food was excellent and the service was top-notch. The menu is a bit expensive, but every dish that we had was very well done. Would be a great place for date night or any special occasion. There is no dress code strictly speaking, but it is not a casual place, but also not a stuffy black tie venue either. Would definitely eat here again.
Frequent diner. Restaurant has leaky ceilings that drip on you when you walk in and flies that are all around you while trying to enjoy dinner and wine. They need to close for a weekend fix and repair or I am afraid it will cost them the entire business
Based on the high prices the food can be fresher. It appeared and tasted like mass produced. The sauces are great but the fish lacked flavor. The lobster potstickers should be taken off the menu if lobster cannot be identified. Great lobster bisque. Portions are very decent.
Wonderful server and manager. Food came out late, but the Brussel sprouts made up for it. They were so good!!! Cooked perfectly;) thank you to the chef who took this order! I love the Caymus wine here as well. This wine is hard to find.. most restaurants do not carry this.
Took my wife here for her birthday. The food and service was excellent. However, I was somewhat surprised, as the prices seemed to have gone up substantially since the few times we were here in the past. I could be wrong, but I don't recall seeing entrees in excess of $45 before. We had two drinks, shared salad and appetizer and entrees .. which approached $165 before gratuities. We were provided a molten-lava cake (did not request it), that I assumed was complimentary. Although, I didn't notice it on the bill, we were charged for it. Going forward, we will most likely only come here if there are special incentives. We love to dine out for special occasions, but we will scrutinizing value before returning here again.
We just dined at Roy's on Sunday. The food and service was excellent as usual. We had a wonderful sushi roll and a shrimp style salad for appetizers. For dinner my wife had the salmon and I had the roast chicken and shrimp combination. Both entrees were well prepared and very flavorful. For dessert we had the pineapple upside down cake which is made to order. This restaurant is pricey, but the service and food is very good. I recommend it for a very nice dinner.
Meh just not our thing. This is our 2nd time at a Roy's and we've confirmed its nothing special to us. We got the $59 deal on Travelzoo with one appetizer, two entrees and one dessert. We had chicken spring rolls which were pretty good, my husband had a burger with truffle fries which was just ok and fries had no truffle flavor, and I had the macadamia encrusted mahi which was the best part of the meal. Our dessert was a chocolate soufflé which was very good. We had one martini each which added $32 to our bill so with tip this "deal" ended up being expensive for the quality of food.
Saturday was our first time dining at Roys. The service is amazing. The appetizers were great. The main dishes were good. But in fairness, We are pescetarians so we couldn't really order some of roy's more famous dishes. The sushi was delish.
bring money. You will need it. And you will not mind spending it. cheers
