The fish sampler was amazing.
I took my daughter and her three boys for my 12 year old grandson's birthday on thursday night. I had told them that it was his birthday, and the waiter was so nice to him!! The food was amazing, as always, and even the youngest grandson (age 8) loved his "Kids meal" which was quite ample and delicious with an appetizer, main dish, and dessert. We ordered two adult desserts, and the waiter brought the birthday boy a dessert with a candle and "happy birthday" written on the plate. Everyone was delighted with their food and the service!
I took my boyfriend here for his birthday. The staff was great and did some things to make the occasion feel special. They have us this nice display on the table and a complimentary dessert in addition to the dessert we already ordered. We had a wonderful time. Definitely planning on going again.
We had a most pleasant evening, with great food, attentive service and a welcoming ambiance. The edamame was special. Our second visit in a week.
Great food and great service!
Like many reviews say, pretty MEDIOCRE overall, sweet older male server not aware of what FRESH FISH means, he had to go ask chef if the many fishes served were 100% fresh or previously frozen from catch to table. He still wasn’t sure after he spoke to the guy, he says the “fish is normally fresh, but we don’t get fresh fish delivered on Sundays. We are on Sunday.
Fish was kinda bland & a tad FISHY tasting, not good signs.
The only good to great & memorable part was the yummy dessert...yes, the 2 specialties...Hawaiian upside down pineapple wedding cake & chocolate lava cake with great cold vanilla bean adjacent.
$200. for 2 with no booze, a rip off !!!!
The place 95% empty by time left at 7:30pm. Yes, a Sunday night. Few naive tourist here I guess.
In SF x 25 years, my first visit as nearby at YBPA Theatre for ODC Dance show. Never again. I checked it off my to-do list.
The service was outstanding but the food was not impressive. The fish was dry, the deserts were average and the price wasn't justified...
Everything was excellent and our waiter was outstanding.
Great kids meal
Excellent location for a special dinner. The restaurant and service was excellent from the moment we walked in the door.
Food was not great!! And very expensive for the value and quality of the food!
Great food, fabulous service. The Express linch had a very good variety of choices and was very yummy.
Our waiter was rude and inattentive the side dishes were sub or but the steak and dessert was great
Orlando has been our server many times. He is attentive upbeat and efficient. Love being at his table. Mahi was good as usual. Moist meaty and a really hearty portion. Express lunch is perfect combo of salad soup protein and dessert at reasonable price. And delivered fast yet in a relaxed full service dining setting.
Roy's is THE place to go any time but especially when our family wants to celebrate special occasions. The best item on the menu is the misoyaki butterfish (it's the only thing my wife ever orders) but everything is flavorful and cooked to perfection. My last two times, I had the filet and lobster with the au gratin potatoes. The filet was a perfect medium rare and the thinly sliced, gruyere-flavored potatoes are the best I've ever had. Top the meal off with coffee and chocolate lava cake and chock it up as one of the best dining experiences ever.
Special mention for the children's menu: It's a great value and and the kids love it. My twin granddaughters recently celebrated their seventh birthday and when asked where they wanted to go for dinner, they, in unison, exclaimed, "Roy's". They both got a special candle-lighted desert with "Happy Birthday" scripted on the border of their plates in addition to their three course meal with popular choices for appetizers and entrees.
Bottom Line: Roy's is the place to go when we want an excellent meal with attentive service in a friendly ambiance. Mahalo and Aloha.
I think we saw our waiter twice, we sat for 20 minutes before someone brought water. Next waiter shows up, promptly asks for orders without seeing if anyone actually has questions. Sometime later food came, a check was dropped off and that was it. It wasn't even busy.
On top of that, the food was meh and price was expensive. Would not return.
Excellent appetizers and main course. Little disappointed in pineapple upside down desert. I have the original recipe and have had this desert many times in SF and Hawaii. It was not an upside down cake. It was chopped pineapple mixed with a pie crust. Was not very presentable. My money clip must have fallen out of my pocket during dinner and glad to have such honest people call me. they held it until I was able to get someone there to pick It up. Thanks!
Good food and nice daily set dinner deal.
My wife brought me here for my birthday. It was our first time visiting Roy’s. We had a 3 course meal. Appetizer, entrée and dessert. Everything was delicious and cooked to perfection.
I like the food and the price in Maui, HI branch better.
Great Asian fusion restaurant. Originated from Hawaii. Service is superb and nice ambiance. I highly recommend the short rib and butter fish. There's also a decadent chocolate lava cake big enough for two.
Fine dining casual atmosphere. Food is good not excellent. It’s very expensive but worth it for the most part. I would return and recommend it
Thanks for the nice dinner to celebrate our Anniversary. They were very welcoming with my kids.
Roy’s was excellent!! When arriving we were greeted by the Chef which was such a kind gesture. We were quickly seated and the ambience was so relaxing. It was my husbands birthday so there was a lovely birthday card and some flowers on the table, so sweet. I ordered a jalapeño margarita that was really good. For dinner I ordered the filet mignon and my husband had the grilled prawns. Both were very good, but my filet was amazing!! It was so perfectly seared and had so much flavor. I ate the entire thing! We then received a complimentary cheesecake for hubby’s bday, yum! Great experience, we can’t wait to go back.
We love going to Roys the staff is full of aloha and the food is exceptional !All together always a wonderful evening:)
Seafood Sampler was divine and upside down cake delicious.
You can’t go wrong ordering any of the fish or seafood! The pineapple upside down cake is to die for!!!
Limited options for vegetarians but the food otherwise was eloquent yet simple yet delicious and aesthetically pleasing at the same time. Great spot for a date night.
Anniversary dinner. Seated next to 2 sales guys who talked loud and constantly. Service seemed very slow, had to ask for edamame, which in the past had been offered immediately. Entree’s were so-so, desserts were wonderful as usual.
Have been to Roy’s Sf many times, this was our first bad experience. Hopefully the service will improve.
Big fan of Roy’s in general, however this Roy’s was probably the worst one we have been to - keep in mind it is still good (3,5 - 4 stars) but it is missing the last touch, to get to same level than all the other Roy’s we have been to.
Awesome place to take someone out on a date
We waited over 45 min for our appetizer and then our dinner order was finally taken. Restaurant was poorly understaffed. We will not return
Had reservation for our aniversary and was immediately greeted by a friendly host. Calamari was excellent and especially the butterfish !!! Loved the service and dessert afterwards !
We dine at Roy's once or twice per year. Each time, it seems there is a new chef. Last year, the manager had to personally oversee the cooking of a filet after the kitchen twice sent out a piece of meat that bore no resemblance to a filet - or any other cut of meat. This time, three of the four fish ordered were overcooked. The correctly cooked Butterfish was served with a salsa that did nothing to complement its flavor. Since Roy franchised the CA restaurants, the quality has gone steadily downhill. As the prices have increased, the value has decreased. Sadly, this will be our last time dining at the SF Roy's. Can't wait to taste the original Roy's when we are next in Hawaii.
The ebi’s sushi roll was amazing! We celebrated a birthday and they made us feel very special with a message on the dessert plate, a birthday card and a complimentary photo! The soufflé was delicious.
It took forever to get a waiter's attention and it wasn't that crowded. 2 of the 4 of us had our orders delivered without one of the main ingredients (avocado), but they didn't tell us they were out in advance. It was a disappointing experience in a restaurant that I've coveted in other locations.
The lunch special was a horrible value... Basically two bites of salmon, rice, a salad and a cookie for $29. Sooooo disappointed...
The noise level was way too loud.
Great food!!! The service was wonderful. The chef was accommodating and made something gluten free for the person i was with.
The Korean inspired Prix fixed menu was excellent!!!
