Fish was fresh and perfectly cooked. Skip appetizers -- fried things were slightly oily and shrimp was overdone. Ahi appetizer tasted good but is visually unimpressive. Molten Chocolate cake was delicious. Restaurant is pretty but extremely noisy. Drinks sound better than than taste - mango mojito was syrupy sweet. Overall, Roy's is expensive for what you get. there are better places to go in the city.
I enjoyed being brought back home with Roy's. This is definately a restaurant one has to return to because it has a full menu that can't be enjoyed in one visit. There were a lot of seafood options and options that my husband who is not a seafood eater, could enjoy. The service was friendly and elegant that came from a genuine place. Every course was awesome. The dressing on my salad was excellent. The KOBE meatloaf was amazing. My scallops with the purple rice and friend bananas was unique and wonderful. Dessert was a perfect completion to a great evening out!
Fabulous yet again. Roy's SF never fails to exceed our expectations. We had a fabulous dinner and even better reception from the manager to our attentive server Jamie and Rico the killer sushi chef. Thank you once again Roy's! We'll be back soon!
Food is awesome and the wait staff is really friendly. I have taken friends there on 2 occasions for dinner within the last month and all of them really enjoyed the food, wine, cocktails, and of course, the chocolate soufflé dessert! Love this restaurant!
I started with a Stoli martini and was pleased to find a real vodka kick in a generous portion. I had the Waimanolo style (green) salad with herbal dressing; the entree was Island Fish with a glass of Duckhorn sauvignon blanc; and dessert was Baked Alaska and a snifter of Martell VS. Service by Brian was brisk but attentive and friendly. Presentations of the courses was artistic and brought to table by separate servers who appeared to take pride in what they carried. This all was pricey, but well worth a special outing Downtown.
Seasonal menu is always exceptional. Roy's adds a creative touch to courses, drinks and exceptional presentation. The staff is the best in the Bay Area. Very thoughtful and efficient.
We tried Roy's for our Anniversary and ended up giggling like newlyweds. It was a true dining experience, and having gone out to so many date night "dinners" with my husband over the years, I had forgotten what it felt like to be wooed by a fine dining experience. Though the server never hovered, he noticed I was a lefty and presented my coffee with the spoon on the left. Get the picture? We mentioned our anniversary once to our hostess, and it was observed in small ways throughout the evening. Cuisine? Difficult to say enough. Sushi melts in the mouth, Mahi Mahi (thick cut) is extremely fresh, mild over sliced new potatoes and asparagus that yield oh so beautifully to the fork.
I really liked the food a lot. My husband was much less enthusiastic. I had scallops with fried bananas. And a delicious macadamia tart for dessert. It was pretty noisy and the service was not good. If I'd been really famished it would have annoyed me. The company was such that it did not bother me so much but others in my party were displeased. I would go there again if I could talk my husband into it.
The food was amazing and the etire staff was helpful. They make you feel welcome. But back to the food, the creative dishes they offer were all cooked to near perfection and absolutely delicious.
What an awesome meal and such a deal! We had the prix fixe special at $35 for three courses. The shrimp Lumpia was very tasty with nicely plump, sweet prawns. This fried dish was not greasy and perfectly crunchy shell was a nice compliment to the juicy whole prawn filling. The nicoise salad had a nice asian twist on the classic. I loved the sirloin...perfectly cooked and lovely au jus sauce. The waiter was fantastic as he waited for us to linger over our appetizers before sending the main dish. Best part about the deal...No Corkage Fee. Loved it!
We had the Summer Prix Fixe Menu & I highly recommend this. You can't go wrong with any of their food. Our selection: Appetizers: Crispy Shrimp Lumpia & "Char Siu" Pork Ribs Entree: Grilled Salmon & Roasted Beets & Yama’s Kobe Beef Meatloaf Dessert:Keris Creamsicle Orange Yuzu Cake & Roy’s Melting Hot Chocolate Soufflé Drinks: Mango Mojitos....it was all yummy!!!
The service was amazing!! They greeted my husband and I as though we were old friends. We definitely are going back soon & telling all our family and friends about Roy's!
Food was excellent; we had a lot of first timers and the menu was explained really well.
I had my birthday dinner there at 8 p.m. on a Wednesday with five friends. Although the food was fine as expected, the service was very erratic. Our waiter/server was friendly and attentive at the very beginning, but as dinner progressed the level of service quickly eroded. The most annoying incident was when our check was brought and we were charged for four appetizers when we only ordered two. Also, the check included a cocktail which should've been removed (without us having to mention it) because when it was served, my friend picked up the glass and the bottom fell out, spilling the ENTIRE cocktail on her lap and the table.
Dining experience was great. Lighting sets the mood, decor is top-noch, and the food puts the exclamation mark on the whole evening. This is a good restaurant....!
Overall...very good. Staff...friendly, attentive, handled problem efficiently. Portions: generous.
Roys is a good place for friends and family gathering. Environment is friendly, sevice is good, food is great, and the price is reasonable. This is the second time I tried this restaurant and I really like it. I will definitely bring more friends to try.
We all loved the food. We brought our own wine and really appreciated no corkage fee. Great idea in these tough economic times to make Roy's more affordable. The price fix menu is good too.
Not all items are created equal. Ask about preparation and accompanyments first.
But the mahi-mahi is a always a winner.
Our party was running about 10 minutes late but we were seated within minutes of our arrival. We ordered from the prix fixe menu - the Grilled Salmon & Roasted Beets was melt-in-your-mouth delicious and the entrée portions were generous. But I must say the Melting Hot Chocolate Souffle was TO DIE FOR! Our waitress was warm and attentive to all of us including our child. I would definitely go back for more.
I have dined at this restaurant three times. I liked the atmosphere and the decor. The first time I really liked what I had ordered that I felt like going back again but I noticed that the food was not what I had experienced the first time and I was a little bit disappointed. I went back again just to see if my dining experience would be different but I did not really liked the dinner that I had ordered. The scallops and the fried banana taste good but I did not like the texture of the purple rice.
It started out being the best fish entre I had ever had, but upon reflection it was actually the best meal I can ever remember having. Truly amazing. Honestly I wasn't really thrilled about going here (my wife set it up) because I just pictured 'shee-shee' dining with small portions, arrogant/pretentious wait staff etc. But the atmosphere was great, the staff was helpful and friendly....and the FOOD was amazing. I had the mushroom crusted halibut. On the way out I wanted to go over to the head chef and bow down to him but the wife wasn't keen on me being a goofball. We're already planning our return for our anniversary in September.
It was our anniversary, and Roy's went above & beyond to make it special for us. There was a personalized congratulatory insert in the menu, which included a poem & romantic quotes from famous writers. And even though we ordered the chocolate fondue for dessert, they brought out an additional special dessert plate with a lit candle & "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate. A little while later, the floor manager came by to congratulate us and I happened to mention it was our 38th wedding anniversary. Well, he came back a few minutes later with yet another special dessert plate except this time it read "Happy 38th Anniversary" in chocolate!! Then our waitress brought us gift champagne glasses! Thanks to Roy's for a great day!
We enjoy Roy's very much every time we go to the islands, and we have eaten at Roy's in Las Vegas and Scottsdale and enjoyed the food there as well. The fish, especially, the Hawaian fish, was not prepared with the finesse we have enjoyed at other Roy's and was, therefore, not worth the price.
Excellent food, good service, and given San Francisco prices, a bargain as well.
Really enjoyed the semi-Hawaiian athmosphere - very attentive service and nice food. Wish it'd be a little bit more quiet, but aside from that, no reason not to come back.
i had the shellfish combo of scallops and tiger shrimp with mascarpone risotto. The scallops and shrimp were cooked perfectly; the risotto is the best I've ever had and we werent even in an Italian restaurant. One guest had the butterfish which was a generous serving. Another guest had sashimi which he compliment its freshness.
Roy's was great overall. Me and my husband made reservations for our 2 Year Wedding Anniversary. When I got my menu I noticed a printed out sheet congratulating us on our anniversary, which was really cool. We also got a free dessert (passion fruit cake, and chocolate fudge). We weren't expecting anything at all - but just that little thing made it that much more special.
The staff members were friendly and always checked up on us and the food was delicious. We look forward to coming here again.
Great food & service. Definitely a special occasion destination.
good food, lousey service. Excessively long delays between courses.
We enjoyed entertaining our out of town family members who are definitely big foodies at Roy's. Thanks for the very attentive service and the very good food.
Waitstaff was good but our appetizer was initially delivered to another table and our entree was slow in arriving.
We wanted something special for my BD, so we picked Roy's due to past experiences.
The service was inattentive and slow; the waitress was not coherrent/always mumbeling and left us guessing what she as talking about; the food arrived semi warm and appeared to have been sitting waiting for a server to deliver it to the table.
We have been going to Roy's for many years in different cities and always left with the desire to come back.
Not this time, we will not be going back to Roy's in S.F. again.
It was very difficult to decide what to order because everything on the menu sounded phenomenal. I will need about 10 more visits to try everything I would like to on the menu. The choices we did make were out of this world. The service was great and the drinks delicious as well!
You must try the lobster pot-stickers. The butterfish is amazing!!!! The Mahi Mahi was OK, a little over cooked. Portions are a little small - order two appetizers. Prices a little high. The staff is very attentive. The wine list very good, no beers on tap - just bottles.
Mine was a perfect "birthday" dinner. I will return to Roy's primarily to order something other than the perfect filet mignon I enjoyed there. You see, it was a special birthday and I was dead-set on a steak. And I wasn't disappointed. But the menu has so many more interesting dishes that appealed to me.
The service was excellent and we had an exscellent window seat.
I cannot think of anything negative to say. It was a perfect evening.
We had a wonderful dining experience at Roy's San Francisco. It was every bit as good as The Roy's we have dined at in the Hawaii locations. Great service and food!
Food was tasty and very well presented. Sushis are excellent. Friendly staff. Pleasant atmosphere.
I love this restaurant and would suggest it to anyone who enjoys fish with a pacific flair. I would not order the calamari again as it was dry and a little overcooked. The rest of the meal was flavorfull and beautifully presented. Had a great time and look forward to our next visit.
Everything was excellent - the shrimp lumpia, the grilled salmon with spinach, and most especially, the hot melting chocolate souffle and the service and the ambience. It was a wonderful experience.
Food was very good, and I liked how there weren't too many items on the menu to choose from. Nice decor and good wine list. Service was very attentive, but not bothersome. Servers paid attention to detail by presenting a "happy anniversary" dessert and re-folding our napkins if we left for the restroom. Definitely would recommend!
