Doesn’t get any better than Roy’s SF. Walking distance from downtown and transportation.
Aloha Hour at the bar with two large TV screens and excellent service from friendly bartenders.
Appetizers are as good as the meals. No doubt the Chefs here do everything right. Seafood and meat selections are fantastic. Portions are generous, you don’t leave hungry.

Service was very slow for us. Many tables around us were getting their food after being seated after us. Wanted this to be a special occasion. Little or no communication from the server. Food was just ok wasn’t outstanding for the price paid.

Roy’s - San Francisco was the culmination of our joint New Years 2018 Trip. Everything about this restaurant was five star, from the front end staff, waitstaff and food. It would be a perfect choice for anyone looking to have an elegant meal at a great price.

The miso soup was wonderfully flavorful. The poke with crisp lotus as attractively served and delicious. The Caesar salad was a very generous size, but the lettuce was served in large "spears" requiring a knife to cut into edible pieces. The chicken was very tender, but curiously bland. Our server was very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable.

Nice place, a bit loud. Disappointed in the very tough calamari. Also a bit disappointed in the lobster, it was a bit mealy and a definitely overlooked. My steak was perfect, pineapple upside down dessert was average. Loved the mai tais. 2 people $300 including tip.

Roy’s is one of my favorites. It can be pricey so I save it for special occasions. I rated this visit 4 stars instead of 5 for a couple of reasons: Service has always been top notch but on this visit I felt rushed. Had not finished my first course when out came the 2nd course. This was a Tuesday night and not very crowded so why the rush? Secondly, the food is always great but they dropped the ball on the first course of Vietnamese Lobster Spring Rolls. The wrapper was hard / stale. Very unappetizing.

We had a 7:30pm seating. By the time the waitress took our order they were out of half the items, including the main dish that was advertised. Employees seemed stressed, starting with the bartender, who informed us it'd be 20 minutes before we could get our glass of wine, as we waited for our table. Overall, it was a disappointment and we all left with a melancholy feeling. Unfortunate for our holiday dinner.

We went on Christmas day. We arrived there on time but was not seated for at least 30 minutes. It was terribly crowded and it was very clear they did not have enough help. Our server didn't take our order or greet us for at least another 30 minutes. He was very pleasant and very attentive. Our food came out pretty fast but our dessert didn't come out for a long time. Half of our group got their order but the other half had to wait too long. We almost canceled our order. There were two other tables that were complaining so much that it was disturbing. It was clear the manager did not have enough staff to accomodate such a busy evening. Not once did we see the manager come out to help or talk to the guests. Overall, we were disappointed with our dinner and will not be returning in the near future.

We don’t live in the Bay Area. I chose Roy’s Restaurant from OpenTable for our Christmas dinner. Fortunately, one person in our party had been to Roy’s before and confirmed it was a good choice.

I didn’t know anything about the Prefixe menu before we arrived. We were happy with the selections. All of us in our party of six loved our waitress, table, the overall service and our food, from appetizer to entree, to dessert and wine.

With the exception that I ordered the filet mignon, medium. Unfortunately, I received the end piece of meat. It didn’t look like the usual cut of meat for a filet. It was tough on the outside, fatty, stringy, chewy - I should’ve sent it back. But, it would have upset my family because they decided to treat us. So I toughed it out.

Everything else about our experience was wonderful. I would highly recommend Roy’s Restaurant!

Celebrating a birthday. The hostess and food server wished me a Happy Birthday and they even had a place card with Birthday wishes and a great complimentary dessert. Service was excellent but dinner was served lukewarm. The Aloha Happy Hour was fantastic for food and drinks.

Great restaurant and location. Parking is always a challenge in San Francisco but there's a nearby garage and street parking.

Service was lacking yesterday at Roy's. We waited for about 20 - 25 minutes for the waiter to appear so that we could order, at which point we went and got the manager to track him down. Only two of three iced teas were refilled when the server abruptly left, ignoring the empty third one. We had track him down later, too, to ask him to bring back that iced tea pitcher. But, it was probably an off day, since we've had good service there before.

We have been at Roy’s, both in Hawaii and San Francisco multiple times and must say that this feel short of expectations on the food. A salad which was listed as “romaine lettuce” came as mixed greens and when we asked our waiter he hadn’t realized it. When we asked to get romaine only he came back saying that the chef had opted for a mixed green option - we should either have been informed ahead of time or the menu shoud reflect it. Crispy lobster dumplings felt they had been reheated, perhaps because our reservation was for 9:30pm. Chocolate soufflé was excellent.

It was a late lunch - 2:00 PM- the food came cold.
But the stand out was a $22 shrimp/green salad. It contained 4 small boiled shrimps and greens - greens so shredded and wilted that I could not tell what they were - and no dressing.
Repeat no dressing!!! . I did not see any point in asking....
Never again.

We have been to Roy's original in the islands so wanted to try SF location. Rather disappointing.
We had bought a voucher for two entrees with shared appetizer, shared salad and shared dessert. The appetizer was wonderful, the salad was mediocre, the entrees were nothing special. I had the salmon and expected wild salmon - not farm raised Atlantic.
My husband had the macadamia crusted fish that was good but not outstanding. We were looking forward to a memorable experience but the only dishes that were memorable were the appetizer and the dessert. I think the recent tech boom allows them the freedom to charge whatever they want as they get many young people who aren't yet foodies. The other thing we were new to was the tax on top of the bill for employee health care... why pick on restaurants? There are so many great restaurants in the SF Bay Area, we will not be returning to this Roy's or the City anytime soon.

I've been attending Roy's restraurants since the 1990's at multiple occasions. It's been a long-time favorite, including a recently wonderful experience at the one in Carmel. However, this particular evening in SF was the worst service I've ever had -- by far. Waiter and support staff had no clue whatsoever.
