Our only gripe was our server. I believe we were the last party he served and he just seemed to have checked out. He didn’t read us the specials, we wouldn’t see him for extended periods of time, and when he would come, he would act rushed and annoyed.
Whatever he had going on, it wasn’t our fault and it was a disappointment to have experienced this at such a nice restaurant as Roy’s. Other than that, everything was wonderful. Unfortunately your waiter is the face of the restaurant and the person with whom you will have the most interaction so that aspect will dictate most the dining experience.
The Global Tasting menu was exquisite! The dessert was out of this world. I’ll come back just for this. Thank you!
As always the food was great. However, our server was not attentive at all.
I was put near the tv when I asked to sit in the quieter part of the restaurant
The $45 Thanksgiving turkey dinner was a much smaller portion than I expected for the price but I have never been to the restaurant before. It didn't seem like a fine dining restaurant as people were packed in there seated fairly close to each other. It was OK overall but I wonder if it had to do with the sheer volume of customers for Thanksgiving dinner.
I think they have too many guests at one time and they don’t have time to really serve the guests no matter is on the food preparation areas or the waiters or waitress’ service areas. My steak was terribly cooked.
We decided to break tradition and go out and treat ourselves with a Thanksgiving dinner. No fuss. No stress. Although it was difficult to get a reservation for a large group for 6 pm dinner two weeks before Thanksgiving, we decided to try our luck with a reservation for a table for two, 2 days before Thanksgiving. We got a spot for 6 pm!!!
The Thanksgiving dinner menu was simple yet exciting. It was the best Thanksgiving dinner we’ve ever had! The dinner portion was the right size. A bowl of delightful lobster bisque with the right amount of coconut milk and big chunks of lobster meat. The pan roasted teriyaki turkey was phenomenal!! 2 slices of juicy and flavorful turkey meat with the right amount of stuffing, haricot verts, roasted carrots and buttery mashed potatoes. The stuffing had a surprise crunch to it! I truly enjoyed that nutty surprise! The taste was flavorful but not too rich. I am a very picky eater and never cared for stuffing before but tonight was different.
When our server came to check on us and asked how was everything .. I told him it was the best Thanksgiving dinner ever! But... there’s a small part missing .. King Hawaiian rolls! Our server responded I could get you that.. what?!!!!! He really did come back with 2 rolls of Hawaii’s rolls. ❤️
Desserts were scrumptious. The portions were small but rich and satisfying in all levels! I had the maple pumpkin tart with vanilla bean ice cream and my husband had the chocolate tort with raspberries. Divine!!!!
We are thankful for Roy’s for being our go to restaurant for special occasions and our future Thanksgiving tradition.
It was thanksgiving so service was not bad as it was a very busy night. Food was excellent.
Thanksgiving dinner was great. Everyone enjoyed themselves and it really seemed like the kitchen and the servers were very in sync. Perfect! Good job to everyone.
It has been a few years since we had reserved a table at the San Francisco restaurant. We have eaten many times at the restaurants on Maui, the Big Island, Kauai, and Oahu and were expecting the same wonderful meal for Thanksgiving.
We were happy that we got seated immediately but waited a long time before we were recognized by a server. The restaurant was hectic even at 4:00 pm. Our table service was slow and our server forgot what we ordered. Surprisingly, we mostly chose the pre fixe Thanksgiving meal. We saw the picture online and it looked delicious. The meal presentation was excellent even though we all agreed that the turkey tasted like a ham/turkey roll instead of real turkey meat. For some reason, we were surprised this meal did not come with some cranberry sauce. We ordered our drinks. My husband ordered a mai tai but he got something he didn’t recognize. He says he judges a restaurant by the “taste” of their mai tais. For being your signature drink, he said it had little to no alcohol or even fruit juice! He could not describe what he had. We didn’t complain but we felt the meal was not as “special” at this location. We walked away dissatisfied.
Thanksgiving. Turkey was like canned meat. We’ve been to 3 other Roy’s in AZ and Hawaii. They all were nicely decorated and the ambience was lovely. This Roy’s is in an old, depressing building with little on the walls. We were in a side banquets room loaded with tables. Really disappointing atmosphere-wise. New York Steak was good- but terribly over-priced. Turkey was like canned meat with odd marinade taste. Desserts were fine, but tiny, as were sides. Best thing was Thai lobster bisque. At this price point, a bread basket would have been nice. We won’t be back to this Roy’s. We were not impressed.
Consistently fantastic food. Great and warm service. Convenient and terrific for any occasion. Who doesn’t love a mai tai!
We thought that the Thanksgiving menu was all inclusive (Starter, desert, and wine), but when we got the check these things were separate charges. It was still good value for the money, but I wish the menu was more transparent. All in all, we enjoyed our Thanksgiving at Roy’s.
Thanksgiving meal was excellent !
I understand I'm paying SF dollars but I expected a little more for my buck, as in WOW my palate. Lunch express was forgettable and regrettable that I should have opted for a regular lunch menu. Maybe next time someone springs me a free lunch I may go that route.
We enjoyed a nice family dinner in the city. Roys never disappoints. The food and service was spot on. We will return again soon!
Roy's Trio was devine, as was the Shellfish Sampler. Was there for a friend's anniversary. Nice plate notation for the Pineapple Upside Down Cake.
Great place with good service! Nice selection of sake.
It was overall a good experience. Chose it for my birthday lunch with coworkers a couple of years in a row.
Came on a Saturday night , 6pm reservation. Very quiet, not many customers which is fine for wife and I. She ordered chef's special 3 course for $49. She enjoyed it all and I shared in her keylime dessert (wow). I had the wedge salad and it was perfect, and just the right portion size; I have seen others much bigger - too big.
Extremely underwhelmed and disappointed. I ordered the seafood sampler which had one scallop, two shrimp, and a small lobster tail and all of which was overcooked. Our waiter, although very patient, made many mistakes. We will not be returning.
I think the butterfish is good enough on its own to stand without the red sauce on top, but otherwise, it was all wonderful.
Sushi was very disappointing, fish dishes were good but too expensive considering the price.
I like to go to Roys , very good food and service. They can accommodate my request and very tasty food. Will go back for sure.
The pulled pork sandwich was surprisingly bland. Good appetizers and service, but it was a client lunch and sending back the sandwich would have been awkward. Not up to your usual standards I’m afraid.
Filet mignon, lobsters, lobster bisque, key lime and pineapple desserts all fantastic as usual.
Service great but I didn’t care for the table. Troops much traffic behind me.
Mahalo Monday , such good food and family!
Service was excellent, however the sushi left much to be desired. They read great on menu and look great. But miss the mark on any real flavor. So left with an overall meh of the place. No desire to return, but happy to check it off the list and happy it was open late on a Sunday.
Food and service were outstanding! I enjoyed the quiet, tasteful decor. Lovely dinner! Thanks!
Overall the restaurant is beautiful, we had read reviews before choosing Roy’s. We were seated quickly and our server was attentive. Once we ordered, everything seemed to slow down. Once the food arrived, the presentation was nice but the flavor fell flat. The shrimp and fish was overcooked, which seemed surprising because it wasn’t busy.
As always, food tasted good. Presentation was lacking. We ordered the short ribs and butter fish combo. The photo on the email I received looked appetizing, the entrees were presented on a small round plate, cozy. What we got was a large square plate and the entrees were set on each corner. Made the meal look less than what it was.
The server took awhile to get to us after we were seated. We only saw him twice -when he took our order and when gave us the bill. He didn’t check on us during our meal. Roy’s is one of my favorite places to dine and have had memorable family experiences there. But lately, I feel that the service has not been very good.
Generally good place. Great fish. On the expensive side but if you have their coupons (they always send out) then price is reasonable
Always a great consistent meal at Roy's. Very few surprises - you always know what to expect. Quality, great tasting food at a very reasonable price in a nice comfortable location.
We went during lunch, and they have a special that's light but delicious! It's the perfect size for a quick work lunch. We arrived and were seated immediately, waited on immediately, and our food came out promptly. I ordered the short ribs, and they are SO TENDER. The soup is light and flavorful, and the salad is fresh and tasty. It's always a delicious treat to go to Roy's. At some point I'll attempt to try something else, but for now, I can definitely recommend the short ribs lunch special.
The ambiance was above average and our server was attentive and engaged. Food was definitely on the superior side. Very good dining experience overall 😀
Another nice dining experience. We enjoyed the 3-course Philippine tasting menu and some of our favorite classics.
I really enjoyed my meal while sitting at the chef's table. The crispy salmon was very good. The experience was excellent.
We have been going for many years and we feel the food quality is not as good
Thank you very much for making our anniversary a special experience. This was my second visit; once for lunch and this one for dinner. Your establishment continues to shine with serving delectable dishes. You do not disappoint.
Exceptional service! The food was thoughtfully plated and delicious 😋 management was beyond Attentive and accommodating. A once in a lifetime type experience made accessible. Thanks you Fredrick!!!!!!!!!!
