Fantastic food and surplus on service. My children enjoyed their kids meal and we all overstuffed ourselves. Will definitely revisit.

We love their signature miso-flavored Butterfish dish. They were, however, quite salty to our liking.
Their chocolate soufflé is the ultimate dessert and we were completely satisfied with how that turned out!

The food was fantastic! Loved the lobster roll, mixed seafood platter and crab fried rice! Generous portions and too full for dessert! Wait staff attentive and friendly!

Previously we have been to Roy's in Southern CA and in Hawaii. With so many great places to go in SF I would probably not be going here again. The food was excellent, but a bit overpriced (even considering SF prices). We had the canoe platter (a bit disappointed it didn't come in an actual canoe), my wife had the tuna poke, and I had the tuna with spicy soy-mustard sauce. The dishes were quite tasty, but a bit small, our friends had the mahi and the swordfish and our kids the pasta (which was fairly large and not as plain as we thought it would be) - we also all split an order of the crab fired rice which was excellent. Our server was a bit spacey and forgot several items. That combination of value and service is what would lead us to look for something different next time in the city.

I’ve been to several Roy’s Restaurants in LA and Hawaii. Best was in Oahu. The SF location was mediocre at best. The food was decent, but overpriced. Overall disappointing. I won’t return.

I went to lunch with a colleague a few days ago and Roy's delivered what I expected: high quality food, good service, and an upscale environment. If you want to take someone to a nice lunch and they like fish, you'll be hard pressed to find a better spot.

I love the decor/ambiance and the food is generally very good -- but I wouldn't order the Maui Wowie salad again. Mushy and way too many capers. The problems for me this time were 1) the waiter was painfully fake formal, and 2) it was outrageously expensive. It was a friend's birthday, so fine, but the bill was $300 for 3 of us, and we just had one glass of wine each. I'd recommend it for a splurge, but you can get comparable seafood for half the price.

I would have rated this restaurant higher only if their menu included more vegetarian/vegan options. There were hardly 3-5 items for vegetarians. Otherwise it is a great place with excellent ambience.

"Restaurant was welcoming and we were immediately seated. Food was well-presented and delicious. Three guests in our party each had the Chef's prefix meal and enjoyed the sushi starter, salmon entree and the dessert offerings. The Chef's Trio provided an excellent tasting of three styles of prepared fresh fish. The vegetables served with each of the meals were fresh and complimented the fish servings. Service was friendly and attentive. Noise was a little loud, as a large party of 12+ was seated just next to us - but the overall ambiance was pleasant. We look forward to visiting again.

We Love Roy"s especially the Canoe and Desserts! We were celebrating my son's 32 Birthday and 16 years before that we celebrated his 16th in the Wikolia. Where we had over the top service my 16 yr old son asked for a Root Beer ...and The waiter replied they did not have Root Beer but would see what he could do.Our waiter walked across the street to the local grocery store and brought him a root beer! We are fans!

The service was very good. The food portions were decent. I was very disappointed by the truffle fries. They were very limp and not very flavorful, I’m sad to say that I have had far better truffle fries in the Napa Valley. Sorry, but I won’t reorder them next time.

Thank you,

Service, ambience, noise level (low) was all outstanding. Food was good but over priced. The portions were nicely sized, and I really enjoyed my lunch the shrimp and citrus salad. Although it could have used more dressing. I would drizzle dressing on the sides of the plates in case customers wanted more, and it would look pretty too.
Overall we had a great lunch and I would recommend Roy's as a nice biz lunch venue.

We reserved this place after a visit to MOIC. It was a nice stroll there and although we arrived 30 minutes earlier than our reservation time, we were seated fairly quickly. I must say the service there was excellent with lots of attention from the wait staff and special complimentary snacks were given to the children. However , we felt the food was over priced and not as good as the restaurant should be. I ordered the tasting menu . I had sashimi , which was quite tasteless and pork chop, which as thick and dry. The desert was pineapple upside down cake , and it was the best course of all . Others in our group of seven had short rib which I was told was dry. Another adult ordered filet mignon , he said it was just “ok”. Overall, we liked the ambiance and the service , just not the food .

My wife and I came here for Valentine's Day dinner (02/14/2019) and it was excellent! We had the Lobster Potstickers, Szechuan Pork Ribs, Lobster Bisque, Miso Soup, Misoyaki Butterfish, Chilean Sea Bass, Kiffer Lime Tart, and Roy's Red Velvet Cake. Everything was delicious and we were completely satisfied! The waitress was nice and friendly. The ambiance was good and it was not too noisy. This was our first visit to a Roy's and it was worth the money. Thank you! ;)

Took my wife here for Valentine’s Day. Hadn’t been in years and thought it a solid compromise between steaks (my preference) and sushi (hers).

While I expect overpriced food and packed restaurants for V-Day, the price was only slightly higher than usual and we had early reservations so not crowded, yet, when we were seated. This didn’t help.

A 4-course, prix fixe meal took 2 hours. We waited nearly 20 minutes between appetizers and soup, which arrived tepid. Didn’t want to complain, but lukewarm lobster bisque doesn’t cut it. Another 30 minutes passed and the entrees arrived likewise lukewarm. This time we sent it back. While a new order was delivered quickly, it was also slightly undercooked. We ate these, had dessert and asked for the bill. Not a single cent off the bill despite 2 of 4 courses being sub par.

Won’t be coming here again.

Went to Roy's for Valenetine's Day dinner and had to order from their prix fixe menu. Spiced pork ribs and tuna roll were excellent. Filet Mignon was undercooked (rare vs medium) and it took awhile to get anyone's attention to point that out. Desserts (red velvet cake and chocolate torte) did not taste freshly made. Lessons learned.

I took a friend to dinner since they were in San Francisco for an interview. I booked a reservation for 5:30pm. The restaurant wasn’t busy when we got there around 5:20pm. We were promptly seat in the bar area which had open seating and very loud. My first question to Managment is why would you seat your customers who take the time to make a reservation in an open seating area with bartenders who have to act as your servers. Well, you can guess that it went downhill from there. We both ordered iced tea and had emptied our iced teas and sat there for over 20 minutes without getting a refill. The problem with having a bartender acting as a waiter and a bartender. It was almost a half hour before our order was taken. I had order a filet that had more gristle than a cheap steak at Sizzler plus “wait for it” and I had to use a butter knife to cut it because once again our waiter was the bartender who was off making drinks. Needless to say, we will not be back to a place that doesn’t care for their customers who take the time to make a reservation.
