We went to Roy’s for macadamia nut crusted mahi mahi. They were out of it. 🙁we ordered salmon. It was raw in the center. Yuck. 🤢 Our chocolate soufflé was overcooked so badly that there was no liquid what-so-ever inside. It was a light faded chocolate instead of the deep rich dark chocolate that it has always been in the past. It tasted like caked cornstarch. Roy’s used to be amazing. Have dined there for 20 years. Since they sold the quality has decreased. As far as I’m concerned it hit rock bottom last night. I’ll never go back. Our waiter was good and I hope he finds a better house to serve under. Roy’s is done. Yuck.
Gone to many Roy's restaurants throughout the USA and this was my second time at this location.
Didn't realized that after Roy's restaurants USA was sold that the quality was also gone.
Today's dinner had many strikes against it.
Usual beginning appetizers of edaname wasn't offered,, maybe they do not offered it anymore.
Received our ordered yellowtail sashimi appetizers after 70 minutes. Had to ask for Wasabi to complete the order.
My steak dinner was cold and not the quality that i have had at other Roy's restaurants.
Had to ask for a steak knife to cut a medium rare steak.
Because the sun was glaring into the restaurant, one of the staff start pulling the shades down but when it came our table they left. We had to ask our server to do it for us. The staff were not thinking this should of have been common sense Item to do.
When it came to desert it usually was a custom from previous servers to ask if you would like to pre-order for items that take along time to prepare. This was not offered so desert was not ordered today..
Last of all the server knew of the bad service that the restaurant had been giving us.. Could have gone to Dennys restaurant for better food and service.
Worst of all there was no manager present or seen at the restaurant.
Will not be going back again to any Roy's USA, unless I go to Roys in Hawaii.
Butter fish was exceptional. Mahi-mahi was good but a little dry. The Ahi was just splendid. Overall very good food and excellent service. We will return
Ho hum. Had to wait. Did not get area we reserved. Kids brazed short ribs were the burnt end of a pot roast. Been there several times. This was worse. Brought decent bourbon in glass with crushed ice.
The staff’s behaviour was shameful.
They brought my credit card to another table by mistake and asked a stranger for the signature. They didn’t even apologize for that.
Service was extremely slow. Lobster was under cooked. They only had four people working in kitchen. Dinner took over 1 hour to arrive.
They need to put blatant information out about parking!! It was so confusing finding how to get there
It’s not the same Roy’s I remember. Our server was great, however, the ambiance, service, food & quality/attention to detail was not the same as I remember. Our appetizers came out with no side plates. I had to ask when they brought out our second appetizer. My water glass was never refilled. My Maui “Wowee” salad was too salty & over dressed. I made the reservation on OpenTable stating that it was for a “birthday” and it wasn’t acknowledged. It was disappointing.
Not sure if sushi is their forte because from what we ordered i wasn’t impressed. I’ve had better sushi and cheaper places. Not sure if I would personally come back here the tab was about $200 and I don’t really think it was worth that.
The server was good ,Was just basic. The water was nice.
Great way to celebrate our son’s promotion at school.
We visited on Sunday for the 3-course Maine lobster....it was so good. One of us ordered the lobster potstickers and I had the lobster bisque...it was superb. The melding of the curry and other spices was perfect....several nice chucks of lobster too. I tried a couple of the potstickers and they were very tasteful. The lobster tails were nicely seasoned and dessert was almost too much. Suggestion: pineapple upside down cake unless you're a chocoholic. In that case, try the molten lava cake. Bon appetit!
Awesome anniversary dinner
Roys made the night special for our anniversary. Food was delicious and ambiance was great
Our server was very friendly and attentive and made an already enjoyable evening even more enjoyable. The food was nothing short of outstanding.
Very expensive--but not surprising. Food was on spicy side to the point was I ill that night. First time we ever had a very spicy caesar salad. also very spicy was the lobster bisque soup. Couldn't eat and they were kind enough to take it off the bill. The butter fish was even a little spicy but tolerable. Not very good. I have had the same dishes at the Roy's in Rancho Mirage and it was excellent so was surprised that here was not the case.
We had a wonderful table by the window overlooking the yacht harbor and enjoyed the view very much. Would probably recommend this Roy's hoping that someone else might have a better result than we did and it was just an off night.
Our table had 3 kinds of fish and all were outstanding. Rivals Maui.
The food and service were not up to the reputation of Roy's. The macadamia nut crusted mahi mahi was uninspired in flavor and the crust was thin and had mostly fallen off. A serious disappointment.
I used to love Roy’s so was excited to go back. Seemed really overpriced and service wasn’t that great. Disappointed.
I had the butterfish and lobster bisque. Both excellent. Also the jalapeño margarita was great!
Service was horrendously slow for a 1/2 empty restaurant. We ordered the appetizer canoe. Ribs were tender but felt microwaved, potstickers looked like cat food, spring rolls were under fried.
Service was so slow that, Appetizers arrived before the drinks.
The drunken mule drink wasn’t throughly mixed. As much of the flavor was stuck to the bottom of the glass.
It was just so meh. It should be a hard pass for when there are so many other options in this area. We just got tired and tried the hotel restaurant.
Our server was very polite and friendly. She was asked to do to much. She had tables across the room from us abs the room was very big. Probably more of a manager issue setting up a zone like that.
Forgot the desserts and one of the appetizers.
Fish portions were good, taste of chicken tenders was average. Too much batter.
Our server Vanessa was wonderful!!
I'm a fan of Roys for several years and haven't ever been disappointed; this time, I convinced my friends to dine there with me. It was the first time for my two friends. One of them is a picky eater. I can say that we all were very, very happy with your menu and team!
We had friendly service and accommodating staff. The food was delicious, which made the dining experience tantalizing and joyful! We had lobster potstickers, crunchy on one side and creamy on the other side, Chilean Sea Bass with its delicately sweet, flaky meat cooked to perfection, and it had the consistency of sweet scallops! We had Caesar salad with its incredible dressing that we all had to taste, lobster and mignon cooked perfectly too! Our sushi side dish came late, but we welcomed it just fine. At the end of our meal, we were happy about the staff escorting us through the back door to the hotel instead of going around the entire building.
All in all, our dining experience was joyful! Thank you, Waterfront Roy’s team! We love you!
Consistently great food, but a bit pricey. Could’ve used one more heat lamp at our outdoor table...but always a good time. Thanks again
Very good meal with great service and good atmosphere.
We ate outside near the Marriott pool and the Marina. Very noisy. Food was just ok. The mahi mahi tasted warmed up, like it wasn’t cooked fresh. The chocolate cake, the famous ‘exploding,’ or chocolate lava cake, was over baked and dry.
Nice dinner with great service. Drinks were great as well.
Great food & service!
The ambiance is great; the food is well prepared.
We have eaten at many different Roy's Restaurants around the country but this was our worst experience...
We were seated in an indoor booth where the sun was in our eyes for just about the whole evening, even with the awnings drawn.
We had asked for a quiet booth to celebrate my birthday but there was a large party with 5 children two tables away. One child was watching videos on his tablet, the volume blasting. There was a man verbally abusing his wife at another table adjacent to ours, loudly enough to draw attention and using foul language. I am sorry I did not ask the manager to step in to protect the humiliated woman.
The ladies room appeared to not have been attended to all day. The toilet tissue dispenser was empty of rolls and one had been plopped on top of it, to be handled by everyone using the stall. The lighting above the sink was out so it was very dark.
Service was very slow.
We never received lemons for our water, even after asking twice.
Although our food was delivered by a runner who claimed the plates were "extremely HOT", they were room temperature and the food lukewarm.
This was a disappointing evening, especially as I had cancelled a reservation at another restaurant to make this what I thought was going to be a special birthday celebration at Roy's.
I love this place by the Marina. And the view of The Shell is so wonderful.
Had a wonderful evening, great food, service, with one of the best views in San Diego
A little disappointed. Was looking forward to dining at Roy’s while visiting San Diego. Everything started ok but my appetizer came out after everyone else was already done so that was kinda weird. We also asked for water multiple times (usually you do not have to ask at places like this). The food was delicious as always.
Love it! Great place to get together.
Excellent food and service. Great view, but still miss the La Jolla location.
Wonderful experience- servers and management team were great!
Perfect in every way
The appetizers were great but that’s where it ended
