Server Albert is a good person to have for your Restaurant, Food was Great, would like to see a little more selection of Fish on the menu.
The food is overpriced for the quality. I was very excited to try the Lobster Potstickers and the Crispy Wok Fried Tempura Shrimp appetizer, however both were mediocre and nothing to write home about. In fact, the shrimp were so tiny, they actually use salad shrimp for this appetizer which made it a ball of an oily mess with no flavor. I also had the Lobster Bisque, which had a nice flavor but was extremely watery. The people at my table had the Salmon and the Lobster, both stated that it was ok and definitely not worth the money.
The server was pleasant and attentive at the beginning, but seemed to forget about us once she offered the "cook to order" desserts and we declined.
Would I go back.....no. Not for the quality and cost, too many other places to dine in San Diego. The view is nice, oh I almost forgot! We were told that the hotel validates parking, well they don't validate the entire charge. So, at the end of an overprice meal, we had to pay $10 for parking. Great customer service from a large corporation (Marriot).
The main entrees were absolutely delicious. However, the desserts took it to an entirely new level! Compliments to the chefs working their culinary magic!
Food atmosphere. Food was good.
Amazing service with fabulous food, and a wonderful view!
Ordered drinks and noticed one of the silverware roll ups was missing a fork. My husband’s plate was dirty, so he picked up mine and the bottom was covered with some kind of white sauce. When our server returned, we explained that to her that we lost our appetite and left.
Great food, service, and special night out. They do a very nice kids menu, too!
My favorite . We were there for my birthday but it was also Fathers Day with a special menu. (Post-pandemic price creep has gotten here too) Parking is horrible at this location especially with weekend crowds and they were out of Butterfish! Fortunately the Mai Tais and the excellent service made up for it. We would definitely go to this location again.
Came here for Father’s Day dinner. First of all unless your staying in the hotel, it is VERY confusing to find the restaurant. Of all days , valet parking was unavailable. Sheesh. So you needed to park in the hotel self parking and walk to ask where is the restaurant. There are no clear signs of where the restaurant is from the hotel. Upon finally finding the restaurant and getting my Mai Tai , I was calm. The drink was good and food was OK. Very pricey dishes. The bread pudding dessert was to die for. Best I’ve ever had. Service took long and you needed to order all your appetizers, main dishes and dessert at once. Not sure if I would return considering the difficulty to get to this location.
Reception was friendly, server was attentive so the biggest service issue was the male server assistant who brought our water to the table. He never acknowledged us, reaching across us to set the water down. He miscalculated our party of three celebrating a Father’s Day dinner. Upon returning with the third glass, he slammed the glass loudly on the patio table. Having been in hospitality for over three decades, I surveyed the restaurant to see if perhaps this rudeness could be misconceived as a rushed service. Not even a half full restaurant at 6pm, obviously like many restaurants, not fully recovered from the impact of COVID. Asking the server if the scalloped potatoes could be substituted for the mashed on the limited Father’s Day menu, she indicated that the kitchen was unable to make substitutions. Since two of the six menu items were no longer available since the morning according to the server and since the “butterfish” was the house speciality, I would think the kitchen may had tried to be more accommodating since someone miscalculated when ordering for the holiday menu. I mean, we spent $100 per person by the time we shared appetizers, entrees, dessert and drinks. The food was delicious but we found the service to be lacking, mostly due to the uncomfortable feeling of being in the presence of someone who seemed unhappy as in the case of the first busser and the unavailability of the house speciality at a not particularly late reservation for dinner with a limited menu. We’ve had a much better dining experience at the La Jolla location previously. The service was consistently friendly with all staff members with the manager coming by to wish my husband a happy birthday, checking on our dining experience.
Worst meal in decades of going to Roy's. Out of favorite at 4 pm, dessicated substitute, served cold, with 2 slices of sad potato. $200+ meal, just won't ever go back. Used to be so good. Mr. Roy would be speechless.
Beautiful oceanfront marina dining with fabulous food!
Went to Roy's for a Father's Day brunch. The restaurant was out of a number of items on the menu, including the most popular "Butterfish". Had to wait a LONG time for each course to be brought to the table. Not the best experience.
Parking serious problem and poor directions to Roys from connected Marriott!
We come here with a reservation for Father's Day. The place was a zoo. We were seated probably 30" after our reservation. Also we agreed to be seated inside rather than the requested outside so that we could be seated more quickly. The kitchen was very backed up and food took a very long time to get to us. My husband ordered the crab cake Benedict. The poached eggs were completely cooked which ruined the Benedict, but we weren't going to send it back. I had the Chilean Seabass special and that was very good.
I like Roy's but would not come back on a Holiday.
We left after 45 min and only was served water - we ordered wine , never received and watched as others were served. We had a party of 5 and considering this would have been a $500 or more bill we left due to not poor service but zero service
We were having a wonderful dinner but when it came to the payment of the meal, the waitress did not even come back for the check even after an hour wait. My girlfriend and I were not happy with the experience. The food was great but the service just tore the night down, I would eat here again I would just wish for better service.
Fabulous evening thanks to Megan -- great food, great service!
See you again very soon.
Always a most go to when in town. New server believe his name is chris great service.
Server was super nice and a hard worker. However hostess was rude and no smile or even no words like hello,hi, how are you or welcome. She seems that she does not want to be working.
I put ‘bday celebration’ when I booked but they did not have that in note.
Server and food were excellent.
We love coming to Roy’s. Great food, great service. We usually sit in the bar area/outdoor patio. No matter who the server is, we get consistent good service. We will definitely keep coming back!
8 o’clock reservation, checked in early, sat at the bar to wait for table. Checked in 2 more times, told no tables ready (empty inside and 6 tables open outside in view). At 8:45 checked a 4th time, was told “oh, you wanted to sit at a table? We thought you were ok at the bar…”. Food 5 stars, dirty martini 5 stars. Service at bar 5 stars. Front of the house? 0 stars.
Next time we’ll eat at bar. Told by waitress we would have to order all our food at same time per Chef so we ordered only appetizers which took almost an hour to arrive.
Ordered the lobster and d filet medallions. The vegetables were amazing, the rest was SALTY! That gravy was far too salty. The service was amazing, the servers were very good. It was a beautiful spot for a nice dinner.
The staff was as amazing as the food. Our server Maya was charming and pleasant. She was very accommodating to several food allergies and went out of her way to help us make the best choices.
We celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary and everything was perfect. We had originally had asked for outside seating, but it was a bit chilly and were able to be be seated inside with an amazing view of the marina.
We were even given an anniversary dessert on the house. It was great!
Get it together people, the carpet is dirty and the service sucked.
We had our wedding reception at Roy’s in Pasadena, CA - closed now, so happy to find them in San Diego. Had the Fish sampler, ribs, salad, roll and dessert.
Food and drinks were delicious. Even though it is advertised as being in the Marriott, you needed to leave the Marriott grounds which made it difficult to retrieve our car from the Marriott parking garage since we did not have room keys to renter the Marriott grounds.
We are locals and love coming to Roy's. It always feels like we're on vacation with the lovely atmosphere and views. Today's service and food were perfect. Thanks again!
Roy’s never lets me down. One of my favorite restaurants.
Nice friendly staff and great service!
loved going to Roy's. food was amazing and ambiance was amazing.
Terrible service and out of multiple menu items.
We went to Roy’s for macadamia nut crusted mahi mahi. They were out of it. 🙁we ordered salmon. It was raw in the center. Yuck. 🤢 Our chocolate soufflé was overcooked so badly that there was no liquid what-so-ever inside. It was a light faded chocolate instead of the deep rich dark chocolate that it has always been in the past. It tasted like caked cornstarch. Roy’s used to be amazing. Have dined there for 20 years. Since they sold the quality has decreased. As far as I’m concerned it hit rock bottom last night. I’ll never go back. Our waiter was good and I hope he finds a better house to serve under. Roy’s is done. Yuck.
Gone to many Roy's restaurants throughout the USA and this was my second time at this location.
Didn't realized that after Roy's restaurants USA was sold that the quality was also gone.
Today's dinner had many strikes against it.
Usual beginning appetizers of edaname wasn't offered,, maybe they do not offered it anymore.
Received our ordered yellowtail sashimi appetizers after 70 minutes. Had to ask for Wasabi to complete the order.
My steak dinner was cold and not the quality that i have had at other Roy's restaurants.
Had to ask for a steak knife to cut a medium rare steak.
Because the sun was glaring into the restaurant, one of the staff start pulling the shades down but when it came our table they left. We had to ask our server to do it for us. The staff were not thinking this should of have been common sense Item to do.
When it came to desert it usually was a custom from previous servers to ask if you would like to pre-order for items that take along time to prepare. This was not offered so desert was not ordered today..
Last of all the server knew of the bad service that the restaurant had been giving us.. Could have gone to Dennys restaurant for better food and service.
Worst of all there was no manager present or seen at the restaurant.
Will not be going back again to any Roy's USA, unless I go to Roys in Hawaii.
Butter fish was exceptional. Mahi-mahi was good but a little dry. The Ahi was just splendid. Overall very good food and excellent service. We will return
Ho hum. Had to wait. Did not get area we reserved. Kids brazed short ribs were the burnt end of a pot roast. Been there several times. This was worse. Brought decent bourbon in glass with crushed ice.
The staff’s behaviour was shameful.
They brought my credit card to another table by mistake and asked a stranger for the signature. They didn’t even apologize for that.
Service was extremely slow. Lobster was under cooked. They only had four people working in kitchen. Dinner took over 1 hour to arrive.
